It's a deal breaker for me. I never got used to the feedback, especially when I had to hold a modifier key. I could never be sure the key was still down until I typed. I sold the rMB primarily because of the keyboard. At my desktops, I have cherry mx brown at work and blue at home. I think the difference between the mechanical and the rMB keyboards is too great for me to ever get comfortable with it.

Odd thing is that I don't mind typing on the iPad's keyboard with only visual feedback and no travel. Of course I've never typed a ten page doc on the iPad, that may change my opinion.

Things could get interesting... Until I see what they come up with, I am not ruling out just purchasing one of the current Retina MacBook Pro's, but, I am hoping they come through with something great.

I'm typing on one now and i find it rather easy to touch type, not saying it's better than the MBP keyboard but I really like it.

I really love the new keyboard actually, I didn't at first sight, but as soon as I started to type on it, I loved how silent they were, they are a joy to type on. New standard :)

Ya, it is official for me, I prefer the new keyboard over all others they have made. Having a lot of key travel is just archaic. The new keyboard is sleek, and just superb. I love it. At any rate still on pins and needles waiting for the new computers.

My sentiments as well.

I much prefer the new keyboard to the chiclet - I own both, and am very much hoping that the next redesign of the rMBP includes the newer keyboard.

I do like the direction they are going, I would say if there were one in between the two, I would probably like that the most.

I could see Apple doing this. Besides, there needs to be a distinction between the MB's and MBP's. One is the thinnest possible while the other being still thin, but more powerful.

I've replaced my rMB for rMBP because of the keyboard. Not that I don't like it, I love it. I can type way faster on rMB then on rMBP.

But the keyboard on rMB is pretty bad in quality department. I had to replace my keyboard two times already, and now had to do it for the third time. After that I am staying away from awesome rMB.

I hope they can figure it out fix the issue, coz giving 1500 euros for a laptop with keyboard that has stuck keys or falling out keys is absurd. I will gladly buy rMB again, but only when I'm sure that the keyboard is worth it.

Oh wow, I had heard about this, what exactly goes bad on them?

random keys get sticky. they feel dull. they cannot be home-repaired (popped off ,cleaned, put back in).

at any point in time, 2 or 3 of my keys will go dull. its annoying

As @thettareddast put it, same thing happens to me. And I am a touch typist, so I don't press hard on the keys. But for some reason a few keys get stuck. In my case it's number 3, [, ], n, i, 9.

I would say that when u type a lot on certain keys they get stuck. But that isn't the case, since I really don't use numbers a lot. And if that were the case, then space key, enter, (, + .) would be stuck in my case, since those are the keys I use most often with brackets (developer).

This isn't a rare case, google it. A lot of people are complaining about this. Using compressed air to clean rMB helps some, but not me. I really keep my rMB clean. I don't eat when using it, I don't smoke, or anything similar.

I really love the keyboard, best keyboard for touch typists. Only if the quality was worth the price...

I hope they are paying attention to the repair feedback over at Apple, who knows what is going on over there these days.

Love it too, just like the new wireless one. Typing is so much more smooth and faster for me.

Having both a MBP and the new MacBook, I am very satisfied with the new MacBook's keyboard. While I don't think it's for everybody, I certainly enjoy using it.

My only qualm with the MacBook keyboard is the durability/longevity. There are many documented issues on the forums about people having stuck keys, defective keys, etc. While I did experience these issues on the 2015 MacBook, I now have a 2016 MacBook and have been satisfied with my device's keyboard since day 1.

I too had a few issues on my 2015 MacBook, so as soon as the 2016 became available I dumped the old one. I find the keyboard works well for my fairly heavy use, it is better than the earlier model. Yet that said, I still prefer my 15" 2015 MacBook Pro retina for the majority of my work.

It's important to lower ones expectations since Apple continues to allow quality to decline. Now making their laptops more of a disposable two year lifespan product like iPhones, if we are mindful of that... it helps keep things in perspective.

There's been a few complaints that the plastic construction of the keys are the cause and for some they don't hold up to daily usage. I cannot say if this is true or not, but I can say is that I see a fair number of people complaining about them

Those individual keys must have been tested over and over for durability and longevity - Apple screwed up on that part I guess..

Luckily no issues on the external 'magic keyboard' with the keys, but who wants to use a laptop with an external keyboard?!
It only makes sense for people like me that keep their laptop closed and use the keyboard in front of an external screen in combination with the 'magic trackpad 2'.

No issues with both external devices at all and I have both since the first week they were released.

The latest MacBooks have the WORST keyboards of any laptops available today. There is insufficient key travel to provide a satisfying typing experience. It feels like pushing buttons rather than keys. There is no tactile response.

These shallow MacBook keyboards may be fine for producing short blogs or posting on social media, but not for writing longer works - such as articles, scripts or books. I suspect that the people who designed this keyboard never write anything longer than a two-page email.

Apple used to make the best – most responsive - keyboards in the business. Their obsession with ‘thin-ness’ has blinded them to the pitfalls of shallow key travel.

One of the worst keyboards I have ever used, with a sole design criteria of making the notebook thinner, not improving the typing experience. The butterfly KB has not only significantly degraded the user experience, it has also impacted reliability and foists unnecessary cost to the customer, unless they care to throw their $3K MBP in the garbage at the four year point...

I absolutely agree the current MBP presents the worst keyboard of any major brand in 2018, with even the cheapest of Chrome Books offering a better typing experience, seriously so.

Felt like the equivalent of running barefooted. The tips of my fingers were like my sole getting the hard shock from the ground.

Apple should use the keys that are used with the wireless Magic keyboard. I use that and it's a good balance. Wouldn't use any shorter key travel.

I came from a MacBook Pro 2014. i have the 2018 15“ Model for 2 weeks now, using every day as it is my business laptop as well. I am very happy with the keyboard. It isn‘t noisy as many described at all. It is not lowder then the 2014 model‘s keyboard.

I am very happy with the machine, do not have ANY issue with it till now.
