Shortly after the iPad2 started shipping, I got a brand-new 64GB 3G iPad1 from AT&T for $579. I have true GPS (very handy having a 10" touch-screen GPS when we rented a motorhome for a cross-country trip), and I have 30 full-length movies in memory for when I travel. An iPad2 at a similar price would have given me neither of these capabilities.

I like the thinner profile of the iPad2 and the camera (particularly the Facetime/Skype camera, the other one I don't see a lot of need for). But for a $300 savings, I'm very pleased with what I have.

I love my first gen iPad. In fact, I traded one of my HP TX2000s (that I got for just $60) for a friend's spare BNIB one. Overall, I'm satisfied with it, but I'm a little let down by the multitasking and productivity offerings of iOS. My webOS tablet does multitasking much better, but doesn't offer anywhere near the amount of apps as the iPad.

I would have said the same but for FaceTime it's so much slicker. I FaceTime my gf a lot cause she is away for school and compared to the iPhone 4 it's so much better on an ipad.

Same here. I love using FaceTime. And it's just amazing on the iPad.

Still using my Ipad 1 everyday. Works great and continues to impress me. I still find it quick and it has essentially replaced my laptop when I travel for work. The only thing it could use is more RAM as I find it gets bogged down if too many apps are open. This is easily fixed by closing unused apps, but still a slight nuisance nonetheless. The Ipad 2 is much better in this regard as it has double the RAM the iPad 1 has and is quicker.

Holding out for Ipad 3 with, hopefully, even more RAM and a higher res screen.

Totally agree :)

Love my Ipad 3G, also just wish it has more ram.

Brought it on to a trip to Chicago, and its my travel guide, bus schedule and maps.

I still love mine... The ipad 2 is great, just wasn't enough for me to upgrade... But I will upgrade when the third one comes out!

I'm very incertain about using ipad or ipad 2.

Here is my story:

Since last year I thought a Tablet would be nice, but I don't need it. So i didn't bought it ... until HP's Firesale began last month. I ordered one for 99€. And over one week I was very happy with it, but the lack of a good pdf-reader was after a while a no go! I sold it and thought about a refurbished iPad 16 GB WiFi for about 279€. And during waiting I got an offering for a brandnew 64 GB WiFi/3G iPad for 399€. I couldn't wait and i bought it. Its now on the way to me, already shipped.

Another story:

I got a MacBook Pro 2010 and I'm still very very happy with it. Its fast enough for me (webdesigner) and there was only one thing which I thought about. Exchanging the harddisk. People out there talked a lot about the fast SSDs and how it will boost my system. In Steve's words, boom!

I bought a 120 GB SSD 320 then from Intel, installed it and I'm also very happy with it. It is fast ... but ... I'm not so euphoric like others. Yes the ssd is quicker than my harddisk, but I didn't feel a "boom".

What has that got to do with my iPad story?

It's maybe similar. The iPad 2 is faster and their latest product. But the iPad isn't bad. Others say its a boom in comparison to ipad one. But I didn't feel that boom either not (its better sure) on my ssd in comparison to the harddisk. People overstates sometimes.

But all in all I'm not sure if it was a mistake buying Sept. 2011 the iPad and not the iPad 2. But I need 3G and the iPad 2 3G is much more expensive. Hmmm...

Thats what I want to do with it:

I don't want to play games, and I will never use garageband. Mostly I'm reading PDF's, books, surfing (mostly). Watching movies, viewing pictures ... I need it also for developing mobile webpages, just for testing.

Still love mine, only gripe are the "for iPad 2 only" apps in the AppStore, which is expected with every Apple product generation that one skips, but come on, the device is only a year + old and it's obsolete in the AppStore already?

Good thread. I still love my iPad I, but I have to admit that as well made as it is it's much heavier than I would like it to be. Otherwise I love it. I would only upgrade to save weight. Waiting for iPad III to see what weight is like. But it's an amazing product. And people who use mine are still blown away by it.

I still use my iPad 1 but I'm tempted by iPad 2. Not so much by any new features as by 3G which would also include GPS. I would also want more storage. When iPad 2 first came out, there were a pile of 3G 64 gig iPad 1's at Best Buy for just over 600 bucks. I was sorely tempted. Now that I've waited this long, I guess I can wait a little longer for iPad 3 but next time I'll be getting 3g.

I actually just bought a some-what new iPad 1st gen from a friend of mine for $250 :D I've been TOTALLY satisfied with it! I do wish that some apps would load faster, but just a second or two is NOTHING compared to spending a few hundred on a new iPad 2. I'll wait for the 3rd gen and see how that one goes :)
