Just to add to what others said, after a week with the phone....my typing is back to normal.

Ever since I switched, I noticed I'm missing letters when typing and misspelling words. Think it's because of the larger screen.

Not really an issue, more like I need to get used to it...

Anyone else?

I was having typing problems after switching to iOS 6 on my 4S. i have an iPhone 5 now and I am still having the same problems, so I suspect iOS 6 is the culprit.

Yes, having problems. Chalking it up to muscle memory and the fact that most of the apps are not updated for the new screen. Space bar seems to be my culprit. I noticed my thumb wants to hit near the bottom of the screen but the bar (for apps not updated) is a little above that.

There's definitely a problem with the touch screen. I hope it's software and am 80% sure it is software based.

If you open message to type text and test how far to the edge you can press before the phone thinks you're no longer pressing buttons. You will be surprised the threshold is very bad. On the 4s and 4 (actually all the iPhones before this one) allowed touch response right to the very edge of the display. This phone seems to leave short about 2mm which is making this feel different to typing in the previous versions of iPhone.

Very observant here. I've been having some general frustration that I couldn't quite describe. But now that you said this I notice that frequently when I try to press the "123" button to get punctuation and letters that it all too often does either nothing or seems to press the microphone button instead.

I just did some testing on the "range" of my "123" button and it is very poor! If you press toward the left side of the button so that the "3" is the only part of the button visible (meaning you're still pressing about 75% of it) the button is completely non-responsive! And of course any further to the left is non-responsive as well. To get a response you actually have to be more onto the RIGHT side of the button which causes the microphone to get pushed frequently. It seems to me that this should be setup the OPPOSITE of how it is now. That you should get "credit" for pressing toward the left side of the "123" button instead of the right to prevent you from hitting the microphone constantly.

I've also noticed an odd non-specific issue typing in text-boxes (specifically in web-forums like this, for instance). I'll be typing away and the keyboard will disappear out from under my fingers in the middle of my typing. Almost as if you're pressing "done" or "go" even though I didn't. A few times its disappeared out from under me and caused me to hit the "submit" button on this very forum and caused me to put in incomplete responses to threads that I then have to go edit immediately.

^^^^^^ This;))))

I have an Apple Store appointment tonight. I'll let you guys know if the replacement doesn't have this problem.

This odd behavior coupled with the widespread keyboard image glitch when entering your password in the app store makes me think something is truly amiss with the iPhone 5 keyboard. Personally, I didn't notice anything like this with iOS 6 GM on my iPhone 4.

Thank you. I've been saying this for years and years. The iOS keyboard sucks and hasn't been changed for five years. Not just the keyboard, but the auto correct is atrociously bad. It gave birth to the internet phenom known as "Damn You iPhone Auto Correction."

----------

I think the iOS keyboard has always sucked, but now that the competition is offering far better, more responsive, more reliable, and more intelligent alternatives (Swiftkey is mind-numbingly good), people are finally realizing how short the iOS keyboard falls.

I keep accidentally pressing the d@mn microphone button when switching to number view.

Accuracy is not a problem in my experience.

What I have learned thanks to my various new Samsung Androids, is a larger display, in the range of 4.65" like my Nexus, or 4.8" like my Galaxy S III, provides so much more room in the landscape mode (which has not increased on iP5 vs iP4) that my speed has increased dramatically.

In addition, comfort is increased. Therefore I can compose or respond to emails with incredible speed and enjoyment.

Maybe it's iOS 6? I had some issues typing when I started using the early iOS 6 betas on my 4S, but improved to where I used to be after a few weeks. Maybe they changed something in terms of the keyboard.

Turns out my phone has a defect. The lower left part of the touchscreen has a problem. They replaced my phone and this one seems to be working fine.

Same exact thing happening to me! I keep tapping the black border! Can't want for all apps to update for iPhone 5

Ok good to know I'm not the only one who has issues typing next to the black border and it being unresponsive from pervious iphones.

Im pretty sure this is software as the part of the screen near the borders is responsive from within the photos app. Its just a matter of screen recalibration I feel.... I have tried 10+ iPhone 5's in store and they all have the same issue....

I thought it was just me....I'm having some problems too. However I only have problems when I hold it with 2 hands. Maybe it's because it's thinner so your thumbs have to reach a little further than on the iPhone 4 and 4S?

My typing hasn't been the same either. I'm on an iPhone 5. I think it's the autocorrect that isn't working like it used to.

I did post this a good few days ago and had a few responses.

Got my new iphone 5 on launch day. Ive been pretty happy with it overall. But i've noticed that sometimes i have to double tap an app before it opens, particularly apps on the right hand side of the screen. I cannot notice a pattern as it just happens randomly. Comparing it to the 4s, I never had this issue. Been testing the 5 and wondering if its the way im pressing the screen, meaning inbetween apps... am i tapping inaccurately? I know you can't see the way I'm typing but im not doing it any differently to the way i did with the 4s. Anyone else experiencing this?

Still having the issue also the keyboard too I have noticed the Q,P,A,L Shift, 123, Return and backspace are not 100% accurate. Tested on my 64GB and the wifes 32GB. Our 4s's do not have this problem both updated to Ios6.

I have tested lots of iphone 5's in various shops and they ALL exhibit this same problem of sensitivity around the borders. I would say hold on until they release a few updates, if after this it's still the same, swap it out;)

I still feel that this is a software issue, but I'm most definitely not ruling out a hardware problem...
