I turned everything off except find my iPhone, I rather sync everything the 'old way' on iTunes and just sync/backup whenever I feel necessary. I have 12 gigs of music, don't need to pay for it when I can backup on my computer for free...

If they released the find my iphone app and made it work separately again, I'd delete iCloud completely....

Music isn't backed up via iCloud.

You can use Gmail as an Exchange service on your iPhone. It will push just like iCloud.

I do use iCloud, not for email, but to sync contacts, calendars, photostream, and find my phone.

Hmm... I didn't know that Gmail can be used as an Exchange Service... I'm going to do that when I get my iPhone! :D

Thanks TechieGirl!

I'm not using it because I still have MobileMe, and it's working fine. I don't want to mess everything up by converting it to iCloud. Plus, I still have an iMac with Snow Leopard. And I sync my iPhone to my computer daily anyway, so I have daily backups.

Forgot to mention, I don't have an iPad or buy any music or apps from Apple, so I don't need any between-devices synching. I'm also on Snow Leopard and will not be upgrading to Lion due to software incompatibilities, otherwise I would find Photo Stream useful.

Ok. Never used iCloud and just bought and iphone 5, 64 gig. I currently have a 32 gig iPhone 4, and barely have any space left as I do tons of pics and videos and have over 150 apps.

A friend told me I could have just bought and iPhone 5 with 32 gig and could use iCloud for all my other stuff and wouldn't need the extra space that a 64 gig iPhone would have. Would this be true? I'd assume if I'm accessing iCloud all the time with all those videos and pics that my battery would be toast. Again, I've never used iCloud in the past and not sure how it would help me?

Im not. How is it gonna help me store 55+ gb's of music, pics and data? It wont

I use icloud, and I also back up to itunes. I don't use icloud for my calendar, but do use it for everything else.

What do you all mean that music isn't backed up to icloud? If that's the case, then how the heck am I currently, as we speak, downloading a song from the cloud to my phone?

I was referring to music being stored in the iCloud backup, hence "iCloud does not backup your music" or whatever I said. That is separate from iTunes in the cloud.

Misleading though. Makes it sound like if they aren't backing up their music elsewhere, it is lost.

I have my gmail sync to my iPhone, but I do use iCloud for calendar, contacts, etc. Considering having my email forward to my iPhone but not sure. The recent outage has given me pause on that.

Hello?

LOL I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw someone talking about still using MobileMe...

It seems to me part of the issue is people understanding what iCloud offers, which perhaps Apple should do a better job of highlighting/explaining.

On the Music front, If you have iTunes match anything thats matched to iTunes does not count against your storage space, as it just uses the iTunes store copy. Personally I have over 100gb of music, and iTunes match was able to make it so I only ended uploading about 1gb of music as it was able to match the rest. Unless you have a large amount of unusual music thats not in the iTunes Store you probably will not have to upload much.

On the Syncing front, I use my Corporate Exchange, Gmail (as Exchange - Email Only) and iCloud. I've never had it duplicate things on me or otherwise screw things up. I like having my Personal Calendar on iCloud and work on my corporate exchange, and they both show up on my phone so I don't overbook my self! iCloud also syncs things between iOS devices exchange and others cannot like notes.

At the end of the day iCloud is free, if you are unsure give it a try, you can always turn of the sections you don't use/like or just not use it at all.

Not sure if iCloud being enabled uses more battery, but I have no issues there as I have a plug at my Desk, home and Car if it gets low or I know I will be away from charging for extended period of time coming up I charge it up!

I would love to use it but I can't because my @me.com account isnt my itunes account email... which is annoying as hell. My itunes account is linked to an old gmail account i had years ago which i deleted...

So I cant really use icloud until apple decide to let us merge our accounts or change the apple ID.

I don't use it. As others mentioned, I don't really feel the need to have everything in sync between my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air. I occasionally plug it in and download everything, but the one thing that would be of benefit is the backup of photos, and I take so many photos that it is worthless to backup, because I get the "exceeding 5GB error" and I have no interest in paying for additional storage space from Apple, as I have other sites and storage options I use for my photos.
