OK, I had been using my 16P in a couple of aftermarket cases that just had cutouts for the camera control button. It was not a good experience. So, I put it in the Apple clear case that has a CC button, and damn, if that didn't work much, much better. I am still not sure how often I will use some of the controls and effects, but the button functioned pretty well to access them and snap photos. I will keep an open mind. Although I prefer the other silicone case feel to the Apple hard case. Maybe it'll grow on me.... both the case and the CC. Or maybe I'll get an Apple Silicone case.

I felt it was very fiddly at first, but getting used to it now. Took some time, but I think honestly think it's worth it. I feel the haptics (and if possible the resistance of the button being pressed) should be more prominent somehow.

Using it as often as possible seems to be the key, at least for me.

I find myself activating the camera when I put the phone down or pick it up. It’s, to me, hard to use the zoom vs using the zoom on the camera app. I’m really contemplating this upgrade.
🤷🏻‍♂️ I like it and use it regularly. I haven't accidentally pressed it once, but I do use a case with an indent. Makes it easier to prevent accidental presses and to quickly find the camera button with my finger.

Hmm.. I’ve noticed that it’s way easier to use the button when it’s at the bottom and you use your thumb to swipe and stuff. Way more comfortable.

No. As a photog I do not "hate the camera button." It is a step in the right direction. I simply expect Apple to slowly improve their iPhone camera UI (just like Nikon did over many decades); hopefully taking less time than Nikon, Canon, etc. took.

I like it a lot I just wish the placement was a little higher, I shoot all in vertical. I do mostly video so if you have your settings right you can go straight to video with one press and then start recording with another press and you don’t have to hold down the button

Set it so you can double click to launch the camera. Placement of button stinks in both orientations on the 16 PM. A huge miss by Apple IMO.

Apple needs to ditch the hard press for taking a photo. Make it all light press. light press open camera, light press photo or double light press menu. The hard press is just dumb. It's like having a hard press click on a trackpad, not necessary or fast.

I stop using it after a day of fiddling with it. Need a case that blocks it so no water gets in!
It is sealed. With it being a haptic button, there are no open holes for water to get in. My guess is that Apple is testing the button to train users to utilize haptic buttons in ancticipation of a portless phone.

I like it because it's convenient to launch the camera from it and then again to take a photo. I will probably use the on screen controls for focus and other adjustments though. I think some folks are just piling on each other on YouTube with the negativity at this point. The 16s are not a huge upgrade and this is a way to get views anyway so people can feel better about not upgrading when they watch.

It’s a solution in search of a problem. I’m still forcing myself to use it, but it hasn’t really done anything to improve my user experience.

Try setting the light press function of the camera control to Cameras. Zoom is too fiddly (I agree).
I just changed the setting to light press and it is very easy to use. I take photos of my dog and it makes it easier with the button to take the photo quickly before she moves.

You can go into Settings and change it so it takes a double click to activate it. It goes a long way toward stopping those accidental activations.

I don't hate the camera control button, but it's not a "where have you been all my life?" feature to me either.
Then you still have the annoying tap of that button when camera is open

It’s actually grown on me in a few aspects, in the sense of just being able to pick up my phone and quick catch a shot, it might not be a perfect shot but something that captures that moment, also in landscape I enjoy the scrolling through settings, it feels old school but modern at the same time.

Not a fan of it myself, but after getting the Apple Silicone case it has gotten a lot better.

Now that we have the button, can we get rid of the "slide to access the camera" from the lock screen? There is no need for me to have 9,000 ways to access one app.

Out of curiosity, what about the case improved the button for you?

(Don't have a 16-series phone myself yet, but was underwhelmed by the UX of the Camera Control button when I visited my local Apple Store to check them out. So I've been curious how other people have acclimated to it. Or not, as the case may be.)

Ah yes, so your logic is to remove the only useful way to access the camera on an iPhone.

You'd fit right in with Tim Apple.
