I like the classic! While I do prefer the chicklet keyboard and bigger trackpad area (not the single button)...I'll be ordering a MBP classic as a christmas present for myself :D 2.5, matte.

the screen and plethora of connections re: no hassle dvi, firewire 400, 800 seal the deal for me.

boo yah!

Good to hear. I hope you have a superb time geeking around during Christmas. :)

i just got my unibody today and i gotta say, i love this machine. The new mbp feels a lot more slick and fresher. The glass screen has glare issues but most of the time it looks just fine and provides a crystal clear screen. The keyboard is fantastic, i like my chicklet keyboard. The large trackpad is a little tricky but it works. Overall i think this is a nice evolution in the macbook pro line, i definitely prefer it over the previous generation.

also a side note, the unibody case really provides a rigid chassy. You can hold this with one hand and there is no flex or bending, it feels very solid.

I have no doubt the new chassis is sturdier... it should be. I only wish they had kept the basics of the classic MBP when they upgraded the chassis, instead of turning the MBP into the MB. There really wasn't an issue with the basic style being unique, and it doesn't matter one bit to me that my laptop matches the iMac... since I don't have an iMac, and I don't think they're part of a pair anyway. If they had incorporated the improvements in the chassis, kept things aluminum, made the keys metal... I'd perhaps even forgive the chicklet keys...;) As it is... I'm happy with my functional, and still classy MBP PV (previous generation.)

New Mpbs Rocks!

My son owns the older MBP, I have recently got a new one.

Once I got past the trackpad lockup problems with apple's software fix, I can honestly say that this machine rocks.

Going back and forther beteen the two machines, my son has had to agree as wel.
Once you get used to the touch of the chicklet keyboard and the trackpad uni-button thing, this machine flies.

Add that to all the previous observations about the solid feel of the unibody "chassy" (sic) and you've got yourself a winner!

i was pretty fond of the macbook with the exception of the bulkiness. I think apple really made a nearly perfect laptop in terms of design. However, the lack of firewire 800, hdmi and matt screen option is pretty terrible. I'm willing to forgive those shortcomings and enjoy this thing, it's so sexy.

- I'm concerned about the reflections with the glass screen, as I haven't used glossy for a while. We'll se how it lines up...
- Lack of FireWire 400 and full dual-link DVI (didn't use them really that often, but when I needed them I was thankful they were there)
- Sometimes it was convenient to have ports on both sides

Agreed on the ports, I suppose there just wasn't room with them putting the battery & HDD in an easy to access area. Something had to give I suppose.

FireWire was an issue for me as well however I've found that I can daisy chain multiple HDs or a HD and an audio interface so it really shouldn't be an issue for anyone. Keep in mind that the FW 400 port on the old model was on the same bus as the 800...so we didn't really have 2 true ports....when they were both plugged in the 400 dragged the 800 down to the slower speed. So in the end there is no advantage to having the 2nd port, they might as well be daisy chained. NOW, if Apple really wanted to make a "pro" machine they would add a 2nd FW port with its OWN unique bus. Then you'd have some firepower.

With the screen, when I tried it in the store I hated it. Since I've been working on it I've totally gotten used to it and it don't notice it in the slightest....unless windows are open behind me w/ sunlight beaming in or bright lights are on behind me. In my working conditions I have zero complaints; don't even notice it until the screen goes black. A non issue for me which is a relief....I seriously thought I may have made a mistake before it got here. Its a gorgeous screen.

To add to your list:

+ Magnetic latch is a 10 fold improvement over the button latch of the previous models.
+ Sound has been improved upon, MUCH quieter and slightly better quality.

- Trackpad is too noisy, they could have easily put some kind of insulation in so it doesn't click too loud.
