Completely agree..... I was guilty of being on my phone too much..... Checking a notification would lead me into browsing an app, checking mail, browsing another app, and so on..... With the watch, I'm finding that my phone stays in my pocket 90% more, and the battery lasts for days..... I was totally against the watch at first..... Now, I'm not sure I could go without. It's just too convenient. Making/receiving phone calls on it is redundant though. I dig feeling like a spy talking into it and all, but if I have to hold it up I might as well be on the phone itself. I dig being able to watch or view a video sent via text, and after you set up custom replies it just saves so much time. One thing I haven't figured out or wish they would implement is being able to play music directly from the watch.... I mean it has audio.... But it asks for a Bluetooth speaker when attempting to play music stored on it..... I wouldn't mind being able to listen to a song or 2 directly from the watch.....
I love the watch, but the lack of a speaker for audio is my biggest complaint because there is a speaker on the thing that is perfectly fine for podcasts that we can't use. That doesn't make sense. Other than that, I am really happy with the numerous ways I use it.

Like you, I wasn't excited about it at all. Then I got one for Christmas and I changed my mind after using it for a few days.

Oh, I love the music audio option on the watch with bt earphones, w/o the phone. maybe they will add other audio options.

Those who call Jewelry "useless" are largely people who cannot afford or appreciate style.

"Useful" being cited as an important consideration is yet again a value judgment of those who cannot easily afford the purchase.

Highly educated, very wealthy individuals live in a world with much broader choices, far more experiences and a wide array of products goods and services. A world that cannot possibly be understood by those of less means. That's not a judgment or criticism, it's simply sheer facts.

The 2015 Pagani Zonda R is a mind boggling hyper fast ethereal experience.
Lol highly educated has nothing to do with that. In fact, I bet that we wouldn't see people PhDs in engineering, medicine, physics or others buying Rolex watches.

Why? They are useless pieces of garbage. And despite being great at conducting some electrons, gold isn't that good at preventing damage.

However, we might see sons and daughters of rich hard working people buying that crap. Or those that are rich simply because someone was rich many generations ago.

About the Zonda R... It is illegal to drive on all roads around the globe, and most tracks (noise legislation). So yeah. Thanks for proving my point.

Instead of a Rolex, buy a book next time.

Sold mine after 3 months, barely used 80% of the features. Used the money to buy a nice Hamilton that was used in the movie Interstellar. My wife is very happy that my phone doesn't buzz every 10 seconds.

Since the Hamilton has maybe 1% of the features the Apple Watch had it's understandable that you'll be using 100% of its capabilities ;)

My wife is very happy that my phone doesn't buzz every 10 seconds.

That I don't understand. It has been the arrival of my Apple Watch that has made my phone shut up completely. The mute switch is now permanently on red. The only time my phone makes a noise now is when the alarm goes off in the morning, or when I play back media. How did your Apple Watch made the phone buzz?

Why own something you don't use and that annoys your loved ones? I'm a technophile that is slowly evolving into a luddite. I hate that Apple is releasing and removing features every 6 months (Photos, Music, FCP, etc) and the Apple Watch served as a distraction. I made the decision that I didn't use it to its full potential but still wanted to tell the time without pulling a 6" phone from my pocket. It's not that difficult to understand. I just decided the Apple Watch wasn't for me. Instead I got a watch that I think looked much nicer and I don't look like everybody else in San Francisco, where I live, that is constantly staring at their watch and their phone.

BONUS: I don't have to charge my Hamilton every night.

Yeah, I didn't understand the complaint, either.

One of my favorite things about the AW is, I can leave my phone in my wife's purse when we go shopping and still be reachable. Because I'm not holding my phone, I'm not tempted to fiddle with it while she looks at sweaters and dresses. I'm spending better time with my wife because of the AW.

I've only had my AW a few months, so I haven't yet learned my wife's fashion sense… but, dang it, I'm gonna try.

Wow, another great feature of the watch is spouses will carry your phone for you... Now that's a break thru..

I'll bet it's less energy-intensive to send BT audio than to drive a speaker.

Well, maybe. I'm only guessing…
I am not saying your assumption is wrong, but the iPhone burns more battery when using Bluetooth rather than the iPhone speaker. With the watch's tiny amp and speaker, I would think it would be even less of an issue. I think they believe the speaker would be a bad experience for audio, but for podcasts it is perfectly fine. Also, I have enough battery power at the end of the day that any extra battery power it might burn would be worthwhile and make no difference in my uses.

I am especially since half of my apps do not work. I do not understand how an app can work for one person and not the other. And why music on my phone should have any issues with apps working on my watch. I only use for my activity tracking using the rings. Otherwise it's just not doing anything else but telling me the time.

Are you an engineer? Do you have a PhD? I would not bet that much money if I were you. I am an engineer and work with PhD engineers that DO have Rolex watches. What does gold conducting electrons have to do with a Rolex? Swiss watches are mechanical watches that self wind. There are no electrons being conducted. Gold is soft, but do you think people wear gold because it is tough?

Engineers are the most likely to buy mechanical Swiss watches, because we like the intricate detail that goes in the movements. You obviously do not understand that. Why attack a choice by people and call it garbage? No one has called the Apple Watch garbage. For what it is worth, I do not have a Rolex, but I do have Swiss watches.

I have a Ph.D. in engineering and I have a Rolex....and I love it.

No, I'm finishing my masters in mechanical engineering at the best faculty in my country, actually. No, you are not an engineer at all.

My point is that there's no sane reason to have gold on a watch, not even value. It is detrimental and useless to the object. The value in Gold even on the most expensive watches are minimal and the profit margins are what? 90%?

While people can like and enjoy mechanical watches and old watches due to the nature of conservation of force, people also know how to call a spade a spade. They are old useless objects for those that might like them.

The Apple Watch is trying to be more than something useless.

I am not an engineer??? I graduated first in my class in 1993 with a Chemical Engineering degree and have been employed as an engineer for 23 years.

Mechanical watches might be useless to you, but that does not mean they are useless to other people. They keep time and the date as they are designed. That is useful to me since an Apple Watch and iPhone are not permitted in the chemical plant, because they are not intrinsically safe. As to gold, only one of my several watches has any gold on it and it never sees one day in the chemical plant.

I have not once said an Apple Watch is useless, yet you spew your hate at anyone that likes mechanical watches.

I am beginning to not see the point of the watch...it was nice at first..now I'm just not seeing the point much...i think i am just bored..but i was expecting to kind of be constantly entertained with a "smartwatch"

Heck my wife doesn't even wear her watch at all, the emojis and heartbeats between watches was super cool for the first week, but then it was no more. The exercise tracking feature i suppose is its lone purpose for me

Im not hating on the apple watch at all, i just think i got bored with it

Anyone else have the blues? Any cure?

Every relationship goes through the same ups and downs, true love is what will keep you together with your new watch!

The only reason I haven't gotten the watch is because it's too small and the bezels make the smallness even worse. If they can make the watch thinner, with a bigger face and less bezels (or edge to edge screen real estate), I'll be happy to jump on board. I don't like it in its current form, but I'm sure future iterations will be more to my liking. Apple is obsessed with making things thinner ... and in the case of the Apple Watch I support that design aesthetic entirely.

Mechanical watches aren't useless. What an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Smart watches and mechanical watches have their own desired markets and neither are useless. Enjoy your Apple Watch and stop making juvenile judgements, especially against an industry you evidently don't understand.

Different strokes for different folks. People desire different things, and there are different pros and cons to both mechanical/analog watches and smartwatches. It's simply a personal preference.
