Would you have any photos from multiple angles?
I'm not sure which case you are referring to, so I've attached a single photo of both. Hope that helps. The very dark gray one is the Switch Easy. From my measurements, the red one is the exact same width on the sides as the mini (64 mm) but the gray one is over 65 mm. You can see in the photo how the sides on the red one go inward after the corners similar to the Rebel. The Switch Easy does not.

No reply from Rebel (other than auto reply) to email I sent 5 days ago. My iPhone 12 mini is arriving tomorrow so I will at least try all the cases on for fit before returning them.

Much obliged!

The Switcheasy was the one I was interested in due to its thinner design overall.

I thought the sides on the Nude looked like they protruded a bit on their website. My current case (Design Skin Corner) has very thin sides that curl up the iPhone X, resulting in zero noticeable edge of that case...

I was hoping they’d design the back section of these iPhone 12 cases to thin out as they reached the rear side flat edges on the left/right so that the case wasn’t felt at all. But it may have been harder to do that, who knows.

It’s still a very sleek, minimalist design that’s my favourite so far.

Is that the all grey/black Nude case, or the Star Blue colour with black edging?

Also, are the top/bottom front lips of the Nude lower than the corners? Some photos on their website looked like they're slightly concave to make gestures easier from the top/bottom of the phone.

I've heard bad things about these cases not actually being as drop resistant as advertised and as viewed in videos.

I often watch this guy's YouTube videos but would never buy one of his products for how badly the first release of cases went. Letting people order and not shipping for months without communicating etc.

What have you heard? I think the only thing I’ve heard was when a phone actually does fall on its side, since there’s no protection there.

So I have my Mini now, and have tried the five cases I have. The Switch Easy again is hard thermoplastic, its stiffness may help avoid damage. Really tight fit. Not one you would want if you often change case. The generic Chinese similar case I actually like. The red looks good against my black model, and it has enough resilience to potentially help mitigate damage.

Back on topic, everythingapplepro has posted a new Mini/Max Pro drop test worth watching here. While you will find the drop test fascinating, he commented twice that gen2 cases would be available for the holidays. Take that with a grain of salt, but sounds like he will be ultimately be delivering cases for this year's 12 models. I'll be buying if he does. If he were more organized, he would have had them for launch. I guess being a high paid YouTuber cuts into business management. He needs a deputy.

I will only buy from his eBay store. They have a much quicker response.

It's like a very dark navy blue. No, there are lips top and bottom. It is very difficult to remove once on. I had to insert credit cards to help remove it. Also, as per the pictures, it does intrude on the sides and your hands will touch it. Measuring it, it is about .85mm on each side (which is the thickness throughout the case).

I’m VERY disappointed that the Gen 2 design has been changed to now have sides (& buttons). They were on a winner with the renders earlier in the year, but now the case will add thickness, taking away that near-naked grip...

Where did you hear that? A video? If true, ultra disappointed.

Edit: searched and found photos. Look like the sides are still bare for good finger access to the Mini. It has smaller corners than the gen1 so more minimalist. We'll see how it performs in drop tests. You had me going!

Another edit: these pix are many months old so things may have changed.

I'm happy they now have sides. I personally dislike cases with an open design (Which is the main reason I avoid Pitaka). But they already said the closed ones will release around December and the open sided case (Flex Series) will arrive in early 2021 so there will be a case for everyone.

Sorry to break it to you, but yeah, they’re old pictures.

Something made them alter the design to what you can see here @2:18
😒

Edit...It looks like they may have copied the iPhone 12 DesignSkin Phoenix case (maker of my current case I posted above)...

Swear word, or two. I missed that in the video. If I had to guess, it looks like a quarter to half a mm on the sides. But they appear to be using the native buttons, and that is still too thick for it to be a good design. Just did a rough caliper of the button height, about .45 mm.

Looking at the Phoenix case, it is double or more the thickness of the Rebel, and of course they had to add button extenders.

But they appear to be using the native buttons,
Sorry which case are you referring to here? & what do you mean by native? (I took “native” as the actual iPhone buttons).

Both the PhoneRebel Gen2 & Phoenix have buttons on their cases.

Ahh I missed your post earlier.

Great news that the sideless cases will arrive next year! Thanks for the scoop. 😁

Thanks! I don't know if that is good news or not. Naming next year's cases Flex Series doesn't make them sound substantial. Hope it works out, but I have some decent choices right now for open sided cases. Will upgrade to "Flex" if they offer the same advantages with better protection.

The pictures I linked looked like the Gen2 case used the native buttons. The more recent picture (apparently posted yesterday) CoolRunnings linked made it clear that they added buttons. At least in their latest prototype - it looks like there are other dimensional differences from the older Gen2 prototypes.

I watched a very amusing video from MobileReviewsEh yesterday on the Gen1 Rebel cases. He did his best to disparage them: 6 month delay after ordering, conflict of interest by a reviewer also making products, and what appeared to be his biggest beef "lack of symmetry". He didn't say it, but perhaps he meant "ugly". In some 20 hours of owning the Mini, one of my biggest problems is my case symmetry means at least half the time I pick it up bottom side up by feel and it doesn't unlock. I'd welcome some asymmetry! In fact, I'm going to modify a sided case to be "frameless" and asymmetrical. Function over form.

He did somewhat reluctantly say it was a premium case and very well made, good value with the included accessories, and that the included screen protector was excellent. Other than the valid company business incompetence point, the whole video just made me want the case more.

I only have a Xr but have loved the Rebel case despite the delivery issues. I paid for one upon release back on Feb and it took forever to get my case but I love the minimal protection it provides. The case is very well made.
Honestly l, felt it’s as protective a case as one can be when this minimal of design.

So while I wait until February (or more likely August) to see what a Rebel Flex looks like and can get one, I modified this Mateprox case, cut the sides off. Not so easy as I was hoping, TPU melts with a Dremel and the polycarbonate back doesn't lend itself to looking pretty either with handheld tools. So way ugly, especially compared to say if Mateprox made a frameless OEM. It is clearly more protective than the generic Chinese one I have and function is great. But the Chinese one does look pretty, and I've ordered two for backups (one red and one black for my black Mini) from AliExpress. $4 for two shipped (arrival in late January or Feb) versus almost $15 for one from Amazon with tax. Interestingly, AliExpress charged my state tax too. Wonder if they actually give it to the states?

I gotta admit, I switched back to my Apple silicone case just to try something different and I immediately noticed the extra “width” of the silicone case. What’s funny is I always thought it was one of my smaller cases but now I’m used to the phone rebel case and the naked sides.

That late?! There are a few on Amazon which may arrive earlier (not sure if they’re that inexpensive though).

😂 Whatever it takes for frameless. I like it.

Yep, exactly. I couldn’t go back to my silicone case either. Here’s a visualisation of the extra reach I get with a frameless case v Apple’s silicone...

So I'm just being super cheap. I already had the identical case from Amazon for close to $15 with tax (plus 4 other cases for evaluation). 2 (different colors) for a little over $4 even with the wait for backup cases was a bargain, even with the wait. $15 for a backup case is super poor value.

Have you revisited the SwitchEasy Nude by any chance? Any change of views? The slight protruding side edges & snug fit were your main gripes iirc.

I have it and reviewed it above. Also zero drop protection. Returning it.

Can anyone confirm the following?
Is Crystal series gen2 lighter than rebel series gen2 for Iphone 12 pro and 12 pro max?
