I am Feeling like this is going in a Funny Direction so Apple can stay ahead of the PC Windows world, I mean the way I look at the price drop and small performance boosts is that Apple has not sold as many Laptops and Desktops as they could because people right now are $ strapped, so the drop makes them a little more affordable to others who might not have stretched to get one in the past, maybe more Mac users sooner then later, who knows.

I am annoyed bc I just bought my 13.3 Uni MB 2.4/2GB for $1599 but there is not much more then maybe the screen I would complain about $99 bucks on a Mac is nothing to cry over.

iPhone I am so glad I only got mine from Best Buy last week because I returned my earlier one from ATT bc their Customer Service Stinks, and I have had decent luck with BB. I called them today since I got mine last Tuesday they said I could return it now and wait, or just come in on the 19th and swap it out and since I paid $299 for the White 16GB, now I get the new one for $199 which will be better when ATT gets their act together on Tethering, and handling the faster Data rates.

I do feel sorry for those who are stuck on the 3G bc they bought it a while ago, but let's face facts the 3G iPhone is no slouch, it is a great phone so your not dead in the water, just think maybe by the time your going to upgrade Apple might do something else like small upgrade, price drop, then you will be in better shape then those who are going to buy the new iPhone in the next few weeks.

Good Luck too all and I have to say this is a great place to learn and share info, I am glad I became a member so thanks to all those who have given me advice and helped me, I hope I can return the gesture to someone I can help...

This is why I am a little upset:
1) Why can't the 3G have voice control? That is just ridiculous
2) Nothing new for 3.0 was really announced. I atleast thought we would see some big new features
3) They are still sticking with the pop up notifications. Why can't they just add a swiping gesture to the menu bar that opens a notification area
4) Ability to reply to MMS from any app

I was really hoping for some of this.

I guess at the end of the day, why should I complain when most phones do not even get this kind of treatment? Most phones you buy and that is that!

I'd say 80% are disappointed by the iPhone hardware but most people including me are happy with the laptops, software, etc.

I'm pretty happy with the announcements today. I would have been pretty pissed if the 3GS was a huge upgrade, since I'm still pretty happy with my 3G and don't plan on upgrading till the contract runs out next year.

MMS is not a big deal for me. At most, I don't have to log into that damn AT&T website to see the few pics I do get.

Tethering isn't important to me yet, since I don't have a laptop.

I would like an explanation why the 3G won't get Voice Commands. Seems like it'd just be a software issue, not hardware.

I am stoked we are getting 3.0 next week. With stereo bluetooth, voice memos, turn-by-turn directions and copy/paste, I've only got one item left on my wish list (integrated to-do list synced to Outlook without having to resort to third-party software).

there is no reason why they cant allow video and voice **** on the current 3g models, hell id even pay 10 bucks for a update or w.e

Mostly disappointed in AT&T.

I don't blame Apple/AT&T for making 3G customers pay partial upgrade. That's the idea of a subsidized contract. As an original iPhone owner though, it gives me pause on whether to wait until next year.

Anyone know if you open an iPhone family plan with an new and existing phone, are you still eligible for a new phone?

1. Being gouged for being a loyal iPhone customer.
2. No MMS.
3. No tethering.
4. No video for the current hardware? Are you 'freakin kidding me?

1. You aren't being gouged. You got a $400 discount when you bought the iPhone 3G. If you're still on the original iPhone, you can upgrade for $199 or $299, because you didn't get that discount.

2. There is MMS. AT&T isn't supporting it yet, why is that Apple's fault?
3. There is tethering. Again, that's AT&T, not Apple.
4. People have been complaining about how the current iPhone's RAM and processor need to be upgraded. Safari can barely handle what's in there now (ever had 2-3 pages open...have you closed Safari and had those pages not have to reload when you reopen it?). Imagine how much video recording/editing would suck.

What about the fact that we have yet to hear about multi-tasking? I can't wait to be able to listen to pandora while doing other things. How can it compete with the palm pre, if they don't release multi-tasking. To sum up my complaints:

1) No Multi-tasking

this was the only thing I was wanting...

Come on guys we know why the 3G doesn't have voice commands.. APPLE WANTS YOU TO BUY THE NEW IHPONE.... They don't want you to stick with the old...

Also what happened to the " Oh one more thing".. I didn't see anything that was a surprise. I did like the "find my iphone" addition.. Sounds pretty cool...

The upgrade in hardware is not enough for me to shell the money out this year.. I will keep my 3G and wait till next year and see what they come up with..

But us AT&T guys get screwed again with STILL having to wait for MMS.. WHY?

James

You got a $400 discount when you bought the iPhone 3G
That is about the funniest thing I've read in a looooong time.

There is MMS? Tell 'ya what. Send me an MMS later on this month.
There is tethering. Again, that's AT&T, not Apple.
There's tethering as well? Tell 'ya what. Tether your laptop with your iPhone later on this month and try re-reading this thread.

That is about the funniest thing I've read in a looooong time.

Why? It's the truth. That's why it is called SUBSIDIZED.

Look, I hate AT&T just like everyone else (not being ready with MMS on day one is TOTALLY unacceptable), but this upgrade thing? Give me a break.

You signed a contract when you went with the iPhone 3G. AT&T paid a portion of the total cost of the device to Apple. This is why you were able to get the iPhone 3G @ $199/$299 when the REAL price was around $599/$699.

Now, if you DID pay the full price, then I can understand why you would be upset, but I'm betting you didn't.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else. There's even a thread about this (which started PRIOR to the iPhone 3Gs Launch)
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/711263/

Apparently, most of the peeps on this board didn't read through this thread. I'm just happy that Apple/AT&T have some sort of option for peeps like me. I EXPECTED to pay more.

Really? You did get a discount, just like every other subsidized phone. In exchange you signed a 2 year contract. "Loyalty" has nothing to do with it. Why would AT&T give you a discount again when you haven't even finished the contract you signed and agreed to?

There is MMS? Tell 'ya what. Send me an MMS later on this month.

Talk to AT&T, since it's them, not Apple, who calls the shots on that.

:cool:There's tethering as well? Tell 'ya what. Tether your laptop with your iPhone later on this month and try re-reading this thread.

Yes. The 3.0 software has built-in support for tethering. That was Apple's job. Now it's up to AT&T to enable it. Talk to them.

The other thing about this iphone with the subsidized price, in my opinion with the spec of the 3G the way they are this phone is NOT worth $500-$600..

I don't think I'll be making the plunge. Yes, I'm a little annoyed than the Iphone 3GS is just another way for Apple to just milk the market. They realized they didn't have to change much on the Iphone already.

The question for all 3G owners is Is the IPHONE 3GS really worth it? $400 worth it?

For video? (whatever, how many times are you really going to use it).

For AF 3.2MP (I mean its good for moments when you want to take a nice picture ...but until I see how good it is...meh)

The processor / ram bump.. (they claim its faster and according to some people who have had hands one...its faster than the PRE by 2x, but if you are tolerant of what you have now...do you really need to upgrade?)

I would paid 400 for the matte black finish alone. I just feel like I'm paying $400 to buy the same phone I bought one year ago.

I didn't really have too high of expectations. I had really high ones last summer and was disappointed, so I remembered to keep them in check this year. After all, I don't think too much can top the excitement than the original iPhone release (maybe the rumored tablet can). I'm expecting a lot more from the iPhone next summer.

1. How are you being gouged?
2. How is that Apple's fault (excluding the first gen issues)?
3. Again, how is that Apple's fault?
4. I kind of agree with you there.

I am extremely disappointed by today, because I cannot purchase one until July. Before I get the neigh Sayer saying "you signed a 2year contract," Ok... sure... yes... I did... and you know what they are going to let me upgrade in July... but is it going to bring heaven and hell down if they let me upgrade 1 month earlier.... So I can purchase it with everyone else like I did last year. Way to ostracize a customer.

not happy with the iphone. att sucks just like verizon and sprint.

ok with the new uMB lineup and the SL upgrade price.
