probably not a whole lot you can do. you just got sensitive skin. When you say you tried everything...that did include basically soaking the pre-shaved area in warm/hot water for a little bit? and use some after shave gel? and not shave every day but at most 3 times a week?

Yup tried it all... I shave every third day which helps but still left with some rash.

I think im going to give the Philips ARCitec a go.

Did you try to shave in the shower? It's really the only thing I learned on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (show).

Just slap on some aftershave balm right after you use the shaver and it'll reduce it.. also some say shave your neck first then do your face, as the shaver heats up and your neck is more sensitive, apparently.

That's what I do.

The hairs on my neck grow in 40 different directions, so I have to use multiple passes. It pretty much sucks.

I shave one a week because where I work doesn't care nor do I really give a **** about it.

Shaving every other or every 2 days generally results in some epic razor burn.

I use a Gillette Fusion (5+1 blades). Separate blade for the manscaping™

go to a barber shop and have them use that blade thing. From what I heard, it really does work even on people who get razor burn.

Shaved with a blade for years, always had on and off razor burn ... tried Electric Shavers over the years, didn't like them.

Until, about a year ago I got the Philips ARCitec, works great, no burn, close shave won't ever go back to a blade.

Hope that helps.

Well how does Roger Federerererer, Tiger Woods, and that other guy who I cant think of get no razor burn, and never seem to have stumble right after shaving?

I've used both over the course of my shaving life but I always seem to go back to an electric--and my electric of choice is Phillips/Norelco 3-head design which is what I am using now and have been for almost 4 years with the same internal battery--and the charge still generally lasts about 3 weeks. In the past, I have had good and bad luck with battery life but mostly good. I have sometimes gone back to a regular razor when the battery finally does go but I just don't find it convenient enough and it does take longer to shave--at least for me--and the results of the electric are just fine for me.

I used an electric when I was in college, mostly because the sinks in the dorms were nasty. I stopped using them a couple of years afterward, because they didn't really work that well for me. The old "5 o' clock shadow" tended to show up around 1-2pm. Now, I use the Mach 3 or Fusions. I've tried cheaper versions and none of them work as well. I've been using some Schick Quattros I bought a while back, since they were cheaper, and they don't work as well as the Gilletes. It sucks, since those things are terribly expensive.

Lawn mower FTW!

Oh wait, what were we talking about?

To answer OP: Braun is a better choice I choose.

I hate to say it, but I think with the razor burn I'm leaning toward user error.

I use blades (Fusion, formerly Mach 3) and Edge, and I shave my face in the shower - it keeps my face wetter. I don't think I've ever had razor burn, and I haven't used any kind of after shave lotion/splash/whatever since I was about 16.

I do use an electric for shaving elsewhere.

Ressurected thread...

I use a Norelco electric razor and recently discovered it no longer effectively shaved. I thought the blades had gotten dull. Opening it up and emptying the shavings was not enough. Thinking about replacing the heads, I pulled them out and discovered that the heads were wrapped in whiskers. Cleaned each head and its back to shaving like a charm. :):) The key is don't use an electric shaver to try to shave a weeks growth of beard. Daily shaving is required for best results. :p

I tried several electric shavers over the years and I keep coming back to my safety razor, badger brush, shaving soap or cream. For some reason electric shavers irritate my skin.

I also use a Norelco/Philips - best shaver I've owned in 45 years. However, I get the best results after not shaving for a few days, though I've never gone a full week without.

I tried manual razors for years, but never managed to avoid at least a cut or two.

I got annoyed with shaving, so I decided to stop. :p I was using the Norelco as well. If I shaved more than every 3 days I get a horrible rash on my neck. Now I go the trim route. Let the beard grow and just clean the edges. Sometimes that is more work than just shaving.

I'm thinking of switching. Every time I shave with a regular razor I get horrible razor rash! I have tried countless different shave creams, after shaves and razors but nothing seems to stop the razor rash.

I'm hoping that an electric shaver will help with the razor rash. What do you guys think about electronic shavers? are they even worth it?

I used to use the Braun series 5. It was good except for shaving my neck. I upgrade last year to the 7 and it is excellent. No rash, no cuts, a good shave all around.

I only use razor blades with special shaving soap (Speick) and a brush with real animal hair.

For removing hair under armpits and genitals a pocketlighter works wonders. :)
