I am seriously considering selling off my current unibody MacBook and replacing it with a 13'' MacBook Pro. At first I didn't care, but the improvements made to the display are quite nice, and having FireWire 800 could be useful, as I have a few external hard drives that would benefit from a FireWire connection, as opposed to USB.

What changing a CE MB for a cheap everyone can get one MBP!??

nahh! you have to be crazy!!, i would never change my CE :D
LOL!

i initially thought about it but then thought:

~ 2.33 vs 2.0 isnt going to be worth the upgrade.
~ same HDD/RAM
~ same graphics
~ i dont use firewire
~ screen doesnt bother me
~ ive never come across the situation where i have been left needing more battery time

so based on those conclusions it would be a waste of time for me to upgrade. These new machines are still excellent but not worth the upgrade cost for me.

money is not the issue. whenever my computer fails, my apple store geniuses are to lazy to do repairs, so they just replace my computer. my current unibody 2.4 macbook is a reincarnation of a 2008 white macbook i purchased for school. trust me, even if something as minor as an airport card fails, those guys will offer me a replacement in a heartbeat. i love my apple store. :p

The old uMBs are now the only apple laptops to NOT have FW in years and years. Do you think this will affect the resale price?

i guess i just joined your gang. I dont know how collectable the computer will be though, just special.

i love mine to bits and thats all that matters and when the time comes to upgrade it i will, but as long as a desktop is also practical to me i think i will still have my limited edition macbook. There's no sense forking out megabucks for a grunty laptop when you can spend little on a desktop, have the same or more power and then you dont feel as guilty when upgrading it just to keep up with technology

I'm keepin' my 13" MB for a while. It's almost the same as the new 13" MBP (2.4GHz and 4GB).

No. It would be insane for me to sell off my two month old laptop for an SD card slot I wouldn't use and FW well... I bought the uni MB, why would I need FW ? that would make the initial purchase insane and finally extra battery life I wouldn't notice either.

i dunno why they reckon its a 'collectors edition' i prefer to call it a limited edition because its probably the shortest lived apple product line, the aluminium macbook (without pro written beside it).

I think they should have left it as a non-pro but having pro written there does make it sound better, that is a definite. im not saying its not suitable for a professional, it definetely is but the pro name should be there to upsell to the 15" and 17" models

You forgot the SD card slot and (the biggie, IMO), the improved battery.

I'm tempted to upgrade, but I just can't afford to right now. :(

I did, just for you. I feel special now. Yay!
Actually, I feel even more special having realized that my 2.0's the only aluminium laptop apple makes without a backlit keyboard.

That is incorrect. My 12" Powerbook was aluminium, and it didn't have a backlit keyboard either. Sorry to burst your bubble. :D
