I wonder… can you use an iPhone running Keynote Remote to control Keynote running on an iPad?

Yes...to an extent.....using the iPhone Keynote Remote App to control an iPad Keynote presentation works as long as you have WiFi available. It is supposed to work with a bluetooth connection..but..it will not connect. Other threads have suggested a Rube Goldberg work around using a different app to make the connection and leaving that app running in the background. The work around is so involved that I've never been able to do it, but others have.

It mystifies me why Apple doesn't fix it since it involves two pieces of their hardware, Keynote, and the Keynote remote app and it worked in lower versions of both hardware and software.

Some have asked why it is not such a good plan to use the iPhone (IPod Touch) with the remote app. The way it works you have to continually look down at your iPhone to advance slides. It looks bad and takes your focus (and the viewers) away from the presentation. The audience is not even aware of the use of the Apple (or other) IR remote.

I find Apple's continual discontinuing of both hardware and software functions to be annoying. I'm not against progress, but anyone who thinks iCloud is better than MobileMe at this point in time is on another planet. The removal of optical disks, hard drives, the changes in versions of OS X and iOS that enable and disable functions, the addition and removal of Firewire ports, and IR sensors all contribute to user confusion and Apple fails to make the stuff work.

Pretty soon consumers are going to revolt on the Apple craze when they literally have to buy components to plug into the computer to accomplish their tasks. Anybody who has an Apple ID that is different from the required different ID that they got with MobileMe (that's all MobileMe customers) will have serious problems when they migrate to iCloud because that MobileMe ID is the default. I've spent hours on the phone and in Apple stores trying to use all the e-mail addresses I had in Mobile Me and yet preserve the ability to use the ID I used with iTunes to buy things so I can do all the things that includes. Nobody in Apple can actually fix all my issues at the same time because Apple chose not to allow merging of ID's.

I left Windows to get the simplicity, quality, and interconnectivity of Apple products. That no longer exists with my current family of Apple hardware and software. It's a shame.

i have given presentations and used it in class. it works really well, and with the ability to mirror, notetaking is really nice. much more enjoyable than writing on the blackboard/whiteboard and you can face the class.

my only complaint about the presentation, as others mentioned, is the need to be connected by a wire. someday, i would like to be able to walk around with the ipad, use the mirror function, and have that project.

of course, this isn't possible with the computer either, so it might be a while before we get this.

i have used the iPad and the VGA Connector probably 100 times for a few different presentations. I always set it up to display the presenter notes on the iPad while the projector shows the slides. It works great and I have have even used my iPhone as the remote a few times and that worked amazing too! There was more operator error issues getting things set up but once I fooled with it at home it its a breeze. Sure beats hauling my laptop around

I've used Keynote since it first came out. (Still have the box I got at Moscone.) I have little experience with PP.

I've done a few presentations with Keynote and a projector. It works fine. It would be nice to have the presenter display, but I can get by without it.

Whether using an iPad or a laptop it is always important to check out the display and the cable ahead of time. Sometimes there are problems with either that you don't expect. Especially with older displays and older cables.

(My pet pieve is when I visit a site and they say they have a projector we can use. When we hook it up we find that it is a really old projector with 800x600 resolution and bulb that is so dark it is nearly dead.)

Keynote on the iPad is not as full featured as it is on Mac OS X. The newest version is much better. I suspect that it will get better over time.

As others have mentioned I find that I do a lot of one-on-one presentations just using the iPad with no projector. I use Keynote, videos and PDFs. Photos are good but I usually preselect them and use them in Keynote or PDFs.
