There are several obvious good reasons why someone might have to give up on an iphone.

  1. They lost their job, and couldn't afford the monthly phone bill.
  2. They moved to an area where they got zero AT&T cell coverage.
  3. Or they needed the phone for work and got transferred to a long term job site out of AT&T coverage.
  4. They ended up with serious vision problems, and needed a phone with tactile buttons that they could operate purely by feel.
  5. They needed a particular smart-phone application which wasn't allowed in the App store.

This is my first iPhone, didnt have the first gen or the touch, but I can say this now I will always have an iPhone. Once my 3G gets out dated I will buy the next model etc. I am addicted to it, I haven't had any other smart phones but I have played with BB's and I just dont like them. I have been with ATT forever, used to be houston cellular, then they merged with cingular, and then att. I love my iPhone, and would probably do anything in my power to not have to lose it!

i just recently sold my iPhone 3G...
for a Samsung Omnia.

Although the Omnia doesnt have the worlds easiest to use interface
(GAH! its WinMo for petes sake)

But it does have all of the features of the iPhone at a more enhanced level, albeit a horrible screen resolution.

All-in-all...

I WANT MY iPHONE BACK!
baha.

I'll be ditching the Omnia and running staight back to Apple when the new iPhone is released.

in 6 months...

:eek::(

EDIT: unless of course anyone here thinks i should quickly sell the Omnia and run back now?

had the first iphone loved the thing to death then i got the iphone 3g and just slowly started to get paranoid that i missed so many features that i just got myself a blackberry bold and im happy as hell, background apps, mms, COPY AND PASTE!, i do love and miss my iphone i DO! but every update that mighty apple released just were well sad and disappointing they made a calculator go landscape mode first rather than making sms landscape mode :/ or google street view is more important than sms landscape or forwading or anything else. If anything i will get a ipod touch because that thing is just a toy plus i couldnt unlock the 3g for international purposes that was the biggest downer.

I left my iPhone 2g for a Curve. I then left my Curve for the 3g. I then left the 3g for the Bold and I am quite happy.

A few things I do miss:

Email - It's impeccable for those that got it to work (push). I have a mac/me account and it works flawlessly with syncing.

Sms - Best threaded sms app in existence.

Browser - Like the sms, top notch, nothing compares/

App - Load of them. Free ones as well that are good. No other place has as many useful free apps IMO.

Alarm - On the BB, you can only set one at a time and either for weekdays or all days. This was important as I have a Sun-Thur schedule and work an hour and half earlier on Sundays.

Camera - Excellent in the daytime. I see the difference between my Bold and iPhone when ever I look at the ones I took with either device.

I'm going to stop now because I am going to cry... lol :(

Haven't noticed anyone from the UK saying they've returned their phone.

Sold my iPhone 3G and moved to verizon for the blackberry curve, exchanged it for the storm two weeks ago and just yesterday returned it and went to apple to get an iPhone again :D
Oh yeah, I also tried the omnia for a day. :D

Left O2 to get a BlackBerry Curve (And at Xmas, the Bold).

Reasons?

No push. (FAVOURITE feature on the BB)
Missed BlackBerry messenger. (This is more of a social standard than something Apple is 'missing' via an upgrade - but it just works better for me)
Found it hard to text, in comparison to my BlackBerry.

What I miss?

Safari
iPod
Alarms (Being able to set multiple ones)

Overall for me though, the Curve/Bold and an iPod touch is perfect.

I left the iPhone because I realized I had two choices:

-An iPhone with multimedia focus but poor PDA functions (for my needs), and carry a separate PDA. Which I did for over a year with my iPhone.

-A smartphone with strong PDA functions and carry the iPhone as a web tablet/media player.

I switched to a Samsung Epix recently and its the perfect tool for me. I have software installed so when I turn it on i get an immediate status update: missed calls, emails, what's next on the calendar. when I move beyond that I get a list of my appointments and tasks for the next 3 days, and I can add and adjust those right from the main screen. I also have a tab that can take me to my frequently used programs all with a few clicks.

It's not an iPhone, but it does keep me more organized, and it's not like the major strengths of my iPhone (web and multimedia) disappear. media still works great, and web works better over wifi anyway...if I ever go away and want to surf the web for any length of time, I can always install a program to turn my epix's wifi into a router for my iPhone so I can use the better browser. But for day-to-day stuff I need tasks, alarms, etc that just weren't strong enough on my iPhone.

I've turned my iphone into a ipod touch/backup phone in favor of a blackberry curve.

I was an iphone user since day 1, standing in line for both the first iphone and the iphone 3g. It's a great phone, but I got tired of waiting for features that I would like to have, which I believe may never come.

While it's nice to have mms and video recording now, the features that really got me overboard, were calender invites, and more customizable sound profiles.

Planning things with my gf (she has a blackberry) is now much easier that we can send invites to each other. Easy to send addressbook info, pics, etc, between each other as well. I also really like the ability to have customized sound profiles for every type of notification as well. It's nice to know when I got an email, sms, facebook, myspace, im etc. notification and I can know which one it is before ever checking the phone.

Sound is louder too.

Not knocking the iphone, it's a great phone and enjoyed using it over the last year and few months. But after playing with my gf's blackberry, it opened up my eyes to all new communication tools that are just not available on the iphone.

I still keep mine around and use it daily for wifi internet, apps, and music/video. I just don't use it as my main communication tool anymore.

I havent left yet...
as soon as I find a cheap HTC touch HD...
I'll be goooooooooone....:D

I am so pissed at Sprint for not getting that phone!

I hear that the screen is not only immaculate, but just about the best screen on a mobile device since the inception of LCD screens on mobile devices.

I did get a look at the Storm's screen up close and personal, I have to say the sharpness, clarity, and brightness of it does make the iPhone's screen look very mediocre.

Probably because we don't have Early Termination options here - once you're signed up you pay for the term of the contract, or pay the rest of the contract up front to get out early...

I had an iPhone then an iPhone 3G, but I now use a Nokia E71.
The 3G iPhone simply didn't have enough battery to get me through an average day and if I used it as an iPod too, then it would barely get me through the morning.
I got the phone replaced for an unrelated issue (cracking case) and it was still no different so now my Daughter has an iPhone 3G (which she is pretty delighted about), and I have a phone that does what I need it to do much better then the iPhone and a 32GB iPod touch for my media and other Apple goodness.
Personally, I find the combination suits me far better than having everything on a single device...

I would never get an iPhone for business. It just seems like it doesn't get the job done.

However, as a multimedia device, I would buy it... which is why I'm asking for one for Christmas.

tsice
I use the iPhone for my business because of Mobile Me. Without Mobile Me, any phone would do. I did use the Bold which was really great but without Mobile Me, I would have to type in info on the phone and Mac. So by using the iPhone, it makes my life so much easier. I know about the sync software for Mac but it is not up to speed yet, and it still wont use Mobile Me wireless.

You must love the phone a lot ;) :D

Actually there are two reasons why I'm leaving:
AT&T and high prices
iTunes

I come from using a Zune (shoot me), and I thought I would go along with the 'future' of converged devices... but I like devices that do one thing and do it well (or maybe I just like devices that are separate from music players.) I'm going over to T-Mobile with my sister, and will more than likely be getting a G1 (because it's their coolest phone in my eyes).

I'm just not getting what I want from the iPhone and instead of *****ing about it, I'm being a little more proactive and moving along to what I want and to a device/service that's right for me.

iTunes is the reason that I switched to Apple mobile devices! iTunes makes everything easier. It makes much more sense than Windows Media Player. I can't understand this logic at all. Although, I guess you like what you know?

If you ask me, iTunes is the reason that the iPod and all of its children have succeeded.

I hope that you take the opportunity to really sit down with the G1 before you switch. I was extremely disappointed.

funny, iTunes is now why I hate all the ipod/iphone stuff. Songbird rocks.

had a 2g then a 3g. (shouldn't have 'upgraded' but it was free and new!)

2g was half decent, but 3g was just awful.

there are so many phones out there that are just better at being just a phone, which is what I need....primarily.

reception in general is much worse than even a basic Nokia in my experience. 3G is a joke. All of the current smartphones are better IMO and none of them crash as much as safari does.

Its a good ipod and average internet device but again there are other mp3 players that give better sound quality than an ipod and better all in one devices.

each to their own of course but it seems to be another apple product full of marketing hype but substandard delivery.

glad its gone, I don't miss it.... at all.

I had the iphone 3g for 4 months.
Amazing phone. I was on it all day all night and used it for everything.
Prior to the iphone I used a blackberry curve anf pearl and they were the most reliable useful deviced.

Once the bold came out I was interested and I waited to see what people said with reviews and personal use. So it was all good so I decided to try it out about a week ago. I lovr it and its with at&t still.

I am so pissed at Sprint for not getting that phone!

Sprint doesn't know what the hell they are doing. That's why they're going down the tubes. I was on Sprint and was looking for a new cellphone. Then when Dan Hesse made that stupid comment about "Android not being good enough for the Sprint label," I was out of there. I knew they weren't going to have any good phones in "the pipeline," so I went to AT&T the next day.

I probably would have stayed on Sprint had they offered an Android-based phone.
