Please read what he said a little closer. Non-iTunes media (music and video) is not backed up to iCloud. He had to sync with iTunes to restore that stuff. iTunes Match will soon take care of the music.

iTunes music and apps don't take any space in the backup, because they are just redownloaded from Apple's master copy in the iTunes Store.

4) 5GB is a joke. Box.net offers 50GB free. Apple can afford it.

.

Read the actual terms sof the Box.net deal. No uploading files >100mb, that means no video, large podcasts, etc..not useful for most folks. If you have or need documents, you have DB or iCloud for this. You don't need 50gb worth of docs do you?

I did read it. I believe you misunderstood what CmdrThor said. His point was that a full 32GB iPad is not going to require anywhere near 32GB for an iCloud backup. His example was that 6.6GB of data on his iPad only resulted in a 103MB backup file.

I've been syncing my contacts, mail, and calendar with Google Sync for the last 6 months now so I don't have much use for iCloud. I do have photostream turned, however. My iPhone also backs up on my Mac which is backed up via time machine so no use for iCloud back ups.

I think a lot of people just need time with iCloud to determine how useful it is. Just read this thread. There is still a lot of confusion as to how exactly all the iCloud services work.

Personally the contacts backup in the cloud is terrific. I don't think that can be disputed. Wi-fi Sync is great too. It works for me even when my iPhone is not connected to power.

I don't find iCloud useful/useless really. It has it's purpose however it's probably not for everyone. I think those people who, surprisingly, don't regularly backup their iPhones would find iCloud a godsend. Since I backup daily, it's not really an issue for me however the saving of contacts as well as the photostream is quite handy.
