Anyone getting bored of Android?(IM NO LONGER BORED)

lol gotta be a troll. I study computer engineering in uni, and while I don't have a job, it's a pretty big workload that can be really harsh at times, I have a few friends that work - one even has a wife and a kid. They still manage to get pretty darn good grades.

Seriously though, if your parents are giving you a new cellphone I wonder why you care if it's on a contract or not. It's funny because Verizon, the most expensive cell carrier in the US, generally pushes contracts - and if you have an android phone, they usually have their logo somewhere prominently on the phone. Therefore, you'd want to be seen as a prestigious Verizon customer, not some prole using MetroPCS or... ugh. Straight Talk.

Really though, who cares? You get a free phone. If you ask your parents for the newest iphone and they get it for you, well they're pretty cool parents. If you demand it, that's pretty rude. 🙁 If you act like your parents were lucky to be graced by the privilege to live with you, and you won't touch a phone that isn't a flagship, and then you go rubbing that all over the faces on everyone in the forum, you're either a troll or a huge jerk.

I never demand it. My grades have to show them reason that yes it jus worth upgrading me, not rubbing it in or trying to brag, in fact I seriously considered just getting a Moto G2 instead of a high end. I also requested a Nexus 4 for my birthday due to the price and I hate the fact that contracts are absolute rip-offs, I do care about upgrading but I don't want to waste money if I can get a good phone at a cheaper price it's just if I wanna experience a new OS I want it to be on a flagship so I have the best representation of the OS and if I make a mistake in my judgement I will be stuck with that phone for two years and I am fine with that.


On a note though, yes I am spoilt due to my parents being very awesome and hardworking, I feel privileged I got my parents, really mean it.

I'm not bored of Android. After using Android for over 3 years, I still try to use my phone as often as I can even if I don't need to.

Someone suggested trying Themer, maybe here or another thread.

I have been messing with it for the last couple of days and really like it. Don't think one can ever get bored with it considering all the options. BTW, I don't root and flash ROMs, changing launcher and themes sufficed but this is even better with the options.

I can understand why some people might get bored with any device or OS. Personally - my phone is a tool and as long as it has the features (hardware or software) that I want and use, the rest is gravy.

I actually got bored with iOS faster. It took only 3 days until I had to jailbreak it. I even bricked it a few times. Back in Summer 2008, the App Store had just opened and iOS (aka iPhone OS back then) was still very limited. When I learned how to jailbreak, I thought iOS was the most amazing thing ever. Then I kept iPhone 4 nonjailbroken and that got boring as well although far less crashing. Winterboard was a RAM hog.

With Android, it feels like any new tinker, launcher, or system app, it adds something fresh. You can learn something new every day. But yes, Android can get boring as well. Any OS or phone after awhile can. Even stock Android is boring. Too vanilla. Too plain. No toppings. No sprinkles. Google hasn't excited me since Jelly Bean. Apple hasn't excited me since iOS4 and that platform peaked in iOS5. I find iOS way too limited and just an app launcher. You can glance at BlinkFeed or My Magazine without opening up any news apps.

I'm looking forward to Karbonn releasing the dual booting Windows Phone and Android. I had a Philippine rebranded phone called Cherry Mobile Flare which was a rebranded Karbonn A9+. I'm hoping one of our local brands here follows suit as Karbonn and gives us dual booting capability. We have multi sim phones already and it would be cool to have multi OSes as well.

I was like you too, when I was in college a couple of years ago. Funny how I no longer get bored or excited with these things. I have 50 widgets available on my phone but I use zero. I have 10s of Roms options but I am using the same ROM for the last three months with no desire to upgrade/change it and yes, it is the plain vanilla android one. You will just move on after a few years too.

The only thing I care about is learning and making apps for all these platforms. My first project: make an offline Evernote alternative for myself. Might release it to play once it is any thing decent though lol.

Perhaps. While 2-3 years is hardly much of an age difference, I do think growing up can change attitudes towards once beloved activities. Both me and my 6 year old brother were crazy about being automotive 'ricers' as I like to call it, which he still is, but I lost that appetite.

Its just that in college you do all the crazy stuff and have time to follow some of these things as well. Plus as you discover new appreciation in life about other things your priorities change.

I still root and put a custom recovery in all my android devices for one reason: nandroid backups. Unless Google brings a full proper backup solution to backup everything, weekly nandroid backup images will do fine.

Id rather root and used xposed than flash roms
but id rather use ART than xposed
so for now I am stock, rooted, art, no xposed

though if I had a touchwiz samsung device, I'd be flashing roms definitely

On screen buttons are easy if you are rooted. Just add qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to your build.prop. And if you don't want hard ware keys, just edit them in the system/app or system/data folder in a file I forgot the name of. Viola, a nexus like device. Too bad the mechanical home button still sticks out and drives me nuts so I don't use soft keys.

I've been stock Samsung rom for the last 9 months or so.

Just this week I decided to flash a custom rom.

I didn't flash roms before because they had many bugs, but after all this time they're finally stable and perfect to be a daily driver.

Just because someone flashes a custom rom it doesn't mean they're doing it every month...

But if you get bored at least you have the chance to flash roms, themes, tweaks, etc. Not like in iOS...

Now I don't feel the urge to sell my SGS3 and upgrade to a newer phone. Stock Android works great right now on my SGS3. It's just like a Nexus or a Moto X. Don't need higher specs than the SGS3, just a more fluid experience, and now I have it.

Themer is just too limiting for me. I like putting anything I want exactly where I want it. I give it a try just to see what it was like and took it off quickly afterwards.

Never said that everyone follows my lead in terms of ROM flashing. I'm running a custom ROM I am no longer bored, rather enjoying again.

Ya. I'm over the customization options of my phone. I just want something that works and works well. I will likely be getting a larger iPhone when it is announced.

Literally this. I was "wowed" by the customizing options of android when I changed to my LG G2. Flashed several roms etc etc. But when that wow factor went out, I ended up with a phone crashing often. Going to iPhone 6 when it releases. I just need something that works well, feels well, and that I don't need to replace in several years. Flashing roms and stuff was cool, but I no longer see the point. Just give me something that works, feels well built, and has a good standby battery time, right now I have to charge my phone each day.
