Bought a 2013 Air 13" 128GB base last week with the Best Buy deal. I noticed in comparison to my 2010 MacBook pro, the screen, made by Samsung, is noticeably more yellow. But I love the higher resolution, and the fast response time during bootup/shutdown/opening software/browsing the Internet. Sent from my MacBook Air.

Just got a new 1.7 from the Apple store online and it is reporting that it is a mid-2013 even though it was just built this month.

okay good, glad i'm not the only one in the same boat.

I actually read on apples support website that custom builds may differ in model designation

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3255

"If you have a custom configuration the Model Number and Configuration in the table may not match. Please use the Model Identifier to confirm the model of MacBook Air for custom configurations."

Well, it may be petty but I want my 2014 to say that it is a 2014. I packed it up and sent it back. Now with my mid 2009 again. Not as fast but the keyboard is much better to type on.

One rational reason is that when I would have gone to sell it in a couple of years it would be a hassle as buyers would think it was a year older than actual.

I would have to agree with you there. These are computers, not cars. I don't think the model year matters to folks as much as do specs and charge cycles / age of the battery.

But you have to do what makes you happy. You pays your money and you takes your choice :)

Just got my MBA 11 with 1.4/8gb/256gb, and my also says mid 2013, not a big deal, maybe apple will release a patch to display the correct year. Was gonna return it thinking I was gonna buy a retina mbp, but after using it Im in love with the size, lol. Doesn't bother me as much as the toshiba ssd I got though, benchmark is giving less read speed then samsung's speed. Maybe I should swap it out, hate that it's BTO, don't want to wait another week.

Did you get the i7? If you did, all of them probably say 2013 since the i7 literally got no update at all, only the i5s got a spec bump. So... FYI.

Hey friends, for those of you who got the 2014 update; are you loving it? I've heard mixed reviews and someone suggested getting a 2013 refurb is a better idea.

My 15-inch mid 2008 MBP just died after many years of me putting it through its paces. Have been talking about getting an MBA for over a year, but have been waiting until my MBP bites the dust. Well....time for an MBA.

Just trying to make a better educated decision about whether grabbing a 2013 refurb is a better idea. I'm a general user (internet, movies, music, word processing, occasional games), but do a lot of work in Excel. It would be my only computer.

Alternatively, getting a new 13-inch rMBP is an option.

I have no experience with the 2014 model, but have been using a 2013 11" i7/8gb/512gb MBA for almost a year as my main computer. I also have a 2008 15" MBP with "one foot in the grave" - the battery is completely dead but I still use it to rip DVD's at home.

I think you would be more than pleased with a 2013 refurb, it will seem like a rocket sled compared to the 2008 MBP. :) I initially replaced my MBP with a 2011 i5 MBA and the CPU was about twice as fast. My 2013 i7 MBA is about 30% faster than that. But of course the SSD is what will really make the MBA seem fast compared to your old Mac.

These are really fast little computers with fantastic battery life. More than capable of being your only machine - I run Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on mine. For "serious" work I connect it to a big screen and keyboard. But it is also a joy to travel with.

The only thing that looks like it might make the 2014 models attractive is additional battery life, but I don't think I've seen any real world reports about how much of a difference it makes. The run time on the 2013 models is really quite good already.

I tried out 4 late 2013 rMBPs and returned them all. They all had yellow tint on different parts of the screen, image retention, scrolling lag when I set scaling to above best for retina (it does triple downscaling). To have the best performance for the MBPr, the display has to be set at best for display which gives the screen size of 1280x800.

Yesterday I ordered a refurbished 2013 13" MBA i7/8/512. Its the same as the 2014 MBA and I saved $310. It will be my main computer, because I'm drifting away from PC gaming and desktops.

If the MBA would only your main computer, I recommend you to try the refurbished 2013 13" i7/8/512.

I read the OS Maverick extends the battery life.

No reason for me. I barely use mine and I already have the i7 model which I don't think they bumped up any this time around.

I am really enjoying my 2014 model but have no basis for comparison on how it matches up with the 2013 since this is my first MBA. I don't think the minor bump in CPU would be noticeable in everyday use. I can say that I am getting the full 12 hours of battery life advertised, even with moderate use. I know a lot of people recommend Apple refurb as good as new but I prefer to buy my electronics brand new. The thought of someone else having used it before turns me off.

Just got a 2014 MBA 11 (base model) today and I'm loving it so far. Nice improvement from the 2010 MBA 11 I had before. Battery life is pretty nice so far.

Were the screens always bad? I was playing with a 2014 model today and noticed blurry text.

It's the same screen that they started with in the Oct. 2010 MBA's. Compared to a retina MBP it looks blurry. Until they update the screen I have no interest in upgrading my Air.

I'm ordering a new 2014 mba only because I gave my three-and-a-half month old 2013 mba to my brother, whose ancient macbook pro was on its last legs. That was at the end of last year. Stupid me... I though I wanted to move back into windows.
