You can try to ask for a credit but I doubt it. Migration fees are different. If you have an old Classic plan and you want to switch to the new Value plans I've seen instances where they pay for your migration fees.

When T-mobile had classic plans - discounted phones and 2 year contract they would spend to bring in customers. I am not sure with the new value plans and no contract, if they would still risk spending so much money to bring new customers.

They're not and they were offering the iPhone for $0 down if you switched but paying your ETF is pushing it. They don't need new customers that bad. People haven't realized that carriers for the most part could care less if you left them these days.

I went to the store today and its a no go on paying ETFs. I did find out that I get a 15% discount through work though. I'll just suck it up and pay my Verizon ETF and switch at the end of the month. I'll save so much money with T-Mobile it'll be worth it.

Why do they need to run a credit check if you buy the phone outright. The rep was asking for my SSN through email for this credit check. I don't give that to anyone unless I know them or I'm in that corporate setting. Seems fishy to me. Sorry for having my doubts.

I am currently a tmobile employee and this is against company policy. I'm glad to hear you did not do this.

shanmugan is full of ****.
Don't give anyone your info, especially your SSN.

Good scam though, unfortunately some idiots need to be reminded how dumb this is.

Since you called me out.

Just to give u status, I did all the transfer and everything and all is good. Just waiting for ETF to be posted to my account.

t-mobile will need your license number to port over the number, credit check for account opening. go figure! Also you are not giving the SSN to me, to t-mobile rep, just to be clear.

My ETF posted today.

Essentially moved from $120 for two iPhones to $93 for two iPhones (never used more than 1GB data anyway). sometimes miss the ATT LTE but you cannot have everything :p and both the iPhones are unlocked. Hope ATT relaxes unlock policy, i started mainly this for unlocking iPhones.

now waiting for t-mobile LTE @ Portland, OR :D

Will try to get replacement of iPhone 5 with apple again. May be I will get unlocked iPhone 5 to replace the iPhone 4S and at the mean time ask them nicely again

Looking at also doing this. My etf right now is around 155. Have a 4s on att and was thinking o giving tmobile a try since I haven't heard anything bad about them. That and I'd like to save 20/month. I pay 93 for 450 minutes, unlimited text, and 3gb data. 70 for unlimited everything in tmobile sounds awesome.

How is service in richmond, va if there are any other users from there?

Anyone else got tmobile paid ETF? I want to have 4 lines switch to T-mobile as well and need to pay $500 ETF fee. I dont expect to have all paid but wonder if I can get some credit.

Nope. They won't give you a dime. There's no incentive to. Before when they had contracts, maybe, but no way now. What's to stop you from moving to another carrier a month or two after they pay your ETF?

You haven't heard anything bad about them? I don't think you are looking in the right places, the truth is they have a long way to go to compete with the likes of AT&T as far as service and everything else goes. This is the second time this year that I give Tmobile a try, the first time was horrible I switched back to AT&T after a few days, the second time which just took place isn't going any better. But i've made a high cost commitment and now i'm likely going to stay and suffer until they get their act together. They suffer serious tower/frequency alignment issues specially in the NJ area where i'm testing. You move a few feet and you have LTE, a few feet and you have 4G, a few more feet and you suffer with horrible Edge. My main reason for switching is to save some money, no other reason at all. I really wish them luck, I will they listen to their customer and get their act together soon.

Not true. Got them to pay off my EFT of $600 from AT&T, and then some.

Not true at all. I managed to get them to credit me $1000 for 6 lines I brought over from AT&T.

t-mobile rep who can help with ETF

if anyone interested in switching to t-mobile PM me. I can forward your email to the rep who managed my switch.

t-mobile may help with ETF but not sure if they can do it 100%, like the other poster said, it could be based on how much of the $$$ ETF left.

Hey shanmugam

can I have the info to that t-mobile rep?

I tried to pm you but there are some requirements here that I haven't met and I'm not allowed to pm yet. you can pm me.

thanks very much!

I'd believe it

Not true. Got them to pay off my EFT of $600 from AT&T, and then some.

I don't see why people don't believe it. I don't see a reason why someone like kmichalec would invent something like this...if it didn't happen he woulnd't just make it up.

I'm inclined to believe it. I'm sure they will not just hand you the credit...you need to do some negotiations...remember you are dealing with a corporation. As good as they maybe, their ultimate goal is to make as much money as they can, so they will try to discourage the idea of people expecting credit for ETF. however if you explain to them that in the long run they will make money with you, they ll do it. I remember a friend who had ETF paid by verizon for some other carrier...

so the concept is not totally mysterious....

again I'm inclined to believe it. I don't see why poeple would say it here if it didn't happen...it's not like they are going into the effort just for the fun of it...

I'll give it a try and see what happens...I m bringing a lot of lines to T-mobile
even if they refuse that would not mean the other guys lied, it just means they may have had more flexible or nice reps/managers or that store was desperate for sale or whatever other reasons...this is business a lot of things fluctuate

I can give you an example in the past ATT told me the activation fees are sacred from God inscribed in the bible, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights

and yet after some back and fourth they ended up waiving them it was 5 lines total at $35 per line that 's $175 for something that I think is totally ridiculous

I buy a phone I expect to use it, it's implied....what would I do with it if I refuse to pay activation fees and you don't activate it? it s like someone selling you a laptop without screen...telling this laptop is only $200 but if you want the screen you need to pay another $300...

the point being is a lot of this stuff is non-sense and with a good effort and positive attitude you can manage to get rid of it

Hello shanmugam,
I came upon your post from earlier this year which describes you having a CSR From T-mobile who was willing to waive ETF's for people who switch over to T-Mobile. I am a new user, and so I don't have the ability to PM you, but am hoping you might be able to send me that CSR's contact info??
Thanks so much!

Kevin

most probably you will give them your final ATT bill which contains ETF amount, if at all the credit your account.

Hello,
In reading this thread, I saw you and DJransom were able to get T-Mobile to pay your ETF. I was wondering if you might be able to send me your contact with them?? I don't have the ability to PM you or I would.

Thanks so much,

Kevin

I can vouch for that! Thanks again, djransom... ;)
