I'm actually thinking of selling my 3G becuase I just simply can't afford the $100 a month bill when I only use 200 minutes on it a month.
Plus I have edge network which is just too slow.

Zack

I'll probably go with a cheap Tracfone becuase its cheap.

By this I assume you mean AT&T's 3G network. Since it seems that everyone else's (Sprint and Verizon's) network is just fine and doing well.

No I'm in the UK on O2, my journey home from work is 15 mins by train.... 8 miles.

On the same network a Nokia N95 and Iphone within a yard apart.....

The iphone loses signal COMPLETELY for 5 mins of that journey and only has 3G for the first 3 or 4 mins (leaving a City)

The N95 loses 3g for maybe 3 or 4 minutes of the journey before it returns and NEVER loses signal completely.

Pretty rubbish on the iPhone when you can't even send a text!

Wow, that's terrible.

My phone switched from EVDO to (2G) when I make a call, but whenever I browse the web or check emails it's EVDO all the way. When I first got the phone it would come and go, but now I don't loose it at all, no matter where I am.

Even in the boondocks I have a good EVDO signal.

new test yesterday....

The nokia 1650...all of £20, can hold its signal consistently on the same journey. iPhone.... still rubbish.

My cousin upgraded from a first gen iPhone to the BB Storm the other day. He owned the Storm for 2 days and said it was the worst decision he ever made. Then, last night, he returned it and got the iPhone 3G. He LOVES it! True story.

|I tried to buy another phone to replace my 3G UK iPhone as it is locked and can not be unlocked. However after 3 weeks or so with the HTC Touch HD I bought an original iPhone unlocked which are still sold here in Thailand. I just couldn't stand the phone I tried to replace the iPhone with. On the bright side I will give the HTC away and it should make somebody very happy.

So I tried to switch back and it cost me about $500 to get another iPhone. this is the fourth iPhone I have bought.

Probably because we don't have Early Termination options here - once you're signed up you pay for the term of the contract, or pay the rest of the contract up front to get out early...

I had an iPhone then an iPhone 3G, but I now use a Nokia E71.
The 3G iPhone simply didn't have enough battery to get me through an average day and if I used it as an iPod too, then it would barely get me through the morning.
I got the phone replaced for an unrelated issue (cracking case) and it was still no different so now my Daughter has an iPhone 3G (which she is pretty delighted about), and I have a phone that does what I need it to do much better then the iPhone and a 32GB iPod touch for my media and other Apple goodness.
Personally, I find the combination suits me far better than having everything on a single device...

I have three friends (soon to be four) who live nearby who have iPhones and I shall be joining them next month. They haven't had any of the problems that seem to be common in the US, possibly because of a more complete 3G coverage. I wondered if the 3G coverage was giving UK people a better experience with the iPhone.

I don't know how the early termination fee works in the US. Is it a pro rata way of buying out of your contract? Sorry it didn't work out for you.
