A lot of good my case has done ... never dropped it either. Not sure how this happened to my 12.

Some actually say the case traps the debris/dust between the case and the phone, and constantly rubbing it, causing these situations.

I use a Figura+Pop case. Love the integrated popsocket. Really useful when taking pictures/videos and I have a desk mount, car mount, and popsocket wireless charger so it’s like a lil ecosystem

Good choice! But a couple tips:

•If you wear khakis/shorts/basketball shorts/PJs with those large pocket openings: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU SIT DOWN OR STAND UP! Even phones with cases can fly out. Last thing you want is for it to fly out because you forgot you had it in your pocket

•Never EVER rest your iPhone on your lap while you’re sitting in your car or sitting down in general because it’s guaranteed you’ll forget, get out and send it flying on asphalt.

•NEVER put it in a front shirt pocket, probably one of the worst decisions ever lmao

•During cold climates make sure your hands aren’t too dry because normally our hands can grip the stainless steel like glue. That’s my favorite thing about the SS band iPhones.

Also, you will get scratches, it is inevitable. But it’ll give it character and make it YOUR phone. Plus, after the first scratch you will care a lot less about stuff like that. You won’t really take a hit on resale unless your screen or back glass is cracked.

Good luck and enjoy!!

UPDATE... lmao: For the first time EVER--and I've owned every iPhone since the original in 2007--I have managed to drop my iPhone on accident and shatter the back panel. No AppleCare either. Completely my fault.

I was desperate and looked at third party shops and fix it shops, online kits, etc to save some money... but the work always looks shoddy and off. I gritted my teeth, sucked it up and paid Apple $600 for a replacement. Ouch, that one hurt. But at least I get a brand new mint iPhone with a new pristine screen and brand new battery from Apple. Still... paying $600+ unexpectedly hurt.

So, guess who's part of the screen protector + case crew now? 😂😢

Going caseless is kinda nice. I'm usually very careful aaand I have the money to replace my 12 mini... But I'm not taking a single chance. I need to avoid yet another purchase like this and have things go right.

'Death by a thousand transactions' is the enemy of those trying to build a nest egg when you're renting a room in your stepdad's house. Buy a drop case with a comfortable feel and you're good. 😁

Really sorry for you. I’m still naked with my 12 mini and AC+ : the biggest problems are concrete, asphalt, cobblestone and similar. One drop on these surfaces it’s enough for a big damage. And that’s the reason why, sometimes, I put back a case. But also a light and slim case bore me after few times 😬

I’m not a dropper but want to be able to put my phone down anywhere without scratching the cameras, so use a leather case, don’t care about the sides or back.
Don’t like screen scratches so use a GSP.

The figura isn’t a particularly protective case. Basically a thin layer of tpu. But having the PopSocket gives me a bit more control so I suppose it’s a decent trade off. Never thought I’d like PopSockets. Always poopoo’d them. But once I tried one that’s integrated in the case...fell in love.

I used to go caseless but having 2 kids changed that lol.

Also, I literally broke the front glass on my Xs max yesterday with a thin case… so be careful with these thin cases with minimal lip on the front. They feel great but don’t really offer much protection.

I found a shop that will replace the screen for $120. Not terrible I guess.

Trust me naked is the best. No screen protector, no case--absolutely the best. But I'm not a phone dropper and I take very good care of my stuff but even I had an accident even if it took like 13 years lol. The non-AC+ price of replacement was brutal though. I thought maybe since it was the back and not that front I'd be alright but I was shocked that they had to basically replace the entire phone. Oh well, ya live and ya learn. I'll just uses cases now because that was an annoying inconvenience that weekend.

I think it’s all subjective in terms of what is best. Some prefer the feel of the phone in a case, I know I do. Then there are people that don’t and are super careful but personally I couldn’t be that OCD over my phone or I’d be panicking every time I put the thing down. I also drop my iPhone fairly often.

I really would love to go naked. But, like yesterday, my friend and I took a drive on the 39 up this mountain and at the top you get a really great view of the valley below (I'm not one for heights) and my hands started sweating like crazy. Nasty, I know... but, there would have been no way to take photos had I not had a case on it. lol.

I am horrible at photography but that's really high up and past those shrubs is a good drop.

I drive a Civic so this was a real treat (my friend's car) of a trip :).

Been caseless on every iPhone I’ve had since the 5S and yesterday I finally managed to do what I’ve never managed before; dropped my 12 Pro Max straight on to concrete and smashed the back glass.

24 hours later and it’s now wrapped in an Apple Leather case while I weigh up my options of what to do next, most of which involve crying 😭

I would love to go caseless and envy those that are comfortable doing so. I don’t drop my phones often but still not comfortable without a case.

I laugh at people that have the silicone case for their iPods case. But yesterday, when I got in my car, my iPods Pro went flying. Case bounced and the earbuds bounced and splayed out over my cement garage floor. Thankfully, they still work and only the case shows some damage but also still charges.

I use my Mini careless most of the time, but I do use a screen protector on the front and a rear protector (basically a screen protector for the back). They probably don't do much, but aren't really noticeable.

I used to run with a case because I never had AppleCare. After managing to break my X's screen I don't want to get stuck with another expensive repair...

Does anyone else feel like they are more careless with a case?

i used to go naked and once I got a case I started to drop my phone..

I guess since I’m more aware of it naked and take more caution.

For me it is not the case (pardon the pun) for going either way. I got the 12Pro in Gold to match my SS6 Gold watch, I have mild arthritis in my hands and wanted a case that showed the gold but gave me the grip I needed to insure I didn't let it slip and fall. Got a clear case with soft material which is easy for me to hold.

What case did you go with, if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry replying the old thread. But, is the case still mandatory, given the back and front glass (in 11 & 12) are now stronger (according to Apple and some drop tests in YouTube)?

You never really "needed" a case. I have one because the phone is so darn slippery
