Hasn't iPhone been pretty much the same since the first one? What did the first one do?
1) surf the web
2) take pictures
3) text
4) phone calls
5) run apps.

Nope. If I ever get bored I try to start crafting something. It usually lets me start being able to expand into product lines I generally wouldn't need to shop and introduce feedback loops I generally would not be apart of otherwise.

Because when Jobs returned to apple and simplified the product lineup, there was a good reason he killed the PowerBook Duo, PowerBook 2400c, PowerBook 5300, etc etc
Apple’s goal is to sell simplicity, ease of use, and something that just works.

If you're using your iPhone as "just a phone", I'd suggest you might be wasting your money.

Absolutely. There are plenty of $100 Nokia devices floating around if a person wants to use one.

Ah…this goes back to need versus want. Maybe I have wasted my money since 2009 with my first smartphone, considering all I use them for are calls, texts, some email and light web browsing/media streaming (when outside the house). I do use my bank apps on them. But aside from that, these are phones. Maybe they become something more when no longer a primary phone and are put to use doing something else.
But, it's my money to waste on something that I want, versus something that I need. For me, I don't care if that's what others think. Because the need still gets met by what I got from the want.
I've just switched to Android after what feels like 15 odd years of Apple usage. I still have a MacBook but for my phone I wanted a bit more personalisation and just something a little different. Tbh the whole Glass thing does my head in. By comparison my older iPhone 13 Pro software is so clean and crisp with not too much going on.

What you describe sounds a lot like how most normies used a computer before smartphones replaced them. You certainly wouldn't be doing much email, light web browsing, banking or media streaming on something truly "just a phone". 😎

My phone has not replaced my computers. And short of being able to do what my Mac Pro does or a life change, it never will. I use my phone as I described for convenience - and also because I don't take calls on my Mac and my Mac does not leave the house.
I sit in front of this for most of the day, so I assure you that my iPhone has not replaced my Mac.

I think it's safe to say you're not a normie with that setup. 😛 By normie I mean people who used computers to do very basic tasks, not people who do more advanced work with multiple screens and machines.

In this you are right. I've never been a normie in regards to computers, tech, etc. I'm Gen-X and there has been at least one computer in the house since 1980 when I was 10. I purposely went into a industry (graphic design) that is centered around computers.
But, I want an iPhone because I want one. Even if I don't use it like everyone else.

I consider smartphones to be a degraded experience compared to a desktop or laptop. It is the smartphone users who are the normies. Getting excited over an uber simplistic touch UI as on the iPhone is the most normie thing in the universe. It is the white guy wearing shorts showing off his Corvette at the car show of the computing world.

That’s your opinion and your entitled to it.
But using a laptop instead of an iPhone or iPad is becoming increasingly small every year.

I really want to buy an Apple Vision Pro, just waiting for Apple to release it officially in Switzerland. Don’t know what’s the hold up.

that's wild there are still places that don't have it. I've had mine for 2 and a half years now. I wonder if they ever plan to do a full release then.

That's okay. I'm the old guy now at 55. My kids on the other hand are 22 and 18 and they use a laptop as their primary device - despite having iPhones. I guess that's because I handed them laptops first at 5 and 3 years of age instead of a phone.
What was I thinking?! 😉

It is indeed bizarre, I’m hoping the m6 or m7 version will be released here in Switzerland.
There are a lot of extremely wealthy individuals residing here not to mention all the private banks and the clients visiting constantly.

I still have my Mac g4 with Apple Cinema Display and PowerBook ti in storage. Not to mention countless PowerBooks, iBooks, MacBooks, MacBook pros. MacBook airs, iMacs and Mac mini’s I have used over the years. G4s,g5s,intel Mac’s, and even arm Soc.
I’m retired so iPhone and iPad pros are what i use these days. Don’t really need my MacBook Pro anymore.
As I mentioned earrlier I really want an Apple Vision Pro as soon as it’s available in Switzerland.
