1 adapter costs almost as much as 2 new lightning cables. I figured I would just buy a load of new cables and leave my old cables for the iPads.

Can't believe they didn't have these ready for launch. I'm effectively holding off on selling my 4 / buying a 5 until the adapter is out and I can confirm it works for my car, so I wish they'd get these goddamn things in stores.

Reread what I said. I have no problem with them changing the technology. But to not release the entire ecosystem at the same time is simple disrespectful.

I'd say it was unfortunate. Disrespectful implies that Apple intentionally delayed introduction of the adapter. I can't think of a good reason for Apple to hold back the adapters unless the was a technical problem or a production issue. The choice then is do you release the iPhone 5 on time but with out the adapter or do you push the iPhone 5 introduction back 3 or 4 weeks just so you can introduce the adapters at the same time. I'm disappointed the adapters aren't available but I would have been even more disappointed if they anounced that iPhone 5 would be available a month after the event rather than a week.

I know what you mean. I'm mad that these new phones don't have parallel port for my old printers, or a FireWire port. How could you do this Apple!! I dont care about technology advances, i wanna use my cables I bought 10-20 years ago

There really isn't any need for the sarcasm. You fail to realise that for some things the 30 pin adapter is crucial and actually needed. I have a special dock/charger made by Onkyo that connects directly to my Onkyo surround sound amp. It allowed me to dock my iPhone 4 and subsequently iPhone 4S as well as charge them. The connection also allows me to play my media through the amp and TV. I can't currently dock and charge my iPhone 5 due to the different connector until Apple release the adapter. I'm not going to get rid of a perfectly good £80 dock just because I can't connect my iPhone 5 to it. Apple need to release these adapters ASAP.

I can't figure out why the iPhone wasn't delayed but the adapter was.

The iPhone 5 has thunder technology, and I can't begin to imagine why making an adapter is so difficult. Hopefully we get the back story once they are released.

To me, the adapter issue is the biggest .."gate" scandal that's come out of the iPhone 5 launch.

To release a new flagship device with a new connector, without its complete ecosystem of adapters and cables is an insult to Apple's customers. Seriously.

Agree 100%. There may be a technical issue with them working properly. No good reason they werent available on day 1.

I want to use my FN sound dock!!!! It just sits there.......waiting!!!

I ordered a Lightning to USB cable and a Lightning to 30-pin adapter last week. The cable came yesterday, but the 30-pin adapter still has that vague "October" shipping date. I have yet to personally see any evidence that this adapter has even been spotted in the wild yet. Maybe they're having production issues.

I spoke with a rep and they don't even know when the adapter's are going to be released. Apple really should have included the adapter with the iPhone. Highway robbery if you ask me.

Ordered the lightning adapter cable today. Can anyone give me an idea on how quick the sipping has been?

Lightning Adapter-Gate

Some accessories are 30-pin, not USB, so there's no choice there. My iHome speakers, for example.

Yup, it is like that for my car and my Zeppelin Air. Even though the Zeppelin has AirPlay, I prefer to dock my phone must of the time to get some extra charge for my phone in the middle of the day. AirPlay will work for now...

but my car won't... it uses this Nissan proprietary connection shown in the picture below (other end is a 30-Pin connector). I think this connection uses FireWire because it does not charge my phone. So I could be screwed all together, I will have to wait and see.

Ordered 2 of these. Will work with your sync cable until the adapters arrive.

Good catch, I wonder if there is a cheaper version.

That's as much as apples adapter. I wouldn't expect price drops anytime soon.

I think they're doing extensive testing with older accessories to get the best compatibility with the adapter.

That's why we havn't seen it yet, the current version probably doesn't work with most existing accessories.

The only problem with that adapter though, is you still need a lightning cable unless you are going to carry around the one u already have.

So if I wanted it in my car, I would either have to spend $19 on top of the $29, or carry my current lightning cable all the time. either way, annoying.

ADDITIONAL: But it is a great option for in home needs like sound docks and such.

Not sure I understand.

The adapter turns the iPhone 5 lightning input into a old style 30 pin input.
It should work with any accessory that a 4 or 4S uses.
No need to carry around a lightning cable.

error my butt, Apple should give us those adapter for free. I owned too many speaker docks and don't want to waste them.

HENCE THE REASON THEY'RE SELLING THEM @ $29 EACH. damn ridiculous price and they know everyone would need the adaptor instead of a calbe @ $19 each. lighting make sense for the iphone 5 but NOT for the price of the adaptor.

I would rather wait for many other vendors to come out with cheaper version than paying $29 for each... i need like 5 of them.. wouldn't spend $100+ on just these. damn u apple
