I remember when I got the iPhone 4, I went out to bars/clubs with my friends in San Francisco and I got a lot of head turns whenever I took out my iPhone

I love having the latest in technology first and other people noticing it and being jelly. I remember when I brought the original iPad to school before anyone else really had it and I couldn't be left alone for a minute without people coming over and wanting to touch it.

Head turns for a phone, wow people are shallow

I remember when the iPhone 4 launched.

I tried to pre-order on Apple.com but the site was crashing. So I made a reservation for pickup. Then I was able to finally place my online order. I then gave my in store reservation to my cousin.

That year, Apple released iPhone shipments 1 day early... so I got my iPhone 4 on Thursday. On Friday I met up with my cousin who was in line all night so I could verify my reservation for him (tied to my Apple ID).

I walked up and was filming the crowd with my new iPhone 4.... testing my newly acquired HD (720p) video recording features.

I wasn't trying to be an attention whore at all... but people DID notice that I had the new iPhone and were approaching me asking to see it.

To make matters worse... I happened to wear a blue t-shirt that day... and the Apple employees were also wearing blue shirts... so I think people thought I worked for Apple.

Here is video from that day:

My goodness, were you having a Seizure, or was the Iphone 4 camera really that shaky?

This was exactly my situation! I ordered from Apple's website and got it a day early. The next day I decided to go to the Apple Store to purchase a bumper. As I was walking out, I decided to test the video recording feature as well as document how insane the line was. I wasn't trying to be a rude prude or anything but I guess I can see how people might perceive that haha.

PS- the people in your video seem friendly and cheery. Check out mine (link posted earleir) and all you see are ragefaces haha

No, because I use my phone for my own personal uses and enjoyment, not as a status symbol.

Comon now, don't act like it doesn't give you any sort of positive emotion when someone says "Wow! Is that the now iPhone?"

PS: Cool! Who knew you could resize the reply text box... lol.

The fact that people look to see if others are looking at their phone is pathetic. A bit loser status to me. I could care less what kind of phone the guy standin in line next to me has. They probably wouldn't even be able to tell anyways. How different does it actually look from iph4 anyways? Looks the exact same to me

So, how much do you care?:D

I'll use it normally, but won't go out of my way to show it off. Honestly, it's not going to compare to the attention I got when I got the original iPhone on launch day. Since I know it won't compare, I'll just use it normally, but wow, that original iPhone attracted lots of people.

The hypocrisy that exists in AppleLand makes me laugh.

One minute people are being bashed for talking about design, the next, people are so vain, they want to show it off.

Good luck this year. The average person won't be able to tell the difference at any distance.

Apple Cool is only in the minds of the self conscious.

Come on dude, this is one person. And if you notice, plenty of people liked the comments pointing out the vanity of his post. Don't extrapolate this as hypocrisy in "AppleLand", whatever that might be.

Oh please. Now y'all know damn well when you go out you're gonna feel pretty damn good about yourselves when you pull out that iPhone 5 in front of people.

I use it strictly for personal enjoyment too, but having people look in your direction is definitely an added bonus.

LOL I wasn't trying to. I was literally just walking from the store in the mall straight to my car outside. The line was just that long where it was on my way to the car. I couldn't really avoid it so to speak.

Geebus. I waited in line for the 4 but I don't remember our line being quite that long... granted I never saw the end but I heard people saying where it about ended. Oh, and they were much quicker on the ball to tell us we couldn't take photos, heh.

Honestly, hard to believe that many people were in line just to buy a phone (Where was that?).

Just so you guys know.....every piece of trash is going to be looking to steal your shiney new phone. I don't want anyone to know I have it...

Seriously. I just saw an article how they have gangs of kids who look for people who aren't paying attention or who have their phone out and go up and grab it (and they are targetting apple phones). Apparently they even have a name for it, "Apple picking". Sometimes they just ask you if they can use your phone to call some one.

I know at the Fred Meyer near me I saw some lady come out and start bitching to her boyfriend (?) and then start running after a guy who was walking away and she started grabbing at him and yelling at him to give her her phone back. He just kept walking and eventually told her to get off of him (he never denied having her phone though). I suspect he grabbed it from her as well since she seemed to know he was the one who took it.

No major plans to show it off. Might go out to Best Buy or the closest Apple store on launch day to buy some screen protectors/a case if the ones I ordered off of eBay don't get here in time.

I do have a birthday party to go to next Saturday, though, and since several of the people there are iPhone owners (of the 4/4S) I'm sure I'll get a few requests to check it out. I'll of course have the screen protector put on by then, but probably will leave the case off to show the 5 in all its glory. :p

I apologize if I ruffled anyones feathers. I am not as vain and materialistic as my post likely portrays. I was trying to express my excitement in a semi humorous way. I'm sure it doesn't come off that way though ....Sorry!

Yeah, and the people in your video have no reason to be rage faced. At least they got to wait inside the mall so if weather was too hot/cold they were comfortable and they got to keep their chairs.

Where I was we were outside which wasn't so bad (luckily, it rains a lot here) and we were not allowed to bring any chairs in (which was annoying).

The only people who can get away with showing off their new phone are rappers.

I didn't get 'super douche' from the OPs original post. I think he just sounds super excited about it. Come on everyone kinda wants to show it off :p

I don't think this phone will get the overwhelming response that the 4 did when it first came out.
