Sorry replying the old thread. But, is the case still mandatory, given the back and front glass (in 11 & 12) are now stronger (according to Apple and some drop tests in YouTube)?

Whether Apple claim the glass is tougher or not, I think you’d still be very lucky for it to survive a drop with no damage. I wouldn’t even think twice about putting a case on an iPhone and certainly don’t conform to the notion of paying Apple for additional expensive insurance policies.

How are your screens holding up? I heard the new screen is more shatter resistant but easier to scratch, and it's just my luck that my 12 mini now has a scratch on it when that was never the case with previous iPhones. I never put keys or anything else in the pocket where I keep my phone, either.

Never have and never will use cases. I think you destroy the experience with the phone.
I have no idea what sort of experience I am missing by using a case but it’s all subjective. I personally prefer the feel of the iPhone with a case and prefer the look. It also doesn’t break when I drop it, but we are all different I suppose.

I went with a Pitaka case and ... wow. I love the almost nekkid feeling - and it is not slippery like using the phone without a case. Been doing this for a few months - liked it so much I had to get one for my iPad. lol. While I'm pro nekkid - they're just too slippery to use without something.

Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm not planning on putting a case on the upcoming 13 Pro when it arrives.

I've had an iPhone 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S (since 2016) never used a case, never broken a screen.

I'm an active person too, so I'm kind of surprised at myself to be honest. My wife broke her iPhone SE which was bought at the same time as my 6S which was always in a case 5 times, she broke it so badly I had to buy her a new iPhone.

Meanwhile my 6S just keeps chugging along. The battery life is horrendous now but it's running great. Looking forward to upgrading this year.

The only things I've done is to always put it in the same pocket in the same orientation, never with keys.

I am also considering pitaka, instead of caseless. I really like the feels of caseless. It feels tougher compared to previous iPhone.

I view screen protectors as essential to protect against scratches.

My phones go naked at the beach because sand and cases don't mix well. You can almost always safely get sand on your bare phone and blow or shake it off safely. But get sand on a cased phone, if you trap a grain between the case and the phone it can do a lot of damage. And sand doesn't shake as easily off grippy cases.

They're also often caseless indoors. This is a mixed risk environment. Since my rambunctious dog has passed away and the kids are now teens, I'm having fewer mishaps indoors so it's safer to go caseless. I just have to mind my own butterfingers.

Cases are essential for transport in pockets, bags and in pockets in the car.

But time out of cases is important so I can keep the phone clean and check for abrasive grit or stuff like lotion or hand sanitizer caught in the crevices between the case and phone that can ruin the finish. So I've gotten away from cases that are hard to remove and put on.

I’ve been using a Caudabe Lucid Clear case for a month or two and love how thin it is. It almost feels like I don’t have a case in. I have 2 kids under 10, so a case and screen protector is essential for me, and plus I have a physical job which would smash my phone without a case and screen protector.

I’m not going to use a screen protector, but I’m going to use a case. I feel that a case is more important than a screen protector.

Has anyone had the top edge of your new 12 pro max begin to scuff I just noticed on my pacific blue the top edges on both sides are scuffed I’ve never dropped my phone. Interesting.

Why wouldn’t you use a screen protector incidentally? I’m always curious why people are against using them considering they feel absolutely no different to the actual screen underneath. You can’t even see the screen protector on my iPhone 12 as it’s flush with the case. What are your reasons?

I use apple silicon case most of the time because I think my phone is so slippery. Some time I use it without a case but only at home. It’s a great feeling to use this phone without a case, it’s really premium feel to it

Im using a skin now and matte tempered glass
