No. Love Apple products but they’ve priced me out of what would be an entertainment device for me. My Meta3 meets my needs for gaming and VR at 1/4 the price. It’s not as premium but it’s gaming and workout apps are awesome. For those who have a professional application, I could definitely see it. For me? Hard pass.

Not a bad take on it all from a consumer [gaming] perspective.

I thought the rumours say a new M5 AVP was going to be announced today at the iPhone event?

There were no rumors that I know of from the usual suspects, just AVP fans hoping for it. But it wouldn't have made sense for Apple to announce an updated AVP today. What could they have said other than "we now have an AVP with an M5 chip"? If and when the announcement comes, it'll probably be in the form of a press release.

But wasn´t there multiple articles here stating Apple might release an only chip upgrade for the AVP before holidays 2025? Are they going to have another event later this year 2025?

I have a feeling they will do it as a silent refresh like they have done in the past when effectively the same models are re-released just with an improved CPU.

Refresh is almost guaranteed to be a press release only. Given the Vision Pro is a commercial failure, mixing it with iPhone 17 event would drag iPhone down.

The only reason to host an event is if there’s something to show off. A more comfortable strap and a chip swap don’t qualify.

Whether it’s an M4 or M5 doesn’t fundamentally change how Vision Pro will be used. Did MacBook Air M4 change how people fundamentally use it or introduce new apps compared to M2? The VP problems still exists: lack of a killer app, weight/comfort, social acceptance, and cost.

Not if they somehow design a strap that similar to the Google or Meta Quest Pro headset where the pressure is on the forehead and not on the face that might actually work. That alone is a big difference.

I'm not sure what to think at the moment.
If it's "Only" a chip upgrade and nothing else to show off then of course it only need be a press release.

But on the other hand, this is the time of year approaching when people consider large purchases, and perhaps Apple would like to remind the public just what the Vision Pro can do now thanks to all the many updates it's had since it's original launch.

Show off all the abilities, the many apps, and talk about the power increase, and use it to bring the device a little bit more into focus again, and no as though even Apple have forgotten about it.

I feel if it was me, I'd show it off again, as many pay not even be aware of the enhancements.

I still don't get why they don't sell it in other countries where there's a potential market.

Here in Switzerland, they have been selling "imported from the US" since day one. Of course, it is less than ideal, since you do not get Apple support and proper localization. Also, you cannot have corrective lenses made for AVP if you need them.

I would have bought it the very first day and I am still waiting for it to be sold officially here. Apple holds close to 50% of the smartphone market in the country (they have for a long time). I work at a university where also most of the faculty members use a Mac.

So this is an Apple friendly country, where many people have good enough salaries to buy things like the AVP.

It's clear Apple engineers went form over function in terms of strap design. Even if they decide to do a 180, re-take all the marketing photos using the utilitarian strap, trot Tim Cook out wearing the new strap, it does no good. There's no killer app.

What does M4 let you do that an M2 doesn't? Nothing.

We are in the same boat as the iPad Pro vs Mac. The next 10 years will be very interesting

We are, and I truly do not understand why a lot of people can't see it.
Apparently there are no killer apps yet - I would suggest it's the killer hardware thats the issue..............

Q: Would you buy the upcoming Vision Pro?
A: No. I have the first Vision Pro. I love watching movies on it, and it’s a great virtual external monitor for my Mac. But despite excellent software enhancements in recent months, including ones that came with visionOS 26 and visionOS 2.4, I’m not using the device as much as I thought I would. It just doesn’t fit into my workflow, and it’s way too heavy and cumbersome for that to change soon. In other words, I feel like I already lost $3,500 on the first version, and there’s little Apple could do to push me into buying a new one. Perhaps if the model were much lighter or cheaper, but the updated Vision Pro won’t achieve that.

So we have the October event to come....

Any guesses if they will show this new updated model off?
Personally I think they should as it will allow them to re-state their commitment to the product, and to show off (to normal folks) what it can do now, as many may not have seen anything since it's original launch.

Just a press release (whilst it may be all that's technically needed) would, I feel be the wrong move, and just maintain a feeling in normal people's eyes, that it's a forgotten product.

Even if they don't expect a jump in sales, they should show it off.

Agree/disagree?

I’m waiting… until I pick it up in the 22nd. Hope the week-long delay allows Zeiss to deliver my optical inserts in time.
Edit: optical inserts should be delivered on the 21st. Looks like I’m in business for the 22nd.

Upgrade or first AVP? Are the inserts not the same as the original M2?

No one is even buying it in Apple's own country. The handful of billionaires overseas who want one will have no trouble getting it imported.
Besides designing their stuff in California, there's no such thing as "Apple's own country". More than half of Apple's revenue comes from outside of the USA.

If you buy the AVP in a country where it is not officially available, many of Apple service won't work on it. Including Apple TV+, Apple Music... So you need to have an extra Apple account based on a foreign country and potentially have multiple subscriptions to Apple services to get it to work.

As expected, it was a press release launch.

Looking at the new band, it's not surprising Apple decided to forego it with the original launch. It makes the device look more serious and confining. Gurman reported back in 2022/2023 Apple was considering this dual band.

Also interesting to note the hero images no longer include any EyeSight.
