1 day earlier.... Can't wait...
Overload!!!! Pleasure Overload!!!! :D

I'm pretty happy with how the color looks on here. I think I've become somewhat color-def over the years of crappy displays both at work and at home. This is already so good, how could it possibly get any better?

I absolutely LOVE this machine and I can't wait for everyone to get theirs.

Update!!!:cool::rolleyes:

I'm still heavily debating on if I want to get the 17" hi res led version, I just cant get over the fact that if I sell my current SR 2.4ghz mbp, I'd be losing $500 + spending extra $1100 (I can probably sell the sr mbp for $1800 - the $500 I paid for original price 5 months ago + the additional $1100 for the 17" which costs $2900 total..

I think I'll just wait.. man but you guys enjoy it!!

Received the mpb today! the led screen is alot better then the older screen. more brighter etc... it also feel like the outershell of the laptop feels a little different anyone else notice this?

It does feel different from my Powerbook. The bottom half also appears ever so slightly thicker when open. However when closed the thickness is the same I guess some where between my ancient Powerbook and my current MBP Apple filled the small gap between the screen and keyboard when closed...

scott9s: when did you place your order? i was hoping mine would ship a couple days early (like tomorrow or monday).

here's my status:

Ships by: Mar 18 - Mar 21
Delivers by: Mar 20 - Mar 26

i sold my mbp 15" thinking i'd be able to grab one of these in an apple store, but i don't think they are stocking them at all, as no one has yet to get them. i went ahead and ordered it just in case, which looks like the smart decision.

ciao,
mike.

has anyone else noticed that if you go in to the apple store using an EPP account the ship date is a week longer then if you're paying full price? i just configured this through the regular store:

Ships by: Mar 14 - Mar 18
Delivers by: Mar 18 - Mar 24

that ships almost immediately. hell, if i would of known that, i wouldn't of done the EPP. what a joke, get a discount, wait a week longer for your product...

Interesting note...glad to know how they treat their corporate partners

yeah, i've been less then pleased. when i called to inquire about the differences in dates, the lady i talked to basically said the allotment for EPP vs consumer is different therefore different shipping dates. i asked where it says that on the EULA i have to agree to when i go into my EPP store and she couldn't find it. nor could she answer why they don't limit quantities for EPP in the actual store. i asked her if it's possible for me to go into a store and be denied an item if they have the item in the store b/c i'm epp and there was dead silence.

personally, i think it sucks. they should at least have a disclaimer saying if you order through the epp store, it's X amount of days longer then if you order through consumer, so you can at least then decide if the wait is worth the extra $$$. in my case, loss of productivity would of been worth the money saved going through epp. apparently, this is the same for education sales. ie. if you get a discount, go to the back of the line until we feel like shipping you an item even if we can have it sooner.

and so i wait...

Here's my stats.

Ordered March 3rd.
Ships by: Mar 12 - Mar 17
Delivers by: Mar 14 - Mar 20

Status As of March 13, Still Not Yet Shipped.

I actually went to my local Apple Store, they had a 17" HI RES MBP Matte Penryn in stock. However, it had the 2.6 Processor, and I did not want to spend the $250 for the upgrade. I figured I could use that money on RAM and a computer bag.

I kept calling to see if they'd get the 2.5 in stock. They kept telling me to call back. Finally, I went into the store March 3, and talked to an experienced Employee. The Apple Employee told me that the only stock they'd get was what is on the cards next to the machines on the sales floor. The three Apple Stores I've gone to all had the Hi-end machines with 2.6" Hi Res, but no 17" 2.5 Hi Res. So, I realized I had to order online.

If I had known this earlier, I would have ordered the day the came out.

I keep thinking. By waiting a few days, they'll get through some of the production issues.

I'd rather have a mint condition perfect Mac Book Pro arrive March 20, than a MBP that I have to return due to production issues that arrives a day early.

Crossing My fingers. It hasn't stopped me from refreshing my status page multiple times a day.

As of March 3rd, I looked at ship dates for Consumer website, Faculty Academic website, and my wife's Company's Corporate Discount, and they all had the same shipping dates. Also, when I went into the store to buy, they were willing to give me the discounts no problem assuming it was in stock.

So, I'm surprised at your findings mmalto

Man what state and city are you from?? I've been checking here in Houston Texas for the past week straight calling 3 times a day at 2 different apple store and they still both dont have any hi res available.

wow, you are definitely lucky if you found one in your retail apple store. i've been calling not only the 4 apple stores in atlanta over the past 2 1/2 weeks, but also the new york, chicago and la stores, as i figured when they start carrying them in the store, there's a likely chance the atlanta store will also carry them. esp the 5th avenue store in ny, they are open 24/7, so i can call them when i get to work. the soho store opens at 9, and then i typically start calling the atlanta stores at 10. i have yet to have ANY retail store tell me they've received them. i was thinking they might since the online consumer store now shows shorter wait times before shipping. as of this morning:

consumer online store:
Ships by: Mar 17 - Mar 19
Delivers by: Mar 19 - Mar 25

epp online store:
Ships by: Mar 25 - Mar 28
Delivers by: Mar 27 - Apr 3

education online store:
Ships by: Mar 25 - Mar 28
Delivers by: Mar 27 - Apr 3

business store:
Ships by: Mar 25 - Mar 28
Delivers by: Mar 27 - Apr 3

i wonder if any of the local colleges that sell mac got these in? maybe i'll call the UGA and GA Tech bookstores this morning and see if they have any. i don't mind paying the extra for the proc, i just need the laptop. i made a mistake selling my 15" thinking this really would be easier to find in the stores. mistake #1. mistake #2 was not ordering off the retail store.

ciao,
mike.

Me I'm in the Chicago Area.

The Apple Store Deer Park, IL had a 17" Hi-res MBP on Feb 29. That's when I was debating it. When, I went back on March 2 to buy it, they were out of stock.

That's when I started calling and calling the Chicago Stores. At the time, I did not know it was just a 2.6 processor that was stocked, and I talked to some more people, and that's when I decided the 2.6 is not worth it.

I'm glad I'm ordered online. When my MBP arrives, I plan on going back to the Apple Store to buy some accessories, because the online education store and business store do not apply the education discount to all the accessories (extra power brick, etc..), but in the store they do.

I know forsure that the 17" hi res models, that apple only stock the highest models the 2.6ghz only. Its the same as the SR mbp 17" high res as well. They will never stock the 2.5 of the 17" high res.

I think I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering from macmall.com, they said either glossy or matte could ship 5-7 days and will get mine next week. I've ordered 17" hi res SR mbp, 15" SR mbp, mac pro and a bunch of ram from them and was very pleased.

The problem with me is that I love both of them glossy or matte. I dont mind the glare and I'm the kind that even outside or behind the window I dont pay attention or even notice the glare, doesnt bother me one teeny bit. But I do love looking at pictures on the matte, just looks so clean and yet I do love reading text and webpages on the glossy, it makes it look more saturated and easier on the eyes.. But for some reason the matte always looked a bit brighter than the glossy. The glossy screens look a bit dimmer/darker, I dont know why... man its hard to choose.
Now the question is glossy or matte...
