hello

i have 2 reserved and am getting mine hopefully im selling boht of the reservations buying them at full retail

I don't see much of a profit. I would do this in a heartbeat. I am glad other people are making money though.

Right now, I can upgrade. Say I buy a 32gb iPhone 4.

I spend $350 (tax, activation, etc.).

Then sell for $800, the cheapest on eBay right now.

With the $800, I then buy a no-contract priced iPhone 4 when it's available at $700.

Am I missing something? :p

No you're not..... You have to have a line you don't want the iPhone on and then buy another phone outright. I am using my sister in laws upgrade to buy one of my i's, the other 2 are on my account.

Well, I am very tempted.
I used the upgrade on my line but my moms upgrade is in early July.

The thing is, though, my sister wants to use my moms upgrade to get an iPhone 4. So we could Facetime and stuff while shes at college..it'd be nice.

Whats more important: Family or Money.
Please, don't answer unless it's the right one.

I would highly recommend everyone avoid ebay and their paypal scam. It so easy to be taken by paypal as a seller. I sold some Dallas Cowboys tickets for $700 last year, delivered the tickets after receiving money in my paypal account only to have them pull those funds four days later because the buyer supposedly used a stolen credit card. Just google paypal + scam. Craigslist is much better, less fees - just make the transaction in a busy area.

No, because I am not low-life, non-contributing scum.

Why not create something yourself and make a profit? Oh, that requires work.

Agreed. I have the same problem with ticket scalpers. By making these ridiculous "profits", you're taking away from those who really want to and deserve to get an iPhone 4 at the regular retail price. I hope Apple starts to punish those who do this crap.

Theres a big difference between a limited commodity like a ticket to a show or something and a phone that there will be a million more of in a month.

LoL you guys are funny. Don't cry because someone makes a few bucks from a product they:
1. Can legally buy and own under the rules set forth by apple,at&t
2. Used their valid upgrade to buy. (that they didn't get "moved up" to use)
3.Purchased with their hard earned cash. (I work 72 hours a week to provide for my family)

Who says you DESERVE to get an iPhone 4? Who says I don't have just as much right to buy said iPhone? Who says the person on the other side of the e-bay transaction doesn't "deserve" that phone as much as you? Both of you are pretty arrogant to say such things.

So how can apple punish the evil among you that use our own money to put a little more scratch in their pocket? FFS both of you need to get a freakin life.

True, but it just pisses me off when someone profits on something people tried hard to get. For instance, I tried hard to get tickets to a show recently (just 3 tickets for myself and two friends), and was unable to get them despite being on the site the very minute they went on sale. I then went on Stubhub and found people selling 15-20 tickets to a limited show (less than 1800 tickets) at more than double face value. How is it fair that people can do that, while others who just wanted tickets to actually ATTEND the show can't get them and are forced to pay outrageous rates or not see the show?

The same principal applies to iPhones. Yes, people could wait a few weeks, but what about those who need to get a phone on the 24th (such as those who have already sold and promised their old iPhones to people on the 24th) and weren't able to pre-order due to people hogging and then SELLING pre-orders? All any of them wanted was to pre-order a phone they, themselves, would actually use, and they weren't able to do so because of people pre-ordering several and then selling them on eBay for at least a couple hundred dollars more. I don't have a problem with people buying one and selling it for more, but several when there's already a shortage for people who actually WANT to use one? It's ridiculous.

As for needing to get a freakin' life, really? I'm working my way through college, full-time for both, and am sorry I lack the funds to buy several iPhones so others can't get them at the retail price at launch. I'm not looking to start a fight, and am just expressing an opinion that I am sure many share.

Don't worry, these people in the end aren't making much profit anyways. They will get another 2 year contract and if they break it, they have etf's and month bills and all that.

It's more trouble than it's worth. :)

mutliple person family plan who will stay with at&t for a long time
person 1 eligible for 299 price = buy phone for myself
person 2 not eligible but buy for 499 = sell for 950+ on ebay
person 3 not eligible but buy for 499 = sell for 950 on ebay
1900-1060=840-170in fees= profit

Really? I'm getting a free 32g i-4 and $640 in my pocket after all the "bills" are paid. I have had AT&T for about 4 years and don't plan on switching. I have owned every iPhone and don't plan on switching. I earned those iPhones withe my $170 monthly bill. Now, I am using my sister in law's upgrade but she also earned that upgrade. I am also giving my 3gs (which will be a "brand new" refurb r/t dust under the screen/cracks in the case) so that's a $ $300 or so payment.

Me saying get a life was a bit over the top and I know what it's like being a "starving college kid" so good for you, keep working hard. My issue is really on the entitlement some "think" they should have. I get upgrades because I pay my bill and honor my end of the contract. I earned it I'm not entitled to it.

So you have 2 lines that you pay $10 dollars on every month? Plus that other line? I am not quite getting how you are making any money in the long haul.

$10 x 24 = $240 x 2 = $480 + phone costs.

Or is it you don't care that you pay those costs later on as long as you get money up front?

Not really.

$1900 - $499 = $1401 - $499 = $905 - $299 = $603 - $20 x 24 ($10 month per line for 2 years) = $123 - $150 fees = $-27 dollars.

Maybe my math is wrong?

Don't the buyers on ebay want and deserve an iPhone 4 as much as the next guy?

Just like the original PS3, I know I can sell on eBay for a profit but I'd much rather be an owner of the launch product, so I'll be keeping it.

I honestly don't see the point. First of all not all the phones are going for that price, maybe a handful are actually hitting 900-1000+. And even if you sell yours you make something like 700-800 dollars, which you would have to pay to buy yourself one, considering your second iphone would be unsubsidized. So really at the end of the day you wait a month for a phone and if your lucky make $100.

The problem with everyone's math is that they ASSUME that the seller will buy another iPhone 4....

If you're perfectly fine with your 3GS then this is free money. Sell for $900 minimum, buy for $350 absolute max, and that's at least $500 after fees. I wouldn't be complaining with an extra $500 from minimum work (college student), but even after all of that I'd rather take the iPhone 4.

Not really.

$1900 - $499 = $1401 - $499 = $905 - $299 = $603 - $20 x 24 ($10 month per line for 2 years) = $123 - $150 fees = $-27 dollars.

Yea your math is obviously wrong since you skipped over the first lie where it states that we will have AT&T for a long time to come so we will be paying the 10 per line regardless if I buy these phones or not.

But if you did do your math correct in the end I will have payed $27 for the 2 lines for 24 months and a 32 gb iPhone 4 for myself, sounds like a pretty bad deal right

It is not about entitlement. I feel it is a very low thing to do. You did not take part in creating the phone, yet you want to money from it's sale. It is not clever. You are taking an iPhone that somebody else actually wants to use so you can make a quick, lazy profit.

Instead of taking advantage of people and the system how about you work on something, create it and then sell it for profit.

What you are doing is not profiting, you are scalping, just like those people on the corner at a concert.

Of course YMMV but this is MY situation.
I have at-t and iPhone, I am eligible for an upgrad.
Wife has at-t and iPhone, she is eligible for an upgrade
Sister I/L has at-t but no iPhone, doesn't want the iPhone is eligible for an upgrade.
We all plan on staying with at-t for years to come (at least next 2)

Sell one i-4 $905 shipped
Sell one i-4 $900 shipped
I have $1805
Fee's for both phones:
Paypal $52
Ebay $118
Shipping $64
Now I have $1571

Pay for 3 32g iPhone 4's $933
Now I have $638 in my pocket AND one 32g iPhone 4.

The lines would of been used for the next 2 years anyway so no extra fee or ETF. SIL doesn't want an iPhone and wife will upgrade later if she wants (of course we will have to pay full price). I will be giving my 3gs to my brother and every one is happy.
My situation is really very simple to understand and I've explained it before.... guess some people don't read the thread but a few post then fire.

Dude, wtf are you talking about. Don't you think the people buying the iPhones from me WANT those phones? If they didn't why would they buy them? Your entire point is, well it won't be nice so I'll bite my tongue.
You didn't take part in making the car you drive, yet when you sell it don't you hope to turn a profit?
As far as lazy goes.... I work 12 hours a night 6 nights a week (72 hours for the "slow" ones) so my wife can go to school full time. I pay my bills including my at-t bill of $170 a month, so who are you to call me lazy? Talking out your 4th point of contact is what you're doing.
Who is being taken advantage of?
As far as the system goes, how am I taking "advantage" of that? There are upgrades to be used and I used them. I paid MY hard earned cash to buy those phones, not yours. So, when you start paying MY bills maybe THEN I'll be interested in what you have to say. Now, I'm sorry you didn't have the upgrades to use but I did. If you did have the upgrades to use and didn't than that's you problem not mine.
