I sure am. I am in college and I often carry my touch to view pdfs and docs in class and also just to aim and stuff while sitting in boring classes.

I also have my phone (razr with at&t). Our contract is up.

I want a iphone but my sister wants a texting phone. At&t's old lineup was garbage and I was just going to go to verizon.

BAM! They heard my complaining and they popped out with the matrix and the quickfire looks beast too.

Plus, we have that corporate fan discount thing and if upgrade my line (it is part of a family plan), I just add 24bucks per month for data.

However, I don't know if this is worth it for 22bucks extra per month when I will rarely need the on-to-go internet. The campus has wifi all over the place.

I'm happy with my iPod touch and Verizon LG env2. Both my devices are on separate schedules, battery-wise, so its nice when one runs out that I can play with the other.

The only plus I can think of to owning an iPhone over my touch is that there would be internet everywhere, but seeing as how I'm on a college campus with wifi everywhere there's no need for my dailiy usage. My friend has an iphone and he doesn't "look down on me" or anything like that. He considers me an equal:cool:.

And my env2 is a thing of beauty. I don't think I've ever handled a phone so tactile and easy to use. And nice to look at to boot.

Well, except for the fact that 2 days ago my end call button stopped working and now I need to warranty it. *Wah-Wah.*

I can resist that generalized statement.

I don't and wouldn't use the internet connection through edge or 3G (would disable it if I could), so the benifit of the iPhone is minimal. I was ecstatic when they said they would produce the iPod Touch as it handles everythingI need. I only wanted an iPhone for the PDA capabilities, something the iPod Touch does for me perfectly.

I'm very envious of people who have less minutes and still pay double my bill BEFORE tax. I guess the good-for-a-phone internet service is worth it or something.

I'm also very envious of the crappy AT&T service compared to my Verizon network. It works in the middle of Maine! AT&T doesn't work all the time in the middle of Philly. But Philly isn't a big city or anything, so whatever.

In addition, I'm very envious of the $200 price. That's an infinite percent mark up over the phone I got free with my plan. Silly me!

I have made the wrong choice :( :(

Will reconsider when and if it comes to Verizon's network. But I'd expect a ridiculous price (Because transmitting data is expensive!), so I'll probably be sticking with my current phone and contract unless I start making $250 grand a year.

Went to San Francisco last weekend, had free WiFi in the airports, hotel, baseball stadium, and even Ghiradelli Square and walking around Fisherman's Wharf. I did some zooming around in Maps in the airport and I had a map of downtown and North of the city cached for reference while I was there. On a typical day I've got WiFi available the majority of the time, and even when I go out it seems that I'm within range of WiFi every couple hours. So, it depends on your use and your environment as to whether or not the iPhone is worth it, I'd try and do a realistic assessment of those two things before deciding if I were you.

Sounds like you have an iPhone...why are you posting in the Touch forums? Maybe you're the one who needs some assurance that you're getting your money's worth...:p

For me, I always have, it is just something that comes along with most of Apple's newly announced products, but usually dies down after a little bit. Right now I am on my family's plan for Verizon and don't have to pay a dime (only a Senior in high school). I'm hoping for a Verizon capable phone within the next year, if so I'll buy it and remain on my family's plan, but chances are there won't be one, so I'll probably end up buying an iPhone (and pay for the plan myself) right before I go off to college (and hopefully by then the next generation iPhone is released).

But the urge of wanting to have an iPhone skyrocketed today as it was the first time that I have actually held one of the new 3Gs, the speed was amazing and made me want it so much more.

I can't have an iPhone. I have Sprint and I'm not willing to give up my awesome cell plan for at&t and be charged 3x as much. I'm sad about it, but will I get over it if I get an iPod touch? Sucks that I have to carry around a cell and an iPod though.

What do you think?

I was in the exact same spot. I have a Mogul on a SERO plan. I bought a touch 2g because I couldn't justify giving up the SERO plan. I love my touch...

BUT - I'll tell you straight, I still want a iPhone. While the touch is a great device, and I use it all the time, I wouldn't miss my Mogul and would love to only carry one device. I have no plans to buy an iphone, and unless they produce them on the Sprint network, I wont ever. I simply don't want to give up my SERO.

I'm just hoping the Android phones make some head way and make it to the Sprint network.

I had the same dilemma but am with tmobile. so instead got an old 1st gen iphone & unlocked it for tmobile. That being said, for the things I use the iphone for, I would easily have been satisfied with an ipod touch + a good cellphone. (Note that the iphone is only a so so cell phone as such - low call volume, bluetooth headset hiccups etc). yes it means carrying 2 devices...but it also means u dont have to lug around a laptop to browse the internet during wifi cafe lunches. I did however recently get a previous gen MBP...so might just sell the iphone & use the laptop & a good flip open cellphone.

That is why Apple considers an iPod touch/iPhone a type of netbook. It's low cost and allows you to surf the net. Flash would be nice, but I can live without it.

My iPod Touch gets about the same level of reception as the iPhone does. 0 bars.

I have the Sanyo S1 with Sprint, so both items fit well in my pocket. Plus, it seeems that there are more places with wi-fi, so no real need for a data plan. Yet.

Hilarious. Even though I could afford the iphone, I'm not a big enough phone talker to justify the monthly outlay. Whereas, I love to listen to music and the ipod touch 2g was a natural upgrade path for me from a 1g nano (which I still use). The touch interface is stunning and the app store is icing on the cake.

Why is it that some iphone owners believe that ipod touch owners are iphone wannabees. lol

For those of us who live in areas where AT&T sucks (most people), the iphone is a complete waste of money. It's that simple. The touch can do 95% of what the iphone can, and costs essentially the same without having to subject yourself to an expensive plan with probably the worst carrier.

I would not mind having an all in one device, but there is no such thing as a device worth going to a poor carrier for. So I'll stick with Verizon (who have their own problems, but service isn't one of them) for my cell needs and the Touch for the rest.

I don't see anything to envy, as is.

I don't know if i will get iphone after my tmobile plan expires next summer, but i surely will get a skype-supported smartphone..

What's Best For You?

It's not a matter of 'better' or 'worse'. There are so many choices of gadgets these days, you have to really sit down and think about how you use all this stuff. If I could, I'd have one of everything because I love gadgets, but...
My current phone plan gives me 400 minutes/month. I use MAYBE 60. I have 200 texts/month. I MAYBE send 25. I hate getting my email on the go - I'll deal with them when I get home on my desktop. I love photography and always carry a great point-&-shoot in my purse, so I don't need a camera phone. My point is, this is my lifestyle, so I just don't need the expensive commitment of an iPhone. However, I use my iPod to DEATH - so the higher capacity Touch is best for me. It's basically got everything that's cool about the iPhone, but without the stuff that I hardly use anyway. Everyone has their own needs - it's just not about 'better' or 'worse'.

And as for AT&T? They suck, plain & simple. Dropped calls (and I don't make that many and the few that I make always drop) and receiving texts late...that's another main reason why I won't get an iPhone. I hate AT&T and can't wait until my contract is up.

Absolutely, I have iphone envy, but not enough to actually spring for one. I'm holding out until it does everything my blackberry can do and more. That and i'm still locked in with Verizon. But I have my ipod touch to keep me satiated.

Oh yeah, its so great. Here you go Apple and AT&T, take MORE money to REMOVE functions that I'm used to like MMS, Copy and Paste, and Voice dialing. I just love giving away money and getting less in return.:p

Nope never. My E71 is the best phone Ive ever had. And with unlimited data and Joikuspot its 2 good to give up for a crippled iPhone that wont let you use bluetooth the way you want or send MMS etc etc...

It sure looks cool tho.

QFT
I had an iPhone but gave it up for an E71 and touch combination due to the poor battery life and other limitations of the iPhone.

The E71 is an amazing phone, and does everything I want from a phone (including skype, MSN, background apps, full unrestricted tethering via Joikuspot and proper syncing with my Car). Also, because it's got it and 3 give you 90 free video minutes a month, I've been doing video calls with my daughter when I'm away on business. Video calling is definitely a nice to have though and I wouldn't dismiss a phone because it doesn't support it...

The only thing the iPhone does better is media and web browsing. With my iPod touch, I get the media and with Joikuspot I can even tether it to my phone to browse the internet if I need to.

No, as I don't want to be locked(owned) into a contract. My mobile is half the size of the iPhone. My touch is great for music and apps etc but don't need them 24/7. Maybe the same could be asked if there are some with touch envy(no contracts)?

My cell contract expires today and I'm switching to an Iphone tomorrow. I have been carrying both my Touch and a cell phone for the last 10 months and I'm ready to move to something else (kinda tired of my old cellphone)

NO, but I have an iPod Touch and an enV phone from Verizon. Quite the duo if you ask me.

I had an iPhone twice. Not anymore. I bought one 1/1/08, cancelled my US Cellular contract and paid my $150 early termination fee. Immediately hated AT&T's service here in central New Hampshire. Dropped calls, no service, calls that would go straight to voice mail... I was fed up quick. After 45 days cancelled the service... paid early termination fee to AT&T... see a pattern here?

I jailbroke the phone and went on T-Mobile... the experience was just as bad. I cancelled with T-Mobile and went back to US Cellular who I have to admit has been fantastic.

I'll get another iPhone when its on Verizon.

I would love an iPhone, but the monthly costs are absurd. If I could get it without the 3g network plan, I wouldn't mind at all. Wifi is still better than 3G.

AT&T could get a boat load of customers if they offered a non-data plan. I'm still on t-mobile.

And I like the look of the first gen iPhone better. Too bad it's all plastic, but I guess they did it for a reason.

^ the first gen iPhone just had an acrylic bottom part. the rest was aluminum. I think you've mistaken it for the 3G. lol

I will be upgrading my first gen touch to an iPhone (hopefully) this december. I think they've ironed out all the wrinkles in the 2.0 software by now. MobileMe is on its way upward as well.

Original poster here. Just wanted to let you all know I got an iPhone. And I'm paying almost 3x my old mobile fees for it. But for all the functions it has, it's worth it.
