The title of the post "Anyone NOT have a wireless problem with leopard"
i simply answered the question

So... you read the thread title but not the first post. You know I think you're right. He should have made his entire post in the thread title box. That would have been a bit less confusing.

I'm having network problems but it only seems to be with my secured network. Both my desktop PC and another windows based laptop run fine on the wireless network, its only my MBP thats having issues. Aditionally, it works fine on my friends unsecured network. Are there some settings that I'm missing that will stabilize my connection to a secured wireless network?

Try looking at all the other posts the one above this one for arguments sake

I have had no wireless problems whatsoever, using a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air & an iPhone.

It gets stranger and stranger...

Been having a solid connection (transmit rate: ~30-48 is my benchmark!) for about an hour now, but it's just gone again. Bit strange i thought...

check my keychain setting for programs that can access the keychain and guess what! The SystemUIServer and Apple80211Agent have disappeared!

I added them in an hour ago and between then and now they got deleted somehow!!?

(Readded them now and all is well again)

VERY strange, anyone know what to make of it?

Consider the the fact that a neighbor of yours could be using a cordless phone. They work on 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies and the range can go as far as 1000ft or more. If a cordless phone is nearby it will very much affect your wireless in the worst way.

I had constant--and I mean constant--connectivity problems with a year and a half old Linksys WRTG54G (not GL). I had updated the firmware and had only about one full day without a dropped connection afterwards. I wasn't sure if this was an issue with the router or airport, but sometimes cycling the airport card on and off would re-establish a connection. Often, power-cycling the router would buy me a few hours of uptime.

I live in an apartment complex and there are many, many routers within range, so much so that changing channels was basically useless. I could pick up about 50 networks on a scan (often, my own wouldn't show up).

10.5.1 and 10.5.2 gave me an identical experience.

I moved to a new apartment, and there are fewer WiFi networks within range. This seemed to improve my connectivity for about a day, and then I would get dropped connections every 15 minutes.

So I bit the bullet and bought a new gigabit AEBS. I've since had 3 days of uptime without a single drop. I'm still using the 2.4 GHz frequency, too. Basic setup with WPA/WPA2 and wireless printing.

I'm knocking on wood, but so far it appears all of my connectivity issues--and there were days when I couldn't get online for more than 15 minutes total--were solved by dumping the Linksys.

I know the WRT54G has a pretty solid reputation (or did until the more recent versions), but it appears to me that it is either totally incapable of competing in an apartment complex with multiple signals or otherwise prone to failure.

Everything has been fine here on Leopard (I've gone from 10.5 to 10.5.1 and then 10.5.2), MacBook Pro (Late 2007), Linksys WRT300N using WPA2 Encryption and DD-WRT firmware.

Yeah, and I made quite a detailed post for you above. You didn't respond to it, or even say thanks.

I'm not crying about it though.

I know you did thankyou.

I tried to respond but my internet connection dropped!

I know you took time to do that and i think it has helped thanks.

I had problems but don't think it was Leopard related

I posted a few times saying that I never had any wireless (connection drops off) before 10.5.2 nor after 10.5.2. It lasted almost 3 weeks. On my 3 weeks old Macbook, I started to get wireless issues this week.

I'm using a D-Link DIR-625 router. The router is located on the first floor in my house and I sometimes use the Macbook on the second floor. Until this week, I had strong signal all the time. It started one evening when I got very slow transfert rates (unusable connection). The day after, I was on the second floor again (at the same place) and I was not even able to see my network. What was very strange, I was detecting my neighbor's network but not mine. When I got back closer to the router downstairs, I got the signal back. Even though the router is downstairs, I have a very open area house and the distance to the router from where I work upstairs is about 20-30 ft. So the distance and the walls are not an issue.

Decided to change the D-Link router for AEBS yesterday (I hate when things don't work), the AEBS is connecting with very strong signal with no problem at all anywhere in my house.

Here are the settings I had on the D-Link router :
Latest Firmware revision
Wireless channel : auto-scan (using channel 3)
802.11 mode : Mixed (n, g, b)
Channel width : Auto 20/40 MHZ
Transmission rate :Best (automatic)
Looking at the real transmission rate, it had the tendency to vary from 90 to 120
Network visibility status : Invisible
Security : WPA personal

Here are the settings on the AEBS
Channel : automatic (using channel 11)
802.11n mode (802.11 b/g compatible)
Multicast rate : 2 Mbps (don't know what it is)
Transmission rate :100% with interference robustness checked
Looking at the real transmission rate, it looks constant since yesterday at 130
Network visibility status : Invisible (closed network)
Security : WPA personal

Hope that helps

Used wireless on my iMac since I purchased it in December 2007. Always had a full signal in the menu bar and never once had a problem.

interesting - people seem to be having more success with the AEBS. Though i have seen posts where people have had problems with it.

Channel 11 seems to be a popular one too, people seem to have success with that one too.

My MBP, MB's, and an older PB all connect with Leopard just fine. Routers include AEBS 802.11n, ABS 802.11g, Airport Express, and an old Belkin 802.11b. I am in a single family home, with no neighbors too close. Most of the time, I can't see any other networks...

I have 2.4Ghz cordless phones and a microwave within 15ft of my AEBS, and no real issues.

My AEBS connection speed shows 130Mbs pretty much all the time.

My MB (802.11g) with an ABS 802.11g shows 54Mbs most of the time, but does drop down to a lower speed ocassionally when the cordless phones are in use - but it does not drop connections.

None of the machines drop connections, but ocassionally will have airport turned off after sleep - but this is vary rare.

I have played around with Interface Robustness (?) a few times, but I think it is turned off on all of my routers and Mac's.

I run Video iChats every day for several hours (sometimes all day), and the wireless connections stay connected the whole time.

Not sure what other settings to give you...

It seems like some machines just have Airport issues. I am not sure if it is a Router issue, or something on the Mac, or something else.

My MBP is a C2D 2.33 with 802.11n
My MB is a CD 2.0 with 802.11g
My PB is a Titanium 1.0 with 802.11b.

I have an Apple TV with 802.11n also.

All of my machines were originally loaded with Tiger and then upgraded in place (no archive and install) with Leopard. All machines have 10.5.2 with all security update also.

Maybe there is some environmental issue here. Have you tried taking your Mac to another location to see if it is any better? Say to a friends house, or to a coffee shop, etc?

I know alot of people seem to have issues, but for alot of us, everything seems to be working fine...

Now the Airport Disk on the AEBS is another story all together...

Well I'm having problems ever since I switched to 10.5.2 a few days ago. It is constantly scanning and very often while it does it drops my connection.

I have a 1 month old macbook and am having this problem on a number of wifi systems. I travel a lot and it's been a problem at 3 hotels and 2 airports besides my system at home.

There is a large discussion on the Apple board ... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1397364

I had no problems with 10.5.1

No problems here

iMac Alum (see below)
Macbook (see below)
Apple TV
Airport Extreme

no problems here either

however cant get my emac online via ethernet internet share from my imac hmm

i think i have the solution

i cant be bothered to read all three pages so this bay be have posted before but i used to get a Connection Timeout until i found a wierd but true solution- before the WEP key put the dollar sign ($) n spaces like this $156789 :)

Airport card temperature

I have not had a single problem, until a few days ago.
The AIRPORT card in my new MBP has been running at less than 100F since i got it, even when under heavy load from safari and Gearth. Now my card is hitting 119F and the wireless signal keeps dropping. My fans are at idle and the processor is at 117F. Why is the airport card running so hot?

Could this be a cause for leopard machines having poor wireless response?
Do I have a problem with the AP card running at those temperatures?
Heat during video encoding to blame?

Anyone else having heat problems in relation to Airport performance?

Never had a problem with my MacBook. I have a DIR-655 router that's been running non-stop for months. Transmit rate is 130. Friends who have brought their MacBooks and/or MacBook Pros have never had a problem either.
