But Win10 isn't supported yet, so it is YOUR problem and 100% YOUR responsibility.
No, it is not only my problem, it is a problem for anyone who uses bootcamp and Windows 10. If anone does then they might find it interesting to know that the cause of VSS errors is the AppleHFS.sys driver and the workaround is to disable it.

Come on. Apple only supports latest systems for latest OS'es to force customers into new hardware, even when there is zero technical reason for it. This is lousy. I hope Apple will feel this soon when current and previous customers buy high quality native windows systems again because there are available now. This has been different a few years ago.

As of today, nothing is so good at Apple that you must have it. This is over already.

But Windows 10 isn't supported by Apple, so if you or someone else do it it is your responsibility alone. If it breaks your 1day old machine, you and you only are the one paying.

If it isn't supported by Apple, why do it? Assume your responsibility.

Can you state hard core facts? Give me one example. Also, one example of Apple forcing costumers into new hardware. And supporting only latest systems for latest OSes.

And no, the Windows systems are the same they have always been, and Apple keeps selling more and more Macs, so it isn't over. In fact, with the latest news in enterprise, more and more universities using and supporting macs, we are more at the beginning. Heck, Windows PC's ASP keep going down and down, because no one is interested in those "nice" systems, unless they are a Mac.

What I just can't understand is how, despite being factually wrong, you just can't bring yourself to admit that it was a mistake to buy a Mac, because you aren't able/don't want to learn anything about a new platform, despite how easy it is, and are too lazy to even bother reading what is and what isn't supported. Sell your Mac, buy a nice Dell, and be happy with it. But be responsible with it as well, and only do what is supported.

I think we a minority though running a different OS. I bought a MacBook pro as I like the look of the hardware. I mildly dislike OSX - not a lot but it is a bit basic for me and doesn't run the programs I want. I ran Arch for a while (Retina support was too poor so I gave up) and now I'm running windows 10 which I (currently) like.

If there is a decent looking Windows laptop I must have missed it.

The moment you run an unsupported OS, it is your responsibility alone. You aren't even allowed to complain and expect help from Apple. That's the deal.

It is clearly stated that Bootcamp's support is at win8.1.

Updating to 10 without Apple's support, and actually have the nerve to complain about something, just says everything that needs to be said about the person in question, regarding (lack of) responsibility, knowledge and so on.

The Mac is yours, it is your run to use it as you please. Heck, If someone wants to use it for 100% Windows, it's their right, but they must do what is supported or don't even bother complaining.

So you think I am the only person in the world to upgrade a bootcamp partition? I'm not complaining - I'm only stating that if you do upgrage you need to swap the Apple HFS driver for this one suggested by @macenied which works fine.

I did in fact report it to apple in October but it is of course up to them if and when they decide to fix it (or not). If there is a workaround (which there is) then that is all that is required for people like me who like running a different OS.

I am a former MCSE ( Microsoft Certified System Engineer ), however I did not recertify for some time. I did not need due to different responsibilities. But you can believe that I know what I'm talking about.

Just tell me one reason why Apple never supported Windows 8/8.1 on the MBP 7.1. Only one technical reason. This MBP was available mid 2010. If you can't, this is the answer. I'd have many more examples. BTW, no problem with responsibility here.

If someone buys an Apple and needs to run Windows on it, regardless if he / she wants to use OSX or not, the Macs are one of the worst systems you can buy. Apple should stop to advertise Windows compatibility completely or support it in a professional way.

I'm running 10 on a 2006 Core 2 Duo MBP. It works fine. It is annoying to install (as Apple try to stop you by making it difficult) but bootcamp 4.1 drivers work and everything is great.

Windows 10 runs far faster than Snow Leopard (which is the last OSX version I can install).

To answer your question, it is to force hardware upgrades on people who aren't too technical as you probably know.

Are you serious? Complaining that Apple might have chosen to not support a particular windows version on a particular model and then extrapolate that they force you into upgrades and all of that yadda yadda?

Clearly you were thinking about Windows all along. You weren't forced to buy your machine. Apple isn't forced to support Windows. Apple supported what they said they would support.

Heck, HP never made drivers for my previous PC above Windows7.

I just can't believe you... Actually seeing all of this doom for Apple because they didn't support a particular windows version.

Guess what? Don't lose time. Clearly Macs aren't for you and you failed tremendously when you bought one.

Format it with OS X, sell it, and buy a nice Windows machine. Like those amazing Samsung that have windows update disabled. Or those Lenovo with the great mal ware pre-installed.

Or learn how to use OSX.

Lots of words. The technical reason please ...

In case you have no answer, it's ok. There is no reason other than marketing.

The way i see it, it's in apples interest to make this painful and protracted in hope you don't run windows.
It also helps apple with all the claims around adoption rates for OS X on release etc etc.

It's painful, yes. But they do much more in the background. If you have an optical drive you cannot boot from USB sticks. Why ??? Unbelievable. You can run your SSD on OSX with 3GB SATA speed but on the same system with 1.5GB only using Windows ( this is a driver issue ). You have OSX Trim support for Apple SSD's but not for 3rd party SSD's. The list is long and it's getting rediculous.

Apple seems to think that consomers are uninformed and that it is the best idea since sliced bread just to buy the next Apple. Some consumers may not agree ...

But only the fanboys agree with that direction... apples current approach/attitudes towards customers stinks!

I have a MacBook from 2008 that happily runs Yosemite and will be supported by El Capitan. Same for my 2009 Mac Mini. Six and seven year old hardware running the latest OS'es without any issues.

No they don't! You are talking about running WINDOWS on a Mac. Apple offers a way of doing this, but they don't have to. If you want to use Windows, then buy a Windows machine. I really don't understand why you keep going on about this.

If Apple suddenly stopped updating Boot Camp and no longer supported installing Windows on a Mac, it would have ZERO impact on sales. The VAST majority of people who buy a Mac don't buy it to run Windows.

My Early-2011 MBP will support El Cap and future OS X releases for years to come.

They missed it - and did catch up. BootCamp 6 for W10 support has been released today.

Read the thread. Obsolete question. Continue to live in your Apple world as long as you live. It works for you. Not so good for others. Don't care & good luck. Play Bingo.

I will. And I will continue to benefit from great customer support, and my MBP will support OS X for years to come.

Apple does not happily market the fact that Windows can run on their hardware. You have to dig a bit deeper to find out about it.

That's the point the customer service sucks these days, the eco system is a complete lock-in which needs to be sorted out as it stops people from leaving (anti trust anyone?) the software quality is frankly crappy, the lack of innovation is painful. apple are all about shovelling more crap down the consumers throat like stupid pointless watches, or music at the expense of the artists (thankfully TS put a stop to that).

What Apple could achieve quite good so far is to force customers into buying new products due to lack of support of older hardware and short lifecycles. What they overlook with this strategy is that the new device may not be Apple branded anymore. The products are no more "hip", even not for kids, their last fanboy/fangirl community they could rely on. Customers mature. A whatever "ecosystem" is not needed, functionality, connectivity and compatibility is. Classic shoot into the foot.

Jobs is missing.

How are you forced to stay? If you want to leave the Eco system then leave it. You are not being tied down.

I am not tied into the system and I will leave it. It may take a while until I replaced my $10000 Apple crap by other hardware but it will happen, on a need to do basis. Until then I will show up in their statistics as a happy OSX/ iOS user.

Edited this posting on my iPad 5+ times. Even Wifi does not work. How long already ? 3+ years ?
