That's my point though. Other smart watches aren't selling like hotcakes and now Apple wants to introduce there own and more than likely price it up more than the competition.

These won't sell well for Apple I'm guessing. They would sell a lot more if you could do more with it without having an iPhone. Even open it up to iPad users or something. No one is going to spend $350+ on a phone accessory.

Oh yeah? A lot of analysts are saying that by the end of 2015 Apple will have sold over 30+ million of these Apple Watches, I am included in that number, 2014 only saw like 15 million of the other guys smartwatches so Apple will win this year and the next for wearables.

It is an 'AirPlay' connection between the :apple:Watch and iPhone. Just like AirPly it will be a 'secret sauce' of BT and WiFi that is 100% transparent and completely inaccessible by the user. It will just "invisibly" work.

Just like AirPlay there will be no evidence of any WiFi connection to the end user.

Yeah...

I'm talking more technical.

Really? You can find far nicer, better looking watches that will tell the time for the price of an :apple:Watch. I can't imagine getting the :apple:Watch without owning an iPhone. Unless you just have money to blow for the heck of it.

Agreed. It would be silly/ridiculous to get an Apple watch without owning an iPhone.

Got you, I was referring to normal users. So are you able to hack into AirPlay and determine what type of info Apple is sending over WiFi and what type over BT?

Well, that's the kicker! Apple doesn't necessarily want you to know how the data is being sent between the devices (because in most cases it shouldn't matter) but it is a curiosity of mine to see how the  Watch interacts with devices around it, giving a little more measure its independence in the wireless realm, and in turn gauging its abilities.

Airplay once required a network access point (Wifi!) but sometime around the release of the TV 3, it was updated it to use on BT to set up Wifi-direct connections between devices - I'm more or less curious of if those connections will be created between the  Watch using iPhone to bridge with said device, or actually directly with  Watch and the other device (full circle: could potentially be a Mac to p2p with!).
