Hey, I'm having the same problem with imessages and Facetime. I noticed when I hold the button to turn iMessage on, it crashes back to the home screen. Any suggestions? I have a iPhone 4S

I was having problems receiving imessages last night, but now that the dust has settled everything seems to be working.

I've been trying off and on since about 1 am last night with no change. It'll either be stuck in "wating for activation" or it will just crash back to the home screen.

iOS 7

Hi,

I downloaded it and installed it about 2hrs ago and still won't activate, I'm a registered apple developer. Anyone else having this problem.

Theres a thread on the apples developer fourm called "iOS 7 iMessage and Facetime Problems" I couldn't get in but maybe you could and see of the soultions being discussed there?

I have tried everything I can think of to get this working. Mostly everyone I know uses iMessage, so I really need this to activate... :(

OKAY! so after 12 hours of trying to get my iMessage to work.. i decided to restore.. Here's my steps:

Restored my iPhone (with the beta)..
Got the "Cannot activate message without a UDID".
Put in DFU mode..
Restored back to iOS 6.1.4 (I didn't have a jailbreak so didn't matter much)
Then UPDATED (not restore) back to iOS7 beta 1.

I think a key point is that when you restore back to 6.1.4, DO NOT RESTORE FROM A BACKUP. Set up as a new iPhone, and as soon as you can, update back to iOS 7.

My iMessage and Facetime are both activated now :D
So I did all of this and was able to get iMessage and Facetime working but when I try to restore to my back up to have all of my contacts and previous messages, iMessage went back to not working. Is this supposed to happen?

I'm actually having the opposite problem of many here. My iPhone has been activated all along and worked fine, my Mac and iPad are no longer activated and won't let me send any messages...

You wont be able to back it up. The back up of the old ios wont work on the update of a new beta. If your contacts and photos are stored in icloud once you sign into icloud it will all be on your phone. Then you can get your music and apps from your itunes and videos and all that. But if you had the imessage problem you wont be able to restore from a backup. Restoring to a new phone worked for me and everything is all good, just got to set everything up again.

Strangely this is also the same problem I am having.

My iMessage is working fine from my iPhone, just not from my Mac.

I'm guessing that there is just something in iOS 7 that wont connect across...

Why were people restoring from backup once they updated? I updated to iOS 7 and everything stayed as was. Didn't have to re download my apps or anything and iMessage and FaceTime activated instantly. Fellow developer does have this issue though. But they wiped the phone before installing the beta. Not sure if that is the cause.

Same issue here on 4S, cannot send or receive imessages and it crashes when trying to activate it. I was going to try and restore as new phone like it was mentioned on previous post but then read that after restoring your contacts etc... imessage went back to not working, is this correct?
Also if I restore to 6.1.3 as a new phone can i restore my camera roll? I restored from backup at first so i could get all my apps, photos, contacts, etc... I understood if you restore as new phone all that goes away so u basically start from 0, which is ok except for my camera roll pictures..

Edit: Nevermind...all of a sudden worked by itself...all good now no need to restore for me. It works kind of jumpy but at least it works

Yeah, I did exactly what you did to try and get my old messages and call history back as well as my camera roll, and yeah iMessage/Facetime started not working again.

I gave up on messages and call history, but for contacts, I would try and restore your phone to the backup, turn on Contacts for iCloud so it saves it, then revert it back to the "working" backup. Camera roll, i just saved the pictures and synced them through

I just had to sign in to say THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! My iMessage and Facetime would not activate for nothing after installing the iOS 7 Beta. I've been waiting all day. I followed your instructions to a T and now they are working perfectly! I had no problems at all. I had to get everything back on my phone again but hey, it needed a good cleaning! Thanks for your help!!

Yeah, but how did you get your info back?

And by info, I mean messages and camera roll.

Basically, app data...

iMessage Verizon iPhone 5 (att sim card installed)

Work fine for a day. Then all of a sudden I lost iMessage about 12pm EST today. I tried everything. I'm restoring now to see if that fixes the problem.

Can't have green messages...

Mine activated right away, in fact I didn't even think about having to activate it. Sprint user, if that changes anything.

What iOS 7 is having trouble with for me is displaying all messages (so full conversations) on both my iPhone and laptop, which it had been doing without incident with iOS 6. It's a bit annoying, to say the least.

My friend is having this same problem on her 4s. I am going to setup as a new iphone but restore her stuff back too(in a smoehwhat manual way). I will test this and this tell you guys how it goes. Also, she is on AT&T if that helps.

iMessage FIX

I erased all content and settings from the iPhones settings. Setup the iPhone from a iCloud backup and it seems to have fixed the problem.
