Below I have copied a listing from the Knoxville, TN Craigslist,
Computers-Tech, with a date of 4/09/08. 98 % of these listings
have a local location, mainly Knoxville, this one has nothing which indicates it's not local.

Does this look like the original listing this thread is all about ? Note the price $1,100 for a "sealed" Pro. To me this has scam written all over it, I'm just wondering if it matches the original subject listing?

Hi,

Did you mean that you received an email saying that the auction is still going on, or when it ended and you clicked refresh that the auction was still going on? Or did the seller give you a second chance offer?

My concern is that in the first situation, the scammer (if it is true) could have created a link and page that resembles ebay, asking you to give your passwords for ebay and possibly paypal. They would then have your passwords.

I hope that is not the case, but I'm not sure what you meant in your post.

Basically i just refreshed the page and it said the auction still had time left it was weird and i did think at the time somethings not right i can't see how they managed to do this though? And how basically two auctions merged into one??

To check if the auction was indeed legit, maybe you can copy the number of the auction, go to www.ebay.com directly, and paste the auction number.

I've seen many scams where the number doesn't even exist.

If for some reason the auction doesn't exist, I would start contacting ebay and/or paypal to check on your passwords or if there was any intrusive behavior.

Good Luck!

Don't buy anything from websbestdeals on ebay, they scammed me into buying a used item listed as new.

Why the 10 days wait before filing a dispute and another 10 days to wait for seller to respond then?

This whole episode (and others) proves the old adage: "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Yes, this sounds harsh, but really.... In the long run, wouldn't anyone be better off by taking a little extra time to save the extra money needed to go to the Apple store or a legitimate reseller and buy a new MBP or other Apple product?

Except in this case.. the guy with less money lost out on that money, and gained nothing in return.

I got scammed on an Adobe Master Collection, and so far I have gotten 556.13 of the 900.00 I spent on it back. I will be seeking a remedy from my credit card company for the remainder as I went through PayPal & my business Credit Card. Royal PITA though. Hang in there. & By all meams sue the prick if you can, as you deposited straight to the account if I remember correctly.

Yes, and I'm sorry for the OP, I also see where s/he really was not all that wise with the money that s/he had to spend. In my situation, the money that I paid on the items listed in my signature file was spent in a way that I knew was more safe and secure than gambling away funds on some eBay purchase in the vain hope that I could save some money....with my purchases at legitimate retail stores I had manufacturer warranties, extended warranties, etc., in addition. You don't get that with an eBay purchase.....

Maybe it was a gamble. It's too bad good people can't buy and sell on ebay. I sure have lost trust in ebay and paypal.

Craigslist scam

I have a guitar on the local craigslist for sale, and I received the following e-mail from someone named Nikki Walter:
"Hello,
Glad to read from you.... I'm really interested in the item but i'm so sorry as i won't be able to come for a look as i'm the busy type. Well, i'll keep in touch with my financier to mail a check for the amount you're requesting for the item and will have a shipping company to come for the pick up as soon as you confirm to me that you receive the check and it clears your bank. If this arrangement is acceptable, pls get back to me with your name as it will appear on the check and your contact address that the check will be mail to along with your cell #. Get back as soon as possible,
Thanks."
This is a classic scam! If you are ever involved in an online sale and get this type of response, run away from it! FYI...

Replying to Som re: Websbestdeals on Ebay

<Deleted comment>....and btw, I was the one that won dispute, not the seller.

An expensive lesson. Can you explain, so others don't make the same mistake, WHY you'd send such a HUGE amount of money to someone you don't know for a product you haven't received yet?

Think of it this way: If it had been the other way around and you were an ebay seller, would you send your MBP to someone who hasn't sent you the money yet? I don't think so.

I guess you must be really rich to just waste money like this :p

if he's rich he would buy a new one

We resolved issue. Customer was upset with PayPal claim results. We went above PayPal policy and refunded the customer with requiring the refund.

Glad to see that websbestdeals came through.

I have bought second hand laptops several times, and my personal rule is that I only buy where I can go in person to inspect before paying, and do the pickup myself.

Also I hear that Amazon has more strict policies on refunds and customer satisfaction, so it may be worth going through Amazon next time.

I just bought something via Amazon from a third party, and was sent the wrong item, and today I got a refund no problems.

hey matrix. Just want to wish you the best of luck. I hope you 50 x check everything from now on. I have been scammed before (not through ebay and for only about $20 but still) and it is not a nice feeling. I hope the dishonest prick gets what he deserves. I believe in karma and i bet it will kick his ass :D Get your money back and sleep well.

Hello, Ebay has cheated me too.
I have payed 254 euros for a computer in January 2017, and ten days after I received an EMPTY BOX. Ma claim on the site Ebay was refused with explications that "Ebaiy is ONLY A PLATFORM WHO HURLS TOGETHER THE SELLER AND THE BUYER". Ebay proposed to me to demand the seller (RUEBENFRITZ) and the post company (GLS General Logistics Systems) to solve the problem.
I have all the documents that prove it. If you have any question welcome: ebay.is.cheater.shame@gmail.com. Anna.

Hi Anna

I'm no Ebay expert but this seems like standard procedure in any complaint procedure. You'll have to follow the Ebay procedure, which at this time, seems to be saying you must contact the seller and the post company and ask for their side. It seems you've already contacted the seller, however Ebay doesn't seem aware of this. So try to to contact the seller again, through the ebay interface / complaints interface. Lay out your issue calmly and briefly. Same for the post company. If you can't contact the post company through the ebay interface (hopefully you can) then email their complaints dept and try to send or cc a copy to ebay.

Ebay is famous for supporting buyers (sometimes excessively so) against sellers so keep calm, record everything, use emails not phone calls, follow Ebay's procedures, and you have a high chance of being OK.

EDIT The post company may have a record of the parcel weight, so if it arrived empty and didn't have a brick in it or something, then that supports your story.

EDIT2 It seems your dispute is with the seller, not Ebay. It's the seller who has broken Ebay's rules and stolen your money. So you might want to reconsider calling Ebay a cheater, in the interests of persuading Ebay to compensate you.

I followed Ebay procedure: I opened the debate sur Ebay the 16th January, I wrote to the seller via Ebay, the selles responded the 19th January (see photo).

Besides, the 17th January I contacted the post company GLS (General Logistics Systems): I came to their office and left my lettre. They put their seal on the copy of the lettre (see photo), but they have not replied.

From the 28th January till the 16th February almost every day I tried to ask Ebay to get involved in the dispute, but there was constantly a technical error (see photo). Because of that I sent a certified mail to Ebay (see photo) and Ebay responded me that they take no responsibility ("eBay ne saura en revanche être tenu pour responsable dans cette affaire : nous vous rappelons que nous sommes seulement une plateforme de mise en relation de vendeurs et d'acheteurs").

I can see it's very frustrating.

The core issue seems to be that the postal company recorded the box weighting 3KG. But you (your father) received an empty box.

Clearly something's gone wrong in the delivery process. I would question your father more. Was the box actually empty when he received it? Nothing in it, not even a brick or stones to make it weight 3KG? How did the box look when he received it? Did it look like it had been opened then re-sealed? Was it just a plain cardboard box or were there other empty boxes inside?

You've made a police report so that is something. Unfortunately your biggest problem is that your father accepted delivery of a big heavy boxed computer, and signed a delivery certificate saying that it was fine, and did not notice that it was a light empty box. That will make your case much harder to win compensation.

You may be able to create a statement from your father describing exactly what happened, how the box was delivered, was the driver in a rush, how your father didn't get a chance to check the weight of the box etc.

Good luck.

This is what u risk when buying a Mac or anything premium off eBay..... I would have used Paypal, least that way your have buyers protection... I used that when a scum didn't give me my iTunes voucher codes....used Paypal, and opened a dispute..

I got my money back.

If u just used bank transfer. then then the solution is left between u and the bank...There is no guarantee ...
