I've had one crash in the middle of music [the screen was completely unresponsive, rebooted me back to the main menu], I've had it take a extremely long time [2-3 minutes] to turn off, switching between songs is slow compared to firmware 1.1.4.

Considering a downgrade, I think I'm going to wait until the next firmware is released and applications get a few upgrades..I don't like being a beta tester..which is essentially the stage the 2.0 firmware is in right now.

My ipod just crashed while I was listening to music.

Most individual apps run perfectly and those that do not I'm sure will be updated soon. However, I have trouble quickly moving from app to app - it seems that it takes quite some time for the app's process to fully terminate that the multiple processes cause the firmware to hang and restart.

Apple should release an update that immediately terminates the process upon exit; this should fix the issues that we're experiencing.

I am going to the Apple store tomorrow to get them to downgrade my iPod...or at least give me an idea of what they would do if my iPod completely and permanently bricked because of 2.0

Yes. And I have a more serious problem, after I got 2.0 and it restored, every song I have bought from my touch since the last sync I did DISAPPEARED!!!!! I tried"check for purchases" and nothing happened. And all the songs are in my purchase history!!

I got my iPod last Monday. I never looked into jailbreaking, because I knew 2.0 was coming out. Everything on it came from iTunes cleanly, no hacking.

Today (Saturday the 12th) I upgraded to 2.0 the first thing I noticed is that when I was listening to a playlist and doublecklicked the home button for controls the play/pause didn't work. Now I notice the typing response is so slow as to be useless; before I could type anything on it.

I'm ready to revert to the earlier software, even though I'm afraid I might end up paying twice for the upgrade.

If anyone has suggestions on what's wrong and how to fix it, I'd love to hear -- this is a a 7 day old iPod with no modifications!

Sadly, I can see how that would be possible.

Now it won't connect to the internet...piece of crap...1.1.4 is gonna be on my iPod tomorrow...and I am not gonna upgrade, not even when 3.0 comes out.

yeah, it's lagging on contact. when you purchase, install app, its process is slower. there is something I wonder. sometimes, when I hook up onto itunes, it starts backup process. unlikely previous version, it takes so much time to finish. I don't know why.

Yeah, safari crashed when I tried to go one, not very heavy website. It just stopped loading, and after half minute it just went that bootscreen (silvery apple). After about one minute it started and worked, and that website loaded.. That was odd..
And there is another problem, the clock won't stay in time. Few minutes ago I had configure it again (and yeasterday couple of times). It said that it's 06/16/2007, and clock is about three hours backwards..

yeah, I got some weird menu switching lagg. Last night someone posted 2.0a347 final. Before this I had 2.0a345 from the link before it was released.
I upgraded and it seems to work a little bit better. I also noticed my ipod boot time increased.

stability

I have 2 problems currently:

- In the mail settings, the email account keeps disabling itself, I never get it to "active". As soon as I leave the setting and get back in to check, it is "inactive" again, and

- mail program crashes at start, I can't open it at all.

At first I noticed this, I had downloaded the 2.0 from the Link posted on here (5A347 touch) and installed it. App Store was EXTREMELY sluggish, Accelerometer was stuffy and the Music App required 2 taps to play a song. So, I jumped on iTMS in my country, found 2.0 was FINALLY available (legitimately) and purchased it, waited for the download to complete and restored my iPod to the "Official" release. At first, ALL my Music vanished from it and I had to re-sync, after Re-Syncing, It works beautifully. I think that, like Leopard, 2.0 has its bugs and small issues that Apple will obviously rectify in the coming weeks/months with 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1.0, 2.1.1 etc..

Cheers!

P.S. Just my 2C, plz people don't flame for opinions...:D:D:D
:eek::apple:iPhone!

Volume

Thanks for no replies,LOL. Well I'm glad to say the volume works fine. I have found no extreme annoyances like crashing. Just that safari runs a bit slow but I have every faith that apple will solve this.

What else I have found is: those game apps eat up battery VERY fast. I was playing Enigmo only a bit and suddenly got the message battery is at 20%. It was at 100% when I started. So Enigmy is nothing for on the road but for at home with cable plugged in. :-/

I'm getting random crashes sometimes just even with the simplest things, had 3 today with little use, one right in front of the Sydney apple store when trying to access the app store from their free wifi, never had one before 2.0

Mines crashed out a few times, had problems trying to sync with itunes you name it, its done it !

had enough going back to 1.1.4 never had 1 problem ever.

mrmark if you manage to get back to 1.1.4 can you post to let us know how to do it

I had a total crash while taking a shot of the screen, but it managed to recover itself. 1.4 crashed at-least 3 times a day and by that i mean the apps quitting on me.

2.0 seems better for my 16GB.... so far!

I was using Yelp and then I pressed the home button, I didn't get to the Springboard. I then pressed the button 2x and pressed Music and went there, I then pressed home and I was stuck there. So then I went on to try and cut off my iPod, it only went to sleep and i never got the option to power off. Then I tried to restart it, no luck there. So then I had to put it into restore mode then instead of syncing, then I exited restore mode and it restarted.

Well it seems Steve was right, this is why he didn't want 3rd party apps on the iPhone/iPod touch and recommended web apps. All these crashes and what not, now the iPod just isn't as reliable as it used to be for stability performance. I'm just curious though, all these crashes, are they with just 2.0 firmware upgrade and no apps installed, or are they with apps installed? I haven't upgraded for this reason, to see how it performs and all I want it 2.0 for the color calendar. Guess I'll just hold back a lil longer.

mrmark if you manage to get back to 1.1.4 can you post to let us know how to do it

I managed it :0

This guide is for beta users as well as for future reference.

Step 1 - Downgrading iTunes

To downgrade your iPod, you must get iTunes 7.5, which can be directly downloaded

Here for windows.

or

Here for mac

Once Downloaded, uninstall your current version via control panel, reboot, and then install this iTunes.

*Troubleshooting*
Some people are having a problem where iTunes is saying the iTunes Library.itl was created by a newer iTunes, so here's how to fix:

Go to:
XP:
Code:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Music\iTunes

(i think)
or
VISTA:
Code:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\iTunes

and rename iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library old.itl. This is temporary while you install 7.5. You may delete the one created by 7.5 when u want to go back to 7.7 and restore back your old iTunes Library.itl which will give you all your songs back as well.

Step 2 - Downloading 1.1.4

Obviously, to downgrade to 1.1.4, you need the firmware(ipsw) file. That can be directly downloaded Here.

Step 3 - Putting the iPod into DFU mode manually

In order to downgrade, you must put the iPod into Device Firmware Upgrade mode manually. This is done like so:

1. Plug your iPod into the computer, and open up iTunes (7.5)
2. Hold both the home and power buttons until the device turns off
3. EXACTLY one second after the iPod turns off, release the sleep/wake button, holding the home button still ( the apple logo SHOULD NOT BE ON ).
4. In about 20 seconds, you will see your iPod appear in iTunes, but the screen on your iPod will still be off. You are now in DFU mode.
5. RELEASE the home button as soon as your iPod appears iTunes. If you fail to do so, your iPod will simply go back into recovery mode.

Step 4 - Restoring

Once into DFU mode, its easy. Just do a shift + restore in iTunes and choose 1.1.4.

Other Info ( Important )

Note that you CANNOT use programs like ZiPhone, iPhuc, iLiberty, and others that put your iPod into DFU mode automatically, because they, at least at this moment, are not compatible with 2.0. It will not detect your iPod!!!!

Bam! You're back to 1.1.4. We will be able to come back if wanted/needed. This will suffice for now though.

And if this guide helped, and you got it to work then:...wait for it...
