Watching the keynote I really wanted gold. After I got back from the Apple store with the Max I wasn't sure if I liked it or should I be conservative and go back to space grey. I do like the way it "shimmers" in the light and fingerprints aren't too bad, well don't show as much as the SG. Seeing it alongside the silver and SG I'm glad I went for gold I. It's this years iPhone colour, last year it was all about the silver which doesn't do anything for me. If you're going to slap on a non-clear case then the iPhone colour doesn't matter. I have a cheap clear case from eBay which isn't the best but thinking of getting a UAG plasma in ICE.

I'm still liking the frame and its contrast with the black screen, not quite so much the back. I stopped by the Apple Store today to look at AW4 SS. I have a black SS 44 on order, but there was a gold available in store.

I ended up not buying the gold watch. It matches the phone well, and looks good, but it's still too flashy for me. I'd rather my watch be a tad more discreet when I'm out and about. Sticking to the black.

I have had the XS in gold for a few days. My thoughts:

The band is simply stunning. Someone on Twitter called it 'deep gold'. I agree. Very bronzy, coppery. Not ostentatious. Understated and classy are the best words I can think of.

The powder-coated band is way better feeling than my previous silver X. That was very slippery, and had scratches literally all over it after a few months- even though I kept it in a case all the time. This one seems more durable and I like the feel of it. YMMV.

Regarding 'guy colors', that's dumb. Buy whatever color you like. You're paying for it, who cares what anyone else thinks.

All that said, the back is causing me to consider exchanging it for a SG model. The color of it is all over the place. As others have said, it goes from shiny gold, to creamy white, to what I've taken to calling 'maple'. That's all fine. I like all of those colors. However, the other color it looks like, and the one it looks like to me most often, is pink. Not blush, or copper but accidentally-washed-a-red-shirt-in-white-laundry pink. Strawberry pink? I don't know exactly, but it's not a color that I like. If you like that color, you'll like this phone. If not, just a warning. For me this color is the one I see 90% of the time.

That's my $0.02 after two days.

Always get a dbrand skin on the back to cover it up and leave the sides exposed. Change it to black and man that may look sharp. Sadly, if I wanted too, I can't exchange mine. None in stock in any color now. So, for me, I will learn to love it. I do still like it, but reading everyones comments makes me wonder if I should have gone to white or black. But like I mentioned, I may do the dbrand skin to cover the back.

I am considering that as well.

I was stuck between silver or gold. Never considered the black because my brother’s iPhone X was black and he kept it in a semi clear case the entire time. However when I removed the case to check it out the whole back side is so smudged with particles that got in between the case. His band were also scratched, even though it’s not to the point where you can see the raw steel but you can definitely feel the roughness. The phone felt like it just came back from the war. Finger prints also show way too easily on the black.

I decided to go gold because the copperish band looked great with black front and the back is gorgeous. As long the band doesn’t get scratched like my brother’s space gray then we are good.

I'd do it. Matte black or matrix. They have a picture of it with the gold.

I did the Gold color back when it first came out for the 5S, then again for the iPhone 6. So I went to the store to go see the gold Max phone in person, possibly to return my Space Gray one. I saw too much pink in it and decided I'll stick with my Space Gray Max.

This may have been asked before but I couldn’t find it. If I wanted to exchange it for a different color but I did the IPhone Upgrade Program, will they have to go through the whole process of returning it and reapplying for a new loan or will they just exchange the color?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for this. I am supposed to get my gold phone on Wednesday. I will probably return it unopened and just skip this one and keep using my flat black 7+.

I don’t want a pink phone.

Just returned my gold XS Max after having it for a few days due to it being pink under certain lighting.

The gold side band was bad too. Not shiny or anything, just dull and lame.

Just exchanged for a Silver XS Max today. So much better.

I regret not getting gold. Maybe once they have the 256 in stock at the Apple store I’ll return my silver for it.

I’m thinking of returning my silver for a space gray. Are we able to do that without a restocking fee?

How was the exchange process? Did you buy at apple store? Did they charge you for the exchange?

I pre-ordered online from Apple for delivery, but swapped it out at the Apple Store.

It was easy. They just returned it, put the balance on a gift card, then used that gift card to buy the new phone. There was no charge.

I bought it SIM unlocked at full price, so it may be different depending on purchase method.
