I picked up a 4S on launch day back in October 2011 and I am still using the same unit today.
I've kept it in pristine condition....no damage, cracks, defects, nor signs of physical wear & tear to speak of. I've never dropped it nor had it in water at any point. It could honestly pass for a brand new iPhone 4S.
That said...the battery just does not cut it. I have a mophie juice pack air, and even with that, my phone almost hits 0% by the end of the day. Granted, I am a heavy iPhone user, and am constantly on it for something or another.
I COULD HAVE picked up a 5 last year on an early upgrade from AT&T....yes they would've charged me an extra $250 to do it, but I could have sold the 4S for more than that to even things out.
BUT....I didn't. Had iOS 6 been the least bit exciting and had enough new features to woo me over, I may have. But the way I saw it, aside from the 4" screen and LTE, there really was no reason for me to upgrade. The 4S got all the features of iOS 6 although the 4 did not. Plus the 4G data speeds on the 4S were plenty for my needs, and as for the bigger screen, well....I guess I can't miss what I never had.
To be honest, being that I am on the "S" cycle, having gone from original > 3GS > 4S, I have been anxiously anticipating the arrival of a 5S since last year when the 5 was announced. I'll be upgrading.
