I sold my 8GB,

reasons for selling:

-$375 cash will probably be plenty to get an equivalent or better one(see refurbs@AT&T for example)
-GPS (if this is true in v2, that alone will be worth it for me)
-3G (AT&T recently added 3G coverage in my city, so while I wouldn't have noticed in the past, now I definitely will. doing quick on the road searches will be even quicker)
-imminent SDK release hopefully means I get even more apps I like, games are a given
-shiny new phone+warranty
-possible AT&T subsidies just makes the deal sweeter, I like the service, I have no problems signing another 2-year agreement.
-other new features, hardware and software that won't be supported by V1 (unknown at this point, hoping for regular headphone jack at the very least)

reasons against:
-already had it hacked with apps/games I liked
-Losing ~$45 on the deal if I have to buy a new one at $399+tax(this just means I rented my iPhone for $45 for 9 months)
-SIM card mess(I just removed mine and let the buyer worry about it)
-I'm 9 months into this 2-year iPhone agreement, what if they don't let me sign another(as long as v2 doesn't require different data plan, which it might, I'll just take my old SIM and put it in the v2)
-paying the $20 extra for iPhone data plan while I wait to buy a v2
-being without the iPhone for up to a month or more(if I wait for refurbs)!

the reasons for just outweighed the reasons against for me.

Not selling the current one when I get the new one. Reason? I have a number of family members who'd really like an iPhone.

I've had mine since iDay and I will be keeping it. It's in perfect condition and already has Applecare for another year. After spending $599(-$100) for this one, I'm in no hurry to spend even more.

Where I live, it will be years before we have 3G. At work and home, I'm on Wi-fi, so internet speed isn't an issue.

I would love an integrated GPS, since I don't have any GPS. But I'm thinking of just buying one for the car since their so cheap anyway. But will probably wait to see if they come up with a GPS module/bluetooth way of doing it for v1.

I would love to keep up with every new version that comes out. But that would be crazy. I can't afford to do that with my Macs and I can't with iPhone either.

Not selling mine, no reason to. I've only had it since February, and aside from the lack of A2DP (which is coming with the SDK update), there isn't a whole lot more I want. That being said, if AT&T subsidizes and will allow me to sign up my wife for a 2nd gen iPhone, I'll do that and give her mine.

If not, I am completely content with what I have. I'm not even sure my area has good 3G coverage, and GPS isn't a priority for me. If I'm on foot, I know where I'm going, and if not, I've got a Magellan that works just fine.

Besides, that $400-$500 could go towards the cost of a new MBP or iMac that I have a feeling will make it's way into our home soon. :D

I am not planning to sell mine. I see no reason to. EDGE is fast enough for what I do, and I love the phone in all other ways. Maybe if the new one has something dramatically different (better) that we don't expect I could be persuaded. GPS doesn't mean much to me because the cell tower triangulation they have now works really really well. So if it's just that and 3G, I'm plenty happy with what I have.

I wish that the "locate" function worked that well for me. I'm in a major metropolitan area and it is about 6 miles off for me. It was only about 3 miles off until a couple of days ago and then it got worse! Not a huge deal...I set up a bookmark with my house location, but I really would like GPS.

There's another really good reason not to sell the current iPhone - I think the next one is going to sell a lot better, making the current one quite rare. The iPhone is a cool phone, and having a rarer model, even if its older, is certainly very cool.

That said, I did actually sell mine (well, in the process of). The current eBay deals are just too good to miss. In the UK, the used 8Gb ones are going for almost their full retail price. Some even go higher. Can't miss an opportunity like that.

I got mine for Christmas, it was in perfect condition, turned around and sold it on ebay for $395! :D Cause I am saving for a new car and don't want to pay $400 again. If I was you guys I would sell it before the new one comes out and you old iphone won't be worth as much.

I'd like faster data and a better camera, but that's about all. I'm not selling mine, though, because:

1) I don't know how to mess with SIMs and crap.
2) I tossed my old phone.
3) I don't want to be without my iPhone for a month.

There's an outside chance AT&T will start subsidizing the new phone. If that's the case, then crap, I shoulda sold mine today. But that's life, and I'm playing it safe and easy.

Pretty much my exact reasons as well

I can't believe people are selling and we don't even know what the product even includes yet. Or even when it's going to be available. It could be July before Apple even stocks it (eg so they can take pre-orders and feel out the demand).

Even if it does have GPS, Google/Apple better do one hell of a job on the software. So what if it can pinpoint your location if you have to keep hitting refresh for the display to update.

I can guarantee you fools selling and hoping for a subside: it's not going to happen... especially if you already signed a contract when you got the original iPhone. Even if they even do a subsidy, get ready to be locked in for another 2 years most likely. Why would Apple/AT&T subsidize the phone when people gladly paid $600 last year?

What if the iPhone requires a $39 (or more) data plan for 3G? Are you willing to pay that? And what if it ends up being not that much faster? (Just like EDGE speeds vary now, 3G might be all over the map.)

There's too many variables to go "all in" on a Gen 2 iPhone, especially since 3G isn't widely available. It's just tech at the end of the day... big deal if you're not the first in the world to get one. I'm waiting for all this to shake out first before I get rid of my beloved iPhone. Seems most of the crap people complain about will either be fixed by Apple in software (which will make it over to the 1G anyway) or 3rd party developers will take it on.

My buddy has a 3G phone (Pantech Duo) and while it is cool with it's GPS and all, I never use the features. I live in a suburb 28 miles from Chicago, and we've got WiFi everywhere. Also, even when I'm in Chicago, I never have a problem with the locate me feature. There simply isn't enough reason to switch. If it aint broke, don't fix it, yes?

Im not selling mine because

Its like having a mac computer, you tend to hold on to them for longer, as new o.s's are release and spring new life into your baby. I will get the 3g shinny white supper sexy retro, (Storm Trooper) style iphone. Just wish they would be a little bolder with the designs. If they are going white , forget the silver bezel! Its either aluminum/steel or white stuff! Like the two distinct imac revisions, don't try and mix them together  LOL ;) X

Glad its going to be lighter, squarer, 3.2Mp, White  The true all in one! mmm

Hey

Well this forum's cluttered with "I'm selling my iPhone for the 3G" threads. Since I'm not thinking of either selling my current iPhone for a 3G phone, and neither am I getting the 3G phone (at least not presently, we'll see in a year's time after I got good wear off my current iPhone)... are there any other people around NOT considering at the moment? And what are your reasons?

1. Given all the fun and games with screen quality I'm inclined to stick with my perfect screen rather than play russian roulette with (what will probably be) the least expensive screen Apple can source (got to keep margins up).

2. After 6 months my iPhone is still in perfect condition.

3. Not interested in GPS (if the new one even has GPS capability)

4. Not interested in video chats (even if the networks don't charge through the nose to use it).

5. Memory size is sufficient. That could change in the future, but if push comes to shove video and music can go.

6. Don't have the money for a new iPhone right now.

7. Edge performance and coverage is adequate for my needs. WiFi covers the rest. 3G would be "nice", but is not really that important.

So from my point of view the new iPhone probably is not going to bring enough to the table to make it a worthwhile upgrade. It would be different if the 2.0 software update were not going to be made available, but then such a stunt would really put me off buying another iPhone. Ever. I'm inclined to run this thing to the end of my O2 contract and then consider getting the next update to come down the pipe - around this time next year probably.

With the iPod Apple always made incremental improvements. Looks like the iPhone hardware is going to be treated the same. Of course Apple could come up with some brilliant new hardware feature for this revision (in which case all bets are off), but I doubt it. 3G and maybe GPS are all I seriously expect to see. Improved camera and or additional ones are probably items that will appear somewhere down the line.

I'm not selling my iPhone because:

1. I just got it for Christmas...
2. I'm broke...
3. I don't even get 3G service where I live, so it's pointless... Wi-Fi will do for me since I'll get it at my house and where I work.
4. I'm content with the phone I have now and it'll only get better with 2.0

Assuming the new iPhone is something I want to upgrade to, I'll likely be giving my current one to my brother. If for some reason he doesn't want it, I'll give it to a friend. I realize I could easily sell it for at least a couple of hundred bucks, but what the hell, pay it forward I guess.....

The people that are selling your iPhones now, aren't you worried that you won't like the look/design of the new iPhone? I'm pretty worried, because then me selling my iPhone would just be a waste. I do believe that Apple won't let us down, but who knows.

I'm not selling mine because at the moment I am perfectly happy with it. If the rumors end up being true and AT&T does end up subsidizing then i might just give this one to my wife and I'll get the 3g, I find that to be extremely unlikely however. I'm not the kind of guy that constantly needs the newest versions of everything. Its pretty much impossible to keep up with the never e ding upgrades in technology.

I am more than a little nervous about this, actually. I hate the look of the alleged 3g phones, so I am going to purchase a 16 gb on June 8th from AT&T and return it if I like the look of 3G phone.

I hated the speeds I got with EDGE playing with the phone at the Apple store, but I have to admit that I would forgo 3G if I didn't like the aesthetics of the 2v.

Are we supposed to sell our old ones?

Are they going to stop working?

Is this like anything the Blu-ray fans said - when Blu-ray is the winner, all HD DVD players and movies will stop working?

:D
