Jeremy was using a H1. The H3 is smaller so its better for roads. Plus, they are very good off-roads.

Hummers look like big toys, I suppose if you're in to the Tonka truck look... I, for one, am not.
Most people don't need off road performance. It's usually on road, snow performance that most people encounter on their commutes. I do agree that small cars like the Honda Civic blows on slippery, frozen roads but getting something a little bigger like an Accord or Impala solves that problem. I don't think there's a need to upgrade to a gas guzzler, especially with the gas prices now.

Get a Land Rover. They are way better. Hummers don't have the articulation or agility unlike Rovers. Anyways, why are you talking about this at the age of 13? It's five years until you get your license and I can bet that a Hummer has pretty high resale value there as it does here.

We've had 5 Rovers in my Family. My dad had a 1963 Series IIa, a 1990 Range Rover Classic, and a 2003 Discovery SE7 (all sold). I used to have a 1998 Discovery LSE until I hit a deer and totaled it, but I am in the market for a replacement discovery. My mom currently has an 2007 Range Rover Sport HSE (no supercharger :(). We love them even though they are unreliable. Fact is there is nothing else that feels like a Rover. An H2 and H3 Hummer is just a fake offroad SUV that has very little off road technology put into it.

Best offroad car though hands down is a defender or a series land rover. I don't know what it is with those things but they are unstoppable. A good condition Series LR would run you about $10,000+ in the US, and for a 94,95, or 97 Defender $25,000-$50,000.

One thing I absolutely hate about the H2 and H3 is that the wheels are made to look like they have the CTIS, even though they don't have the geared hubs required for such a system. THE WHEEL IS A LIE!

we consider anything over 2ltr's a large vehicle!

My Impreza is not a large car. :p Plus, AWD + snow = FUN

Also, if you want to do serious off-roading, get a Jeep.

My aunt has an H3 and it's nice. I would much rather have a luxury SUV crossover (Nissan Murano or Acura MDX) but it was pretty cool. To me though, if you get a Hummer, it's kind of like begging for attention. I'd rather not drive status symbol.

Hi, im interested in cars so im just curious here, does anyone here have a HUMMER here? And if so, what one is it and what do you think of it?

They seem pretty cool, but I thought I would get input from owners.
You have to be an absolute jerk to drive a Hummer. I know that's a rather sweeping statement, but unless you are in need of some kind of emergency vehicle or traveling through country without roads, or a member of some really marginal utility group you pretty much have to be a jerk to think driving a Hummer is "cool."

I mean think of everyone you know who has one and have them stand in a line-up in your mind. Take a good look at them. ******s on parade or what? Then try to think of the face of some really nice person you know that has one. Drawing a blank? I know I am.

Also, even if you think everything I just said is wrong, and you think that you *are* a nice guy ... be prepared. Most people who see you climb out of one will *think* you are a jerk, whether you are or not.

In my neighborhood (Canada) they are quite rare, and I have seen random citizens actually curl their lips and shake their fists at Hummers if they see one driving down the street. Seriously.

You might as well wear a USA flag on your jacket and a "F*ck the Environment!" T-Shirt.

please define your "interest" in cars.

A british TV show (i state for the american readers) "Top Gear" put the Hummer and Range Rover/Land Rover through its paces, all i can say is the Hummer is a joke.

For an off road vehicle the hummer is good for the scrap yard the moment it leaves the assembly line.

Not only does it have an MPG thats going to tear a hole through your wallet and not to mention the ozone but it can barely tackle the wilderness of most extreme hills/mountains of which the Range Rover completed with ease, the Hummer broke down and several parts burnt out, what a joke.

The hummer is all about BLINGAGE (a term coined but brain dead drug smoking council estate scum [least in british terms equivalent]), so if you want a vehicle that looks like it was designed by 10 year old what with its crappy shiny allows that look like plastic hub caps and over stretched body and ugly arse appearance that can barely do the shopping run without needing filling up and might break down en route then go for it, but if you dont intend on using it off road thus defeating the point of an off roader im sure you will enjoy the fun filled moments of trying to get through some of Britains infamous tight roads built before cars existed much less a monstrosity of a creation called the hummer..

I may have possibly repeated myself on occasion but thats a load off..

Ok I left MR but I came back to say this-

What on earth! I live on the foothills of the Peak District and there's no need for an off-road vehicle here! Where abouts do you live? You know this is not America where you just veer off the road and drive through some desert in a Hummer (Don't shout the name). This is full of owned fields and roads.

Even if you were to drive through the Grampian or Snowdonia regions during winter there are much better vehicles out there with much better MPG.

Take Top Gear with a grain of salt. They are always partial to British Cars. There is some stupid video out there that someone made where they make a Jeep, G500, Range Rover, and Discovery look like crap. It's all about how they edit it. Driver skill also makes a huge difference.

That said I would still take a Range Rover over a Hummer any day. The Land Rover has a much more sophisticated drive train, much better interior, I am a LR fanatic, and much better looking. The Range Rover has one of the best suspensions ever for a stock car.

Instead of a Hummer get an LR3/Discovery 3, Range Rover, a Grand Cherokee w/QuadraDrive (front, center, and rear locking diffs), or a Land Cruiser (the full size "Amazon" or w/e they call them over there).

Too bad the new Land Cruisers SUCK

RR/LR have proved themselves time and time again, i already considered the counter argument of biased video editing, but still, TG doesnt always show british brands to be the best not that i take that as absolute proof.

I just found the video very entertaining was all. :)

My other points stand still, what on earth will the driver do when faced with some of britains toughest tight roads? Hummer is almost the width of 2 cars (notice almost), some roads in older areas barely have room for 1 car to travel down at a time.

Only get one if you're prepared to look like your compensating for something.

*ahem* *ahem*
:p:rolleyes:

In that Hummer vs. Esclade vs. Range Rover video they never show why the Hummer isn't working. It was in the lead and then developed "altitude sickness"... what ever that means. I'm not surprised the Esclade got stuck with those massive overhangs and that huge low bumper and the huge wheels with low profile tires. I would like to point out though that the skill of the Esclade driver was horrible. They practically drove it straight into a gully- extreme angles that no can can handle.

Believe me, I am the biggest Land Rover fan out there, like I said in my family has owned 5 Land Rovers, 4 in my lifetime and we just love them.

I've been in one numerous times as my father's friend owns one. I've been offroading in it as well which was fun. It wasn't extreme offroading, but family oriented off roading which was about 2 miles in length. I'm sure the thing could handle the frozen tundra or something, but I had a lot of fun on the 2 mile course.

Edit: Just realized my username after 2 years.

If your wallet is deep enough to pay for the gas, go ahead and get a hummer.

H1 & H2: 10 MPG with 32 gallon tank - $97.60 to fill up from empty
H3: 18 MPG with 23 gallon tank - $70.15 to fill up from empty
Glares you'd get on the street for killing the Earth: Priceless

:D

Dude,

It appears you've been here long enough to have placed this in the Political Forum...the enviro nuts have already shown their thoughts.

Mine are that i am not a Hummer owner, but I am considering the new 2009 H3T, alpha. Hummer truck with nice V-8 power. Looks pretty sweet:D

Don't pay attention to the haters, they probably don't have jobs and mom and dad fund their gas money and liberal arts educations.:p

If it floats your boat, go for it!

If you want an all terrain vehicle, get a Land Rover Defender. If you don't get a car that gets more than 15 mpg and feel better about yourself :)

Getting a hummer in the UK would ostracise you from just about everyone, you'd also get the general public holding out their little fingers at you as you trundle past

Land Rovers are good off-road cars but they fail constantly. My dad had a Defender pickup and he hated it big time, it gave him problems in an almost monthly basis, something unbearable for someone who has a sugar cane plantation. He now uses a 88' Toyota Land Cruiser with custom suspension and engine, unbeatable off-road car hehe.

As for the Hummer, apart from its aesthetics there is not much to it, I've been in one and it was a wider version of my moms old Ford Explorer, they use the same radio and electronic stuff, same seats and everything. But man they look cool :D
