yes, I am

Sure it is a bit buggy but then my last phone (before my 1st gen iphone) was a moto RAZR. I loved that phone but it regularly crashed and looking back was seriously limited compared to iphone.

i have never been happier!

maybe we are just the luck few, i have never had any problems with any of my phones, well a few minor glitches but nothing worth complaining about! woot

:)

I'm mostly happy with mine. It has some annoyances, but they are not enough to outweigh the good things :D

Exactly how I feel about mine. I have to admit though, there have been days that I long for my original iPhone with the 1.4 firmware. That thing was nearly prefect.

oh yeah. I love both the i-phones. I still use the 1st gen and love the way it looks and feels. But every time I use my wife's 3G I just fall in love with it too. They are the most useful tools I've ever had. I never cease to be amazed. To have such computing power in my shirt pocket. Yeah, this family is very happy with the i-phone.

Hello cWeems,

Sorry to be a pain...

-put the sim into the card reader for the card station, click on the Card Statin app on the comp, click "activate"

My AT&T Store told me that they don't have this card reader? They enter the SIM info via web application. It's just a database entry in their system from what I can tell.

was it a corporate store?? the over the air website app sucks it doesnt do anything... it should be under start> programs> Card Station, OR under a folder called Cingular Applications under programs in the start menu... app takes a few mins to load, once up it must be configured, they must put a sim card into the card reader and go to Tools> Configure Reader, then hit test and OK. THEN it should send downloads under the activate option once the sim card is activated on your phone number...

Well I am! I love it!

P.S.:OP's question is regarding the iPhone itself and not the 2.0 firmware... in which case... I could've done with a 1.5 including the app store!<sigh>!

Yup Corporate Store... and NO Card Reader!!

Yes a corporate store. They told me they don't have the card reader??? Wouldn't all the AT&T Corporate stores have these?

Carl D.

:apple: WELL, I am NOT alone!.

my phone has crashed numerous times.... i have had to restart it Many times, but i LOVE my phone. i have my pages nearly filed up (don't see why they limit the pages anyways.. )

How many pages is the limit?

yea they would have to... It's the same device/software they use to transfer contacts from one sim card to another in the computer. Try another store if ones close?

I'm also very happy with mine. Any small problems will be addressed by Apple soon.

Couldn't live without it now

It's the best phone I've ever had, even with the 3G reception issues (though those are far from ideal). AT&T has been responsive, as much as Verizon used to be, and visual voicemail is a quantum leap beyond my old phone experience. (I still wish Verizon had the iPhone however.)

But the transformative aspect of the iPhone for me is the 3rd party apps- they have become indispensable. My life is much more organized now, I'm reading novels on the subway, and playing games ... I'm using it as a PDA without any effort, unlike the old Palm days. It's really just having a very small computer in my pocket all the time. Portability is everything.

I have called four AT&T corporate stores in the Los Angeles area and received the same answer: They can give me another new SIM card, but there's no way to process any downloads to it and they do not have an application called Card Station. Their card readers can only transfer data from one SIM card to another.

One guy who's worked with the store for 5 years went so far as to say that this sounds like SIM card cloning and is illegal. He also said that the activation process and network may be different in Florida than Southern California (where I'm located).

I also called AT&T's main customer service number and the lady I spoke with there had never heard of this either. She did an "over the air" update, but I did that with my old SIM card also an it didn't seem to change anything.

Although I updated to iPhone software to 2.1 after first buying the phone, problems I'm experiencing are that I cannot receive a call while at work in Hollywood 90038 (solid blue 3G coverage for this entire area per AT&T's 3G network coverage map). After saying "Hello" several times, I never hear anything, must hang up and redial. After redialing, the call goes through fine. Calls also drop frequently when walking in this area, and also when I drive to and from home. Calls also drop at home, which is about 2 miles away.

What baffles me is that these calls are all made within metropolitan Los Angeles (even the calls from the other end), where the 3G signal maps show strong coverage. Looks like my options are to get yet another new SIM card from AT&T, which probably won't help any, or go to Apple for a replacement iPhone (word from another of the AT&T Corporate stores here is that Apple will send me back to AT&T, but it's worth a try).

I switched over from Sprint and have 2 days left on my 30-day trial period, so also have the option of ditching AT&T and the iPhone less restock fee, but I do really like the internet features of the iPhone. If I didn't need the ability to make and receive voice calls on it, I'd be pretty happy! :apple:

I'm totally happy with my iPhone even though I do have some complaints and desires for bug fixes/ improvements. But overall it is a terrific smartphone, the best I've ever owned by far. And I consider myself a power user, fully utilizing all the functions including corporate Exchange sync.

I still have my old WinMo Motorola Q in a desk drawer, which I could easily pull out and boot up just long enough to remind myself how much the alternatives suck compared to the iPhone.

The iPhone is not perfect. No current smartphone is. But the iPhone is the best balance of design, features, reliability, and ease of use you will find out there, hands-down.

So I went to the Apple store today in Century City, explained the dropped call/signal problems I've been having, and the Apple Genius said that these complaints have exploded at his store in the last few weeks. Their theory is that too many people are buying iPhones and overloading AT&T's network, so a new iPhone won't help any. They were replacing them, but recently stopped since there were so many complaints with different iPhones.

I checked the signal strength on two of the in-store phones, and was around -65 dB. My phone was within +/- 5 of this, so looks like it's picking up approx. the same signal. At work and at home, I'm getting between -89 and 113dB, though the number can go up and down quite a bit by moving the phone less than a few feet. Have never seen it go past 113, it usually displays NO SERVICE after that point.

I did some more research into the subject, and ironically, this problem seems to be happening more in densely populated areas since the cell phone towers get overloaded with too many calls and data requests. I was also told that AT&T had planned on adding more 3G towers in Los Angeles, but decided not to as a result of the downward spiraling economy. Without more towers to provide additional coverage, rumor is that the problem will continue getting worse.

I'm somewhat convinced that the signal problems I've been experiencing have more to do with AT&T's network rather than the iPhone itself. My iPhone is pretty much perfect in appearance and functionality, other than its ability to make and receive calls.

Looks like AT&T needs to put "more bars in more places." ;)

Was pretty disappointed for the first week and then I whipped out the Pwnage tool and I am getting her to an almost perfect state! I still hate the keyboard, but I can live with it.

Not perfect, but probably the best solution I can find right now. Was thinking of jumping ship to the G1, but I'll wait for them to iron out their growing pains.

Other than one small crack near my vibrate swtich, I feel my 3G is near-perfect. 3G signal around my area has greatly improved and I almost leave it on now all the time. I use the phone so much for all different types of things. I do plan to trade it in bc of the crack eventually, either when I hear something about the plastic being improved or before my warranty is up. But I am reluctant because of what I hear; like getting one worse.
