I think it is really the experience that helps people understand the extreme low quality of the food. I only wish that like the OP I could sit here and say that I have never eaten at these fast food places. I can't, I can say though that I have not eaten at one of these fast food places in over 10 years with the exception of a trip to IHOP. It was 3am and I had been at work since 7am. It was the only place open, still hungry as I was I hardly got a bite. GROSS!!!, has anyone ever had IHOP's "eggs"?

People like to talk about the low quality of food at places like McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc,...

Is it really that rare for some one not to have been to these places?

Those places are trash. I never ate at any of those places.
Those places are just designed to make a person fat.

IHOP isn't a fast food; it's a coffee shop.

That said, I've eaten at many of the establishments you listed (excluding Duchess and Whitecastle, which aren't in my area), but I don't eat at many of them regularly, and some I haven't been to in years.

In fact, the only which I eat at regularly is Taco Bell, which as far as fast food is concerned, is one of the safest, cleanest, and healthiest national chains in America (and tastiest for sure! :D).

I might frequent McDonalds more often, but I don't eat beef, and nearly every item on their menu includes beef ingredients (including the french fries!). Gross!

Actually, Chipotle is pretty bad for you. I think one of their burritos made the top 20 unhealthiest foods in America. Go look at their nutrition facts :)

I do believe that, but I'd imagine its because of shear size. When a burrito is the size of my neck, thats where I draw the line.

There are health choices there though, compared to most fast food thats good. You could always go for a burrito bowl, not for me though, I like my 878 calorie, 22g of fat, monster. Hey, at least its got like 51g of protein in it, who needs protein shakes when you can eat at Chipotle. At least its good quality food, thats all that counts. :p

I think your question is worded perfectly, OP! Where have I not eaten at?

Nowhere.

But let's see... My usual day consists of a McGriddle and a Sausage McBiscuit with two hashbrowns, two cherry pies and an orange juice in the morning before school, running out to Taco Bell for a few tacos and some Baja chalupas (No tomatoes...disgusting things) for lunch. Then, when I get out of school, I grab a footlong and a half of a double meat Spicy Italian sub (gotta love Pepperoni and Salami!). By 6:00, I'm usually hungry again, so I head back to McDonald's for two Big Macs, a sweet tea and a large fry. Before I head to bed at around midnight, I walk out to Wendy's (because I need my exercise to stay healthy, you know, and they're open late!) to pick up a large Frosty (vanilla) and a bacon double cheeseburger, no fries. Then I usually go to bed when I get home, and repeat.

;)

Just kidding, but I enjoy a McDonald's sweet tea and a Big Mac every once in a while.

Screw Burger King.

Why? Whopper > Big Mac.

Sorry. The only reason I go to McDonalds instead of BK is because McDonalds' french fries are wonderfully addictive. I don't know what makes them so different, but there's definitely a difference between then and everyone else in the fries department.

The Big Mac is what the whopper would be if it didn't suck.

Anyway, not true. :p The lettuce and tomatoes in the Whopper taste better, the beef patty, while not up to the standards of more expensive burger fast food places in America, are larger, and of better quality than what you find in the Big Mac.

The only burger at McDonalds I really enjoy is the Quarter Pounder, which has an OK burger patty.

But I wouldn't mind eating either, really.

Which is bad. Too much of them can be bad for you.

You can make the same statement about any food.

I once read in a book that too much breathing is bad. In fact, after several decades of breathing, the risk of death increases greatly. ;) ;)

Oh man, if you think BurgerKing is good you need to make it out here to California and have an In N Out burger, oh man, the absolute epitome of a fast food hamburger.

Those are some good burgers, Walter.

Shut the f*ck up Donny!

Those places are trash. I never ate at any of those places.
Those places are just designed to make a person fat.

Those places are made for people that are on the go and really don't have time to sit down for food. If I go to a fast food place its mainly because I am short on time. Saying they are there to make you fat is plain ignorance. imo. Anything in large amounts is unhealthy for you, if you ate fast food in moderation as you should with ANY food you wouldn't really see any change in your figure. If you look around some of that sit down TGIF and Chili's type food is worse for you than similar options at fast food places.

I do believe that, but I'd imagine its because of shear size. When a burrito is the size of my neck, thats where I draw the line.

While I like Chipotle I was pretty shocked when I found out that McDonalds was the controlling owner in the chain until recently (2006 I believe) when they split up.

I was raised as a vegetarian as a kid, and now I'm a vegan by choice. I can say I've never in my life been to a McD's, Burger King, Hardees, etc. Ever.

I do, however, enjoy a Chik-fil-a lemonade every now and then. :) But I didn't discover that until I was 19 and away at college...

That's why I only eat out at Spago. :D

Actually, there are enough quick recipes available, I bet I could cook a healthy meal at home in scarcely more than it would take to order at McDonalds. Okay, maybe it would take like :15 minutes... but I'd rather make the time to sit down to a healthy meal. Meh, that's just me. I'm not going to cut off friendships or shun people just because they stop at McDonald's (a company I really dislike, btw)

The problem for some is not that you have to cook (not ONLY you have to cook anyways), it's that if you constantly cook you have to go GROCERY SHOPPING. And then after you cook you have to do DISHES and CLEAN. So even if the food making process is the same, the overall process works out to be much longer.

While I eat healthy food for the most part, I have visited all the fast food restaurant mentioned except for a few that's not in my area. I think it's very difficult to not to because as a kid, where do everyone go for their birthday?? McDonald or KFC!! By the time I got to high school I've stopped eating pizza and at this point I rarely eat at fast food places. Except Tim Horton's sometimes :D. But their food is pretty healthy.

I have lived on Dairy Queen's ice cream pizza for like, 3 days or so though during my first time living alone :p.

McDonalds seems to have improved their food quality and service quite a bit lately. I have been pretty happy with the food the last few times I have gone.

In 'N Out is definitely the best fast food joint I have ever been too. To bad the closest one is thousands of miles away.

I am really not a big fan of Taco Bell or KFC though, I will probably never eat at one of those places again.

I was raised semi-vegetarian by a nutritionist, restaurant/cafe owner. So no, you're not really alone, and I had a remarkable number of friends growing up whose families vehemently denied their kids that crap too. Truth is, I didn't know what a McDonalds was until the 7th grade (and this despite being near quite a few of them growing up in Long Island and Chicago), though my mother told me we once ate at a McDonalds upon arriving in Tokyo when I was 5.

No one can avoid eating FF in any modern country, IMO. It's a part of life and is served at even the finest restaurants, to some degree. Just because it's not called McDonalds, Taco Bell or any of the other aforementioned establishments doesn't make it nutritious "home-cooking".

Haha, I wondered when that was going to come up. Good quote. Good burgers, now I pretty much have to go tomorrow, I think MacRumors is responsible for my weight gain, I'll be talking to my attorney tomorrow, after the in n out.

Wow, that is a surprise, oh well, still can't get enough of their burritos, its been a once a week place for the last month or so, should probably stop that. I knew they were independent for a while, wonder who owns them now.

You know, I'll agree with that as well. There was a period of time when McDonalds was kind of untouchable for me, but my recent visits have been pretty good. We've got one in the area thats especially nice, free wifi and all.

I just remember the Greek Mac in Greece, Big Mac on a pita? Delicious! And the Tarot and spam combos in Hawaii, eww.

This thread has the odd effect of making me want to eat McDonalds - others have mentioned it as well.

To be 100% honest, Supersize Me made me feel the same way, even after being presented with all that footage. I was craving a QP meal from MickieD's pretty much the whole time I was watching it.......

Yeah. It's been hard for me to not eat McDonald's every time I've seen that movie. Especially the guy (Don, I think?) Who had eaten like three big macs a day for about three years (at the time). I really want to be like him :D Mainly because the Big Mac is the greatest fast food sandwich ever made*.

*This is objective. I back this up with a survey I just made up:

******** survey said:
10 out of 10 people whose posts have been looked at in this thread agree the Big Mac is a great sandwich. Extrapolation of this data insists that 100% of all people think the Big Mac is the greatest fast food sandwich ever.

Thank you for capitalizing those words; I wouldn't have been able to read them otherwise. :D

Supersize Me was more of an intellectual interest because I don't go to McDonald's - and I agree it's very unhealthy - but it's just plain stupid for someone to live at the place and then sue them when they get heart disease. Every once in a while I get this craving for fast-food fries.. I slap myself in the face and it goes away.
