AT&T already dropped the price of their 2GB + unlim talk/text to $65 back in March https://www.macrumors.com/2014/03/08/aft-single-line-plan-drop/

Verizon's 2GB + unlim talk/text is $60... not $65 http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/shop/shop-data-plans/single-line-data-plans.html?null

You gotta read the fine print. AT&T is forcing you to use their NEXT program on the single line plan for $65. Hence why it's call no annual service contract pricing. At least VZW gives you the option of signing 2 contract or using their Edge program.

----------

Um...what...?

You said you despise Verizon and I was saying luckily for you nobody is forcing you to use their service.

You don't seem to know what you are talking about.

AT&Ts 2gb plan is $65/mo TOTAL (nothing more) since March. $40 for monthly service and $25 for AT&T Next with a Smartphone.

See screenshot below...

You're clearly not getting it. If you want that $65 price with AT&T you HAVE to use their NEXT plan. So you pay $25 for the line + $40 for 2GB of data + the monthly fee for which ever device you choose. There is NO option for a 2 year price for $65/ month with AT&T. If you choose not to use their NEXT Program you have to pay $40/mo for the line + $40/mo for the 2GB plan.

VZW is giving people the option to go 2 years -OR- sign up for their Edge program (and giving an additional $10 credit if you go that route).

What don't you understand?

I wonder when it comes to employee discounts, to how much of that $60 would they apply to (if any).

On same plan as OP. Only difference is the loyalty plan is $50 instead of $60. So if anyone has had verizon for a while ( like 2 years or longer) , ask for it. Everything is the same.

If you leave ATT before the end of your contract, you have to pay that off, right?

Something is not adding up here.

Yes and as I stated in another thread, I would sell my Nexus 5 to cover their ETF... LOL, I don't understand why this is so hard to comprehend for you.

I think this is a good offering by Verizon, butt the $15/1GB overage data charge is way too much, IMHO. The overage charge shouldn't be any more than $10. For me personally I won't switch to Verizon again until they improve their coverage in the Philly market. There simply aren't enough towers to support the amount of customers on their network in this area. My trial with them ended last month when I still couldn't get any data speeds grater than 9Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up. Also, here in my house Verizon only gave me 1X and 3G. There were a few other areas that had the same thing. Verizon is a good carrier when you are in a area that has good LTE coverage. Right now, AT&T just works better for me where I live and travel and this plan isn't worth giving up my unlimited data as well as discounted voice and unlimited text plan for.

I've read on another forum that it is not covered. However, when I called the store about this question earlier today, the store employee said I could use my 22% employer discount with this plan. I find this a little odd, though, since they weren't allowing employee discounts on the other single line plan.

The only other caveat is that this new pricing is only a limited time offer.

I hope it lasts until the iPhone 6 gets released because I am waiting to switch to Verizon until it comes out. This is a pretty good deal for those of us that don't use a ton of data.

Pretty sure that sales rep is either uninformed or simply lying to you. Many a forum members on both Slickdeals and HowardForums who have had this plan for awhile as loyalty customers say otherwise.

I've read on other forums that the discount wouldn't apply too. I was thinking the same thing that the rep. just wanted to get me in the store and signed up on the plan. It doesn't make sense that he would say the discount would apply to this new plan but didn't on the older single line plan. Some carrier reps just need better training I guess.

I called my local store. The rep says it is supposed to go until Sept 30!!!

I'm currently with AT&T and paying $80/mo for unlimited talk/text w/ 2GB of Data and was pretty happy with it until I saw Verizon is now offering a 2GB single line plan for $65/mo! Great move by Verizon that I will be taking advantage of come September!

The added bonus is that it will allow me to hop into an iPhone 6 instead of having to shell out $649+ all at once which I wasn't going to do. :)

Don't forget that Verizon doesn't currently offer data use while on a phone call. That may or may not be something that affects you. I like AT&T a lot for that reason. I use data while on my iPhone quite a lot.

Yeah, I'm definitely leaning that way!

----------

99% of people won't even notice a difference in the speed at 10Mbps vs 25Mbps+... honestly most phones will do everything with very little difference in performance at 3-5Mbps.

Most people? Yes I agree. I have unlimited data and the unlimited LTE tethering plan with Verizon... I definitely notice the fast speeds

They do on WiFi which I'm on 90% of the time :)

That is fine if you are making a call and happen to be on WiFi, but I'll bet most people that are out are not on WiFi when making calls and therefore aren't able to Talk and use data at the same time.

There is no $40 device fee on this plan! I know, I wondered the same thing. It appears to legitimately be a flat fee of $65/mo + Edge if you'd choose to go that route.

That is awesome, because I was looking at upgrade options and they were going to offer 3gb of data at the 2gb price, but it would include the extra device fee so it would be around $80 something by the time it's done. And even with my work discount, which is like 19%, it wouldn't be worth it. This new plan may be because I'm on Wifi a lot and don't often hit over 2gb.

That is always the use case right? Nobody is ever on wifi while making or receiving a call.

I'm pretty sure I saw the word "if" in there somewhere. :)

Being able to talk and access the internet while on cellular is a huge deal for me. For some, it's a job-related necessity. That's one big reason I stay with AT&T.

That's generally the case with retention/saver/loyalty type of plans, but now this one is somewhat different than that (even though still a limited time offer one), so perhaps things might apply differently when it comes to it.

Is it over?
Is what over?

I have my ipad with me, if I need to talk and surf at the same time. It's been a while, since I actually did that.

So to me, it's not a deal breaker..not even a consideration. I understand some people, may find that important; I don't.

Go contract. The measly $10 per month savings isn't worth it, particularly not if you have to pay installment for the phone.

Subsidy = ($650 - $200) / 24 = $18.75/mo

2 year contract
$200 + ($65 * 24) = $1,760

EDGE
($55 * 24) + ($32.50 * 20) = $1,970

Don't forget the $30 "setup" fee. It is waived for the Edge plan.
