So, is there any way to show a PowerPoint presentation in "show" mode? I often sit next to clients and show them presentations on my laptop. It would be 100x easier if I could just have my iPad there on a case stand.

I wonder… can you use an iPhone running Keynote Remote to control Keynote running on an iPad?

No, it only works with a Mac unfortunately.

Hopefully we'll see 3rd party docks with an IR sensor so you can use your Apple Remote to control the slides (is that currently possible or would it require a software update?). Or Apple can update Keynote to support control with the Keynote Remote app. Though I'd like an option for Bluetooth or IR; something I don't have to be connected to a WiFi network to use.

Sure, you can just run presentations right on the pad's screen. PP converts over to Keynote pretty well, though some things like links within a pres. don't seem to come through.

I gave up on converting PPT to KeyNotes, especially those with lots of animations and graphics.

I now converted all to PDF format to present without animations, mostly one-on-one across the desk meetings.

I use Goodreader since I love the super-easy ways to transfer files across (i.e. direct Wi-Fi, MobileME, DropBox, etc). However... initially, I had some problem with converting high-graphic files into PDF that Goodreader could display could display. I sent several emails to the developer and never received any reply, but figured out at the end.

I hope KeyNotes will get better, and doesn't require iTunes to transfer files across.

Can anyone tell me how using an ipad is better than something like a macbook air? Yes maybe it's lighter but after that the keynote limitations that are on the ipad seem to negate this. I mean most of the time you are giving presentations you aren't exactly holding a laptop in your hand.

Small-scale presentations

I used the iPad at a Natural Products trade show in London a week ago, and found it superb for presenting photos of the orchids we use to make our products, but in the one-on-one type presentation of a big trade show. It was far better than having a great big screen on the booth, or trying to hold onto a laptop while talking with someone. And having the iPad in your hand, there was the benefit that the interaction with the person I was talking with was able to be more 'intimate' (if one can use such a word to describe chatting with someone at a trade show...!) as it they are drawn closer in to view the images. I had my laptop primed with the photos and the latest OSX and iTunes before receiving the iPad from a colleague who had flown in from Las Vegas the evening before the show began. To my relief, putting the photos onto the iPad was a piece of cake of course. But be sure you don't use images set for CMYK printing..!

I thought it couldn't present in "Show" mode, just editing....

A lot of my slides have 2D animations (one vehicle hitting another, etc.) through PPT. I guess that won't work....:(

I'm giving a presentation tomorrow at Fordham University. I have the Apple composite cable that I've used for my iPhone to connect to the TV. I hooked it up to my iPad and was able to play video although it is very dark. However, when I tried to show photos nothing showed up on screen. What am I doing wrong? Really need some help. Thanks!

I have given a few but my "presentations" are just a few movies I play for my clients. Nothing with keynote yet but am going to test out my workshop presentation with keynote in the next few days to see how it will work

First a disclaimer, I am a Pastor in a liturgical church so we don't have a band, screens or Jesus entertainment.

I've been using it for my manuscript for preaching. It's great on the pulpit, easy to read and control. I've also used it for Bible studies and also to take notes at various meetings. For me the iPad has allowed me to iPreach and more.

Wouldn't Logmein work for presentations? Just log in to your office computer and then play the presentation. ???

Gave my presentation tonight. It went well. I got so e oohs and aahs with some of the effects. I actually changed some of the presentation while i was waiting for my turn. That was fun and quite easy.

I am actually pretty impressed with it as a presentation tool. They need to add in support for presenter notes. They also need to add a timer like in the desktop version and of course some of the other presenter view elements from the Mac version.

Also, I would rather the laser pointer be activated via a button.

Is there any chance someone will come out with an EASY way to show PPT presentation on the iPad or is it so locked down we're stuck with "workarounds"?
:(

Presentation Link - App for interactive presentations on the iPad

We would be thrilled to hear what you think of our newest iPad app called Presentation Link. The app allows you to seamlessly mash pdfs, images, videos and web content into engaging mobile slideshows. You can also find more detailed information on http://www.presentation-link.com.

Presentation Link is a great start, thanks for creating it. I will leave a positive review on iTunes.

Another app that I have been using for customer presentation for almost a year is the 2Screens app. You could even using a companion app to wirelessly control the slides on the iPad with your iPhone.

A lot of past discussion are available, do a search for 2Screens, etc.

I do a fair number of presentations. The one thing holding me back is having the iPad on a wire. Once we have wireless mirroring, using the iPad for presentations with an AppleTV will be what I do. The only thing I have to do then is figure out the presentation... make sure it displays correctly (coming from Power Point).

As far as a "business device," I find that most of my business time on it is done through RDP sessions... so in that sense, it IS a business device, but only because it can act as a dumb terminal to my PC.

Thanks I will give it a try
Me as well. My biggest hold back has been the lack of video integration, and it looks like you solve that. This may seem obvious, but can you import an existing PowerPoint?
Never mind - just saw on your FAQs that you can't. I'll still give it a try

I've used the iPad to present and found it extremely useful. I was actually chairing a whole day of presentations and made the presentation as I went along, just doing 2 slides each to summarise the talks. I even included a few images that I downloaded on the day. Then at the end I gave my 'summary' using the presentation I had made. A MacBook Air costs twice as much and wouldn't have lasted the day so overall I was very impressed with the iPad's capabilities!! :)

I use keynote heaps to do presentations through the smart board for my students in a primary school setting. They love it and I don't have to spend half the lesson drawing on the board. Presenter notes aren't really an issue in this case because our discussions aren't rigidly set.
