other than that, its usually ok..

My 2.0 Touch Issues

Here are the problems I am having with 2.0. They seem to similar to many of the other problems others are experiencing:

- Backing up everytime on iTunes (and it takes much longer than it used to). :(

- Freezing up and seeing lots (too much) of the "beach ball" in iTunes when adding the music and video that was deleted on the update. :(

- Safari is "jumpy" not smooth as it once was. It is especially noticeable when turning the iPod horizontal and watching the browser's switch to the landscape mode. It is very choppy. :(

BTW, for reference, it is an iPod Touch, 8 GB, bought in late May. It came with the January Update already installed. It has never been "jailbroken" and the previous installed firmware was 1.1.4.

I agree that most of this should be resolved with another firmware update. I hope it arrives soon.

Functionally, everything else seems to be working properly. :)

they all work fine in jailbreak a lot of the apps on the apple site are the exact same on jailbreak, it sounds more like the firmware was either rushed or not tested, there are problems more than just the apps.

Unexpected reboots

Since the update, my ipod touch reboots unexpectedly and some apps do occasionally crash. I also find the backup on Itunes to be very long and annoying as a result.

While this is annoying, its not completely unexpected since the platform is now open to 3rd party apps.

I hope Apple will officially recognize this and start working on solutions.

Is the problem from the downloadable link 2.0 or from the iTunes update 2.0? Proably same thing but just curious.

I've had one freeze on aurora feint, pressed the home button and went back into it at exactly the same point, everything else is the same as 1.14, lucky me by the sounds of it.:D

I think the big question is. Will be the new update free? I hope so. Because it seems to me that apple is becoming the new microsoft. And no one wants that.

I haven't had a lot of time to test out 2.0 yet. HOWEVER, so far everything has worked perfectly. Remote application I think is the most genious thing I have ever heard of.

Now I have a 16GB touch that I bought only last month. It came with the January update on it, and I didn't Jailbreak it. Also, I got the official 2.0 iTunes upgrade.

SO FAR. I have had no problems. It plays music just fine in my car, wifi works fine, and my mail pulled just fine. the sync and backup did take a while, but I have 12 Gb of music on there, so I figured it would take a while. So overall, everything is going just fine. I will report any issues that do arise though. :D

8GB Touch - No problems whatsoever.

Downloaded and played Tetris for awhile over the weekend and today. Safari is fluid. CNN.com has a new (maybe it isn't) mobile site. Volume works fine. Never jailbroken.

mrmark cheer for the down grade info but i thought i’d let you know the link below doesn’t work

Obviously, to downgrade to 1.1.4, you need the firmware(ipsw) file. That can be directly downloaded Here.

The main update will cost but the consequent updates don't.

Yup, just as how iPod users weren't forced to pay to go from the horribly-unstable 1.1.3 to the much better 1.1.4.

I still think that 1.1.3 should have been a free update.

1.1.3 was a free update.

The January Software Upgrade was a separate option that you could purchase to add to your iPod Touch, but it could only be installed on an iPod Touch that was running software version 1.1.3 or later.

The JSU was also installed by default on all iPod Touches manufactured after the JSU was announced. (But still had to be purchased separately on older iPod Touches manufactured before the JSU was announced, but not yet sold.)

My mistake, it seems you misinterpreted my phrasing.
What I meant to say was that I think the January Software Upgrade should have been a free update and included with firmware 1.1.3; Apple should not have charged $20 for it. I find it unreasonable for a company to charge $20 for an update 3 months after the product was initially launched.

Personally, I hope for Apple to release a new firmware 2.1 when they refresh their iPod lineup this September that fixes all the bugs in 2.0. I also hope for Apple to include 2.1 on their new iPods after the announcement.

That's a LOT to ask for such a small company ;D

I have 2.0 on my iPod Touch now. Runs smoothly. Only problem I've had is when Remote restarted on me, but other than that, it's great.

I wish Shazam and Midomi could work for the iPod Touch, though. :(

I also have had many problems with my touch since 2.0. I can go on the internet, with a definite wifi connection, it crashes constantly, its battery life now sucks. But it is worth it for the apps, just hope 2.1 fixes some of these problems.

...anyone that paid for the January update should be able to get the 2.0 update for free...:apple:

...with all these issues cropping up with 2.0, and the additional charges they forced with it, I'm glad I waited...now where's the 2.1 release already?...
