what i find interesting about the iphone is that everyone knows that it is coming out. Friends at work, my step dad, etc. they all know about the new iphone and facetime. I've never had someone ask me about the HTC incredible or the evo, but everyone knows about the iphone. Even ppl who are not techies or geeks.

I, for one, am incredibly stoked about the new iphone4, upgrading from a 16GB 3g it will be a major upgrade and i'm glad i skipped a generation. I'm sure the iphone 4 will be good for at least 2 years when i upgrade to iphone 6.

I'm super excited about the iPhone 4, but having sold my iPhone 3G yesterday to help fund my Pay As You Go iPhone 4, I now face six weeks without an iPhone.

The way I see it, it's short term pain for long term gain. I don't have an iPhone just now and I'm actually lost without one, but I know in six weeks time I'll have one hell of a device in my hand.

I plan on using this iPhone for the next two years. The higher resolution display, the massively increased pixel count on the retina display, the front facing camera and FaceTime, the 5mp camera, LED flash, 720p video recording, A4 chip, and iOS 4 running at it's optimum?

Next year's iPhone is going to need to go some to beat that, but the above specs are MORE than enough to keep me going for two years.

Half ass what? I will guarantee you that Android's multitasking and notification will still be superior to iOS4's. Not to mention all the other advantages Android still has iOS4 does not like speech to text in any field, native tethering and a built in FREE Google maps with navigation :)
That argument would carry a lot more weight with me if I actually cared about any of those features. I care about user experience, not bullet-points or spec sheets.

Human brains can not multi-task. People are less productive when they try to do so. It only takes a second to switch between apps. That is enough for me. I would rather focus on what I am doing than have six things going at once.

How USEFUL is text to speech? lol...
It's fun but once you make it say "Your name is awesome." It's pretty boring. :p

I found it hard to get my friend excited for the iPhone 4 at first. But then I talked about having a portable 5mp camera and 720p video recording. I'm trying really hard to convert people to the iPhone 4 because I need to have more people I can facetime with. :)

I have to wait a year before my next upgrade, but I do not mind because I think we need to slow down the rate we're consuming the planet....

In any case, I think many are underestimating the potential of the new iPhone. If the new antennae on the rim of the phone works better, even this modest change might result in even better battery life than expected from the new battery (40% bump in power) as well as improved phone and GPS reception. The screen sounds better than before (no doubt the purveyors of porn sites are rubbing their hands with glee). The gyroscope might be the first step in stabilized photography, and the camera has higher resolution in any case. I also wonder if the front-facing camera can be used for eye-tracking, which could lead to novel ways of interacting with the phone. Put all of these 'unexciting' technical improvements on top of the new all-dancing, razzmatazz iOS, and it sounds like a qualitative jump forward.

I just hope the iPhone 5 has as many 'unexciting' improvements when it is presented next year.

I tried this one with a collegue that is pregnant when told me that in September she will have a new phone with her contract and she'll get a Samsung over an iPhone because of the better camera it has and she won't miss anything when her kid will come.

Now I don't know what random Samsung she was talking about because she didn't know as well and the camera resolution was, "I don't know, 8 megapixel?" she said... When than I said that with the iPhone she could record in HD 720p she came out with, "...and what do I use it for?". Just hopeless. People don't know what they are talking about.
