Thanks for the info, in the end I reached out to ESR support and they gave me a full refund with the option to keep the case. They did indeed mention a fixed version coming out in June.
No worries. I just did the same. Hopefully will give me a refund as well.

I found a case I like. It’s the Pitaka Magez 2 Folio. It is lightweight and sturdy in the 4 positions you can put it into. I have the Apple folio case here too, and the Pitaka is much sturdier while being a little lighter in weight. The pitaka case also has a portrait position, which the apple folio doesn’t have.

The case has a decent feel to it, again better (and $30 cheaper) than the apple folio.

The Pitaka took 8 days to get to the US. Right now, they appear to be restocking, but if you can wait, I think this is a much better case than the apple folio, at a cheaper price.

This is what I’m waiting for.

There’s a company called Moshi that make a case called Versacover. I’ve used them for all my iPad Pros. They make excellent cases. I’m in the UK and it’s an American company; I can’t tell if they’re still manufacturing as their website and instagram haven’t been updated for ages. Really hope so.

I got the OtterBox Statement Series Studio along with my 11“ M4 purchase, I really dislike it. It‘s pretty heavy and way too difficult getting my iPad in and out of the case. And the screen cover doesn’t actually cover the entire screen at the top, instead it leaves a tiny gap that I assume is for opening? Either way it’s really hard to actually get a grip to pull the damn thing open. My old case overlapped a bit so you could pull it open from above, or just open it from the exposed side. This thing is covered everywhere and it’s impossible to open the cover apart from a long-ish nail into that abysmal gap.
Lacks typing view in opposite orientation as well. And the pen cover slides out really easy if you try to grip the bottom to get the integrated kickstand out. Volume buttons barely protrude and are incredibly mushy. Also a bit concerned with the thermals with this thing, seems to trap a lot of the heat inside unless I open up the integrated kickstand. Had residue glue in some spots as well… I can’t believe Apple sells this thing on their store, especially for the price!

I will definitely return this, so I’m looking into some cases on Amazon instead. I got this for my 2018 11”, it was cheap but it did everything I wanted it to and it held for 6 years:
Unfortunately I can’t find anything similar from ESR so far. Ironically the other OtterBox case(360 Symmetry) seemed pretty promising, but it has some annoying double-flap cover design.

Looking for something that has the old 3-fold magnetic cover and the typing stance. And also covering the corners but preferably leaves the buttons exposed. Don’t ever plan on getting the Pencil, so that part covered to increase protection is just a plus. Any suggestions? The only ones I’ve found so far with these requirements has some ugly translucent back.

I'll offer a counter review, not so much in defense of the case, but to remind that it is an alternative.

I did an earlier mini review elsewhere, that you can check if you want.

But to cover some of your points mentioned, I'm not sure if it's the case you got or if there are differences from 11 inch to 13 inches. First is ( my opinion ) it isn't that heavy, but it does add weight to the iPad itself, then again anything will because the device is so light. It has to add weight though because it completely protects the device, unlike a folio which would protect only the back. I had the completely opposite issue of fit on my 13in, as the case kind of just fit on my iPad. Which is what made the buttons feel mush. The trade off that I had no issue with though is that it meant taking the iPad in & out of the case has been one of the easiest I've ever experienced. Which has been a big plus for me when I go back & forth with the magic keyboard.

The cover is definitely an issue as it connects to the case in a strange manner. It kind of loops around the side & inwards. Which often gives the cover strange placement, but it does cover the iPad completely by tucking inside the case. Which means it does give full coverage, but it also makes lifting the cover off, a bit of a chore. The kickstand itself is what makes me keep the case, as it offers a variety of positions for me to work with. Either as propped up almost straight to use with a mechanical keyboard when home, completely straight up & down if you put it portrait, and normal when typing on it with the virtual keyboard. I think M$ has it right with kickstands for tablets, and wish Apple would consider a solution or case of their own that provides one.

I'm not saying the case is great. I'm saying it's the alternative in the Apple store to the folio. It's what we all go thru for the first month or two with a new Apple device. Accessory manufacturer's can't all be ready on release day with a multiple of options. You can expect anything within the first few weeks of release of a device will always have compromises, or go naked & wait patiently for the accessory that hopefully meets as many of your needs as possible.

iPad Pro 13 case or cover with simply basic protection and stand options?

Something like the Zugu looks about right but isn’t available yet. We can use a tomtoc laptop sleeve in the interim as we have some trips planned. The Pitaka Magez 2 Folio doesn’t look like it would be easy to balance the way my wife uses the iPad with the small triangle stand design.

She uses her iPad primarily to watch streaming content and view photos. She also uses it to read and occasionally to follow a recipe while cooking.

Currently she has a basic clear rubber back cover for protection. That isn’t ideal for support on an airplane. She watches frequently sitting in bed. I’m not sure how she supports the iPad. I’ll need to check but I would think a simple cover that folds over to make a solid stand would be best.

That OP got a laugh out of me!

I typed up that post on the first day of using it when I was quite frustrated with the case as a whole, I'll have to walk back on the part where I said it was heavy. It's actually a bit lighter than my old 2018 with its case. Interesting that yours is the easiest that you've owned to take it in/out of, while it's the dead opposite for me.
A bit off-topic, but I've got the Sony WH-1000XM5's, and in-between media playing they default to a loud 70-80% volume when typing or playing notifications... Which makes the volume buttons being easy to find and press almost crucial for my hearing lol. Even after 6 years it's way too easy to forget about lowering the volume every single time you pause for a while and play something else, been like that since the XM3.

The cover is the main reason why I can't keep the case. I cut my nails and now it's basically impossible to get a hold of it unless I pull the cover down a bit and nab it by the top.. It was also an oversight on my part to not realise that all the view modes were with the port to the right. I use my iPad plugged in a lot to the strip in my desk, which is to my left. So I "can't" really use any of the stand modes... Even if I could, I still think this one sheet of cover that cuts below the top instead of overlapping is such a large a design error that makes it unusable for me anyway.

The folio seemed even worse to me with no corner protection. So I guess if you can overlook the its flaws, it's a better case for protection for sure. But given the quality mine seemed to arrived it, the price tag versus the random case I got last gen is appalling. So I'll jump on the hate train for this one.

That said, I found this case which seems pretty similar feature-wise to the one I had for my 2018:
I'd prefer a case with a non-translucent back, but I couldn't find one that didn't have bad reviews... Although this one has no reviews yet. Does anyone here have experience with Timovo cases?

I really like this design too and was hoping they were going to make this case for the new 13" iPad but I can't find any statement from the company about new cases.

Some price reductions beginning to show up, possibly indicating functionality issues.

The CoBak is $4.99 down from $14: https://www.amazon.com/CoBak-Released-Protective-Feature-Tablet/dp/B0CYCHL4TH/

The similar Moko Ultra Slim Stand Case with Hard PC Translucent Back Shell Cover $11.95 plus an extra -10% from $15: https://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Ultra-Translucent-Support-Pencil/dp/B0D26DWZCD/

No price cut yet but 1 of 1 review of Speck Balance Folio says the on/off cover doesn’t work: https://www.amazon.com/Speck-Case-iPad-Pro-Inch/dp/B0D2GSRC1L/

I had the decoded slim case for exactly same reasons. Unfortunately, looks like they are out of business except for remaining stock selling.

For those curious, the Burton Goods leather Magic Keyboard case is shipping out the weeks of 06/16 and 06/23, at least for the pre-orders. Thinking it’ll arrive around this time next month.

Just got the Logitec keyboard case. Really like it so far.

I’m waiting on the Holimet version for the iPad m4 11in. Have it for my iPad mini and absolutely love it b

I got the ESR Rebound 360 and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro for my wife's 11 inch M4, and I got the Logitech Combo Touch Pro for my 13 inch M4.

So far, no issues on the 11 inch M4 cases and my wife is just deciding between the two, but leaning Spigen.

I love the updated Combo Touch Pro, build quality is much better compared to previous gen (no more rubber around the speakers and edges which always ended up stretching and I had to get warranty replacements), feels lighter too and more sturdy. The one critique I have on the new version is the soft touch material is a fingerprint magnet, and I cannot remove the prints without vigorous scrubbing with a microfiber and liquid screen cleaner. I may need to find a different product to help with fingerprints.

Can you say where you got those specific dates from? I’m trying to decide if I should order now or wait until the dates firm up, or until it says it’s already available and shipping (I only see “mid-June” expected date on the website).

I agree. Although Pitaka are not quite sure yet is it is compatible with their new MagEZ Case for 13” iPad Pro. That product offers side protection & with the earlier 12/9” models, can swap between Magic Keyboard & Folio.
Pretty much what I’m after: sometimes a faux computer & typing, others for watching TV and lounging about.
