Using this picture as comparison, how can you say the 6 Plus is MUCH taller than the Note 3? Lol
You've gotta be joking. Another thing there are some usability problems with a huge phone, like a phablet, with too much thin bezels. In fact, it doesn't need to be a phablet, I had problems handling the Moto X first gen, accidentally touching the screen with my palm when using it one handed.

It's pretty significant when you consider that the iPhone's screen is 5.5" while the Note 3 is 5.7".

Also every phone has problems with the palm touching the screen when you use it one handed. I still occasionally hit the "Go" button when reaching for the 'Q' on my iPhone 4.

Having larger bezels at the side may reduce the chance of that happening, but larger bezels at the top and bottom won't change a thing.

But the problem gets much worse when the device is larger and has slim bezels. That makes the chance of accidental touches much higher.

Regarding the top and bottom, IMO the additional inches are worth the tradeoff, since the fingerprint scanner on those Samsung phones don't work so well and are difficult to use one handed because of the button shape. Round buttons are a more natural shape for that and Apple's solution works much better. I also think the symmetry between the top and bottom bezels should be kept, makes the devices look nicer, but I agree that, on the case of the 6 Plus, they trim some inches from the top and bottom.

Speak for yourself, the passport is an ****ing beautiful piece of tech IMO (and many others).

People like yourself probably laughed at the Galaxy Note when it was first unveiled and called it a failure...

:eek:a picture is worth a thousand words. Terrible.Your right about me laughing at the note at first. But I don't think this is going to catch on like the note did.

Don't get a Note 4... It bends. They even copied that... /s

Blackberry is on the loosing side of history. I am sure they can make a decent phone, but you will not have a decent software library. I teased my relative for being Canadian and having a BB.

Why are people complaining about the bezel? Side to side the Note 3 has visually the same bezel as the iPhone 6 Plus. This is where it counts, these 3mm to 4mm prevent you from reaching parts of the screen with your thumbs. So I see no difference here. The top and bottom are for different things and really have no impact on the usability of the phone.

For one though, the home button size, is the very reason why Touch ID works on the iPhone, and doesn't work on any Samsung galaxy very well. It's light years ahead for Apple. Samsung did a "me too" and implemented it poorly.

No seriously, I can't believe the blatant fanboyism of some Apple fans that they would come up with ridiculous statements just to defend the iPhone. I can't believe either how there are people calling the OP a troll when they are the ones giving troll-ish replies while the OP has explained clearly why he has this opinion.

The whole point people are willing to put up with the large size of a phablet is because they want a big screen, not to get huge bezels. Look at how the 6+ is so much taller than the Note 3 even though the Note 3 has a larger screen at 5.7".
I have to say that your choice of picture just demonstrates to me that there is very little difference between the Plus and the Note in screen size. I personally wouldn't be bothered about roughly 5mm. That is half a finger tip really. Both have large screen's, too big for my taste. This just comes down to choice of OS rather than which screen is bigger because there is little difference.

For the sake of symmetry and a home button/finger print sensor that works as it should, I can't see how Apple can make the bezels any smaller.

Of course they could make the device wider to offset the bigger top and bottom bezels but that would make the device cumbersome to handle.

Sorry but nothing pretty about the Passport or Blackberry! All five of my last Blacberry units purchased for my compnay all died in the middle of the night, never to see life again. Moved to iPhone and have never looked back.

And please do not give me that security thing as the average user enjoys no more security than an iPhone.

Looking at the picture that is a pretty large difference especially considering the Note has a bigger screen. If the iPhone had a bigger screen like the Note it would be even taller.

And accidental touch is a ridiculous argument. Do you want a bezel so wide your entire palm can fit on it? And unlike a larger tablet you hold a phone from the edges. If someone is having problems using a phone because the bezels are too small its because they are doing something wrong.

No, I don't think anyone did... Because why would you buy one in the first place if you didn't like the bezel situation?

Bad idea. If there isn't an Apple logo on it people here will find it terrible, ugly, pointless, etc etc.

The ironic thing about it is the apologist here sound EXACTLY like they did on the blackberry forums. The difference in this case is instead of defending a functional keyboard they are defending pointless bezels. As if there is no other way to incorporate a home button/finger print scanner. I'm surprised no one has said "iconic home button" yet. Lol.

I need them!

When I first saw the IPhone 6Plus I thought the bezels could do with some shrinking. Aesthetically it's not as pleasing to my eye. But after actually using the device, especially for making videos, I'm so thankful they are there! As it is, my fingers keep hitting the screen and engaging the AE/AF lock and messing up my pics and vids as I get used to using this IPhone. It would be a lot worse for me if the bezels were shaved down even a few millimeters. I'm no longer in the camp that desires the form factor altered to reduce bezel size.

I think the Plus is fine as it is. If I could make a change to the 6 I'd make it a bit thicker to give it a more robust battery and have the camera no longer protrude. That's it.

I'm not so much talking about BlackBerry OS or the company itself as I have never had a BlackBerry before (and most likely never will)... but I still like the passport and think its a beautiful piece of machinery in the same way I thought the first generation Note was when I saw it.

As for the security that BlackBerry users claim it provides... meh. I 'trust' Apple (at least more than any other company) and have never had a problem with them yet.

THAT is the new BlackBerry?

It looks so...

retarded...
desperate...
bizarre...
fragile...

The keys actually have 'caps'? Seriously? On a portable device?

I see a very frustrating future for owners of that device...

I'm looking at my iPhone keyboard that is always caps and it even has the ability to change, yet it does not.

Anyone else feel this way?

Background info - initially was on board with Apple, had the very first model and the 3g, and then moved to Android's Note series for the bigger screen.

Note 3 term expired last month, and needed a new phone - loved the screen of the 6+ and purchased it on the day of release. 3 days later I returned it - I just couldn't get around how much wasted space there was and kept imagining what the 6+ could have been if it had smaller bezels. (And I won't lie, bendgate had me worried as I work in trades and even in a case, my phones take some decent abuse).

My search for an optimal screen with not a lot of wasted space led me to the Blackberry Passport (I know, I'm crazy, but I liked the square display), and the Huawei Ascend Mate 7, which has an amazing screen and hardly any bezels. Went with the BB in the end.

The thinness on the 6+ is nice, but would anyone really object to a thicker phone, smaller bezels, and a bigger battery, or am I crazy for thinking this way?

So don't go on vacation to London England. You will hate the rain, and decide to come back early.

The iPhones have pretty much always had a lot of 'real estate' at the top and bottom of the screen. I don't see the 6+ having that much 'wasted' space. We get a bigger battery, and such with that 'wasted space'.

At some point, the size gets to be a bigger problem than the benefits. Phones 'bending' is going to become a larger issue over time. Having physical keys is going to be a much bigger issue, and sooner too I'd wager.

The time for physical keys (and track balls) is over, done, history.

All I kept hearing at one company I consulted with was how much the keyboard sucked and the 'track ball' jammed. BlackBerry's were 'required' by upper management because he was the only one that could type well on them. They even bought the software that routed your Exchange email to the devices, and put up with the crappy service of Sprint, and the fact that EVERY EMAIL was forwarded, including ALL of the junk/spam...

As soon as the iPhone came out, a few of the lower echelon people started buying them and using them for their personal email/texting, and they caught on with others who forwarded their corporate email through Outlook to their iPhones. The HUGE outage for Blackberry users was the beginning of the end for them and those devices.

Then the BB 'evangelist' was fired... *POOF* went the Blackberry's...

Blackberry had their ride to fame. They 'owned' the market for a long time. However, unless they carve out a niche market (like ultra security, satellite, whatever) they will die as a company, orphaning all of the people that still cling to their dated technology...

It's awkward holding and hitting the 'shutter button' enough already with the 5. Some size and space would make the one handed quick snap a better and easier experience...

Physical key caps. Like the old keyboards in the IBM era. I've seen Blackberrys that are missing the physical key caps...

Comparing an iphone 6+ to a blackberry passport with keyboard is like comparing a car with a motorcycle. They are completely different products.

Who could select a passport only for the bezels?

The most important thing of a phone is the OS not the design. Blackberry is too limited with their apps. Also comparing ios 8 to blackberry os is a complete joke

Yeah, I can understand it totally. Initially when the plus was first announced, my opinion was highly swayed and I was considering getting that instead. However I decided that I would be going for the iPhone 6 instead the moment I realized that it's taller than the Note 3 while having a smaller screen.

Also the iPhone is ridiculously thin. If you could reduce the footprint by making it thicker then it's probably a good trade-off.

No, seriously. I like the bezels. They can't really get any smaller unless the home button gets smaller, then the fingerprint scanner might be as crappy as the Samsung attempt.

Besides, thin bezels visually remind me of Samsung phones, which I think are ugly as hell. So, yes. I actually DO like the bezels. If they were a wee bit thinner I think I'd still like the phone, but I hope Apple never makes them super thin or asymmetrical. I don't think I'd like that.

Maybe if they figured out a way to eliminate them altogether, who knows?

I do think it's rude to accuse people of being trolls for having a personal preference. I certainly didn't call you one for disagreeing with mine.

Perhaps you could consider that not everyone finds the same things aesthetically pleasing?

I see MANY new cars on the road every day that I think are real stinkers. I would not personally purchase those ugly things new. I mean, the Nissan Cube? The Juke? Ugh.

But, some people love the look of those cars. I drive a Volt. I have seen plenty of people gripe about how they think it is ugly. But, I don't care. I think it's a great car. I like the way it looks and I like not using gas unless I'm on a long trip.

What's so weird about people liking the look of bezels vs. wanting them to be different?

This is a troll thread... No one honestly like BB phones.

You know I'm talking about the side bezels and not the top and bottom ones, right?

Regarding the difference in screen size, I find it to be really negligible for the user experience. Do you really think you'll notice those 0.2 inches when you use it?

And accidental touch can be really an issue when you're trying to use the phone with one hand.

Apple won't loose the bezels. The shape is the identity of the phone. It's iconic. If they remove the bezels it will look like a samsung. And that's why they are there. Think about how many times just the outline of the phone and the home button are used in promotional instances not just from Apple but around the web, that instantly say iPhone without having to see a picture. It's like changing the shape of a Coke bottle. Not going to happen. There's too much invested in it. It's instantly recognizable. It was the same thing for the iPod.

I posted this exact sentiment in another forum and got laughed off for it. It's a bit naive to think conversation didn't happen in Cupertino. It's branding 101.

Besides I don't mind the height. It's the width that bothers me. I would have preferred a 5.3" to make it a bit narrower personally. This doesn't mean that in time they won't be able to change things. If the screen actually went edge to edge it would be narrower. They might introduce a size in between or something.

I do agree with the sentiment that they made one too big, and one too small. 5" would have been the sweet spot.
