Not Selling or Buying a New one

Im not selling or buying a new one. I dont even care about the 2.0 upgrade. I have my iphone personalized through installer. The only way i will upgrade to 2.0 is if there is MMS. I like mine the way it is. and it looks great i dont even think they should have redesigned them. Plus what if you upgrade and the app store sucks which i personally believe it will and the new security is so tight you cant re-jailbreak? installer apps are free. all those schmucks from the app store are gonna charge so they can make money from it. Im leaving mine with 1.1.4 and jailbroke unless MMS is available.

To all the people who question whether or not they will like the new 3G iPhone;

IT'S APPLE! have they ever made a product that the public didn't like? I can't think of any time that has happened. The are the best in the biz and they know that the iPhone is their best product, therefore they WILL NOT mess it up. It will be much better than the first, there is no doubt in my mind.

Thanks for all your responses - keep em coming, some interesting stuff.

As for the MMS thing... isn't there already an application that can send / recieve MMS available from the installer? I have that software downloaded, but I never send MMS so it's just sitting there proudly proclaiming "MMS" =) I haven't used it yet, so I won't pretend to be able to talk about it. If anyone has, let's hear your input!

Yeah, I'm curious about the design too... =D

As someone who plans to keep the iPhone for another year at least, I'd be even more curious to see the 3rd generation

As I understand it, the AT&T training manual even had reference to MMS being part of the data plan. It could have been an assumption made, but you never know.

I don't use MMS, and didn't even know what it really was. But I do receive MMS messages sometimes, and I can't see them. It tells me to go to some website that never works.

The iPhone has done so much for me already, I just would like to see flash as an optional setting since some websites use it. But I was able to sit in an airport and order concert tickets while I was on the road. That really worked out nicely.

I'm not going to replace something fantastic unless there is an unbelievable upgrade. I have to gain serious utility, hence the reason I type this on a G4 Mini. The Intel models didn't offer enough different to upgrade. When the next Mini hits, it will be enough of a performance increase, I will get that one. The 3rd generation iPhone will probably be the same situation.

MMS is multimedia messaging service, namely picture messaging is what most people use it for. You know, when someone with a crappy RAZR takes a picture with its crappy camera and inserts it into a "text message" to someone else's cell phone. That's MMS. It would be nice if the iPhone supported it as opposed to receiving those stupid non-clickable texts to visit a webpage with a login/password, but seriously email is so much better, just less adopted on cell phones because of how easy it is to MMS on other phones. Apple will have to work out something with AT&T if they do enable it on the iPhone 2.0 (firmware) as none of the existing iPhone data plans include MMS and are forced to use that weird webpage to retrieve any MMS messages sent their way.

On another subject, anyone who doubts they will like or want GPS...just get in a car with one, then you'll understand. That's why even the possibility of GPS has me excited. If it's true, you know apple won't screw it up, they'll include turn-by-turn directions just like any other GPS that's worth buying.

I'm not selling it because I want to have a backup phone.

Question on that

If I keep my original iPhone and buy the 3G and lose the 3G or it breaks or whatever, can I just use the original iPhone again?

I figure if the 3G breaks with the SIM card in tact, I could just switch it over without telling anyone BUT what happens if I lose the 3G or it falls in water

The Lisa bombed big time for Apple....
The Cube is no where to be seen.

They have made mistakes.

If I get in a car with one I'll get a fine. It is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving in this country...
I meant get in a car that has a GPS navigation system and see how nice a GPS system is with turn-by-turn directions. Compare that to the current iPhone's "locate me" functionality and you'll quickly see what's missing.
What sim card mess?
Well, the iPhone in a box comes with a SIM card that will activate when you first hook it up to iTunes. Since I did that already, I took mine out and put it in an old phone. It's not a problem if you plan on using t-mobile or otherwise don't need the official AT&T activation you would get with a new iPhone, but it's something to think about at least.

Apple prematurely killed the Cube. It was just too expensive for its time. The Cube actually still has quite the following, despite its age. I would bet if Apple brought out a revised Cube, sold for around $899, it would easily sell (but that's a subject for another thread).

As I understand it, the AT&T training manual even had reference to MMS being part of the data plan.
The training manual stated that if you placed the iPhone's SIM card in another phone, it would act like a MediaNET device and you would get all the benefits of MMS, MediaNET, etc. Apparently the training manual isn't accurate because AT&T actually blocks/turns off MMS if your IMEI number is registered as an iPhone.
