I have the Collectors Edition too, and will use it until it stops working (never, I think). Can I plz be a part of the club nao? :)

I'm tempted to replace my 12" PB with a machine that finally meets all the things I loved about it (except maybe the glossy display). Unfortunately I bought a last gen 15" MBP end of last year because i had to keep the FW. No I have an aging 12" PB and a large but wonderful 15" MBP vs. a single super portable and perfect for my needs 13" MBP.

UGH/yaay. :D

(yes, interesting situation.)

Not at all. My MacBook works beautifully, and I'm very pleased with it. I have no need to always have the latest and greatest machine, nor am I trying to be one of the "cool kids". I'm a grown man who doesn't go through buyers' remorse. If I'd needed Firewire, or a backlit keyboard, or the word 'Pro' on the screen, I'd have bought a machine that met those requirements the first time.

i just put mine up for sale, if i get a good price, will let go of it. need some cash now, but will be back with the new ones sometime later.

Is apple going to continue to manufacture the removable batteries for our limited editions? Or will they have enough in stores etc. for those that need replacing?

I'm the type of person prone to wanting the newest/best, so, yeah, I'd like to have the 13" MBP. but i know it would be stupid to spend my money on this upgrade when there are far more reasonable and necessary things to spend my money on.

Listening to WWDC, I was pretty upset at first, but I bought it 3 weeks ago, and I realized I'm fine with this one. I don't use firewire, my camera uses an xD card (stupid camera, but it was a nice gift :)), the no backlight keyboard was a mistake on my part. I didn't want to pay for the 2.4 because all I needed from that was the keyboard. Really the only thing I want is the longer battery life as I will be in classes for 5 hours mwf and 3-4 tth, but if I need to I can get another battery. Thats something you can't do with the new one.

I would love to considering I just got mine not too long ago but its not worth the extra money/hassle trying to sell my MacBook. Besides, I bought this MacBook for basic computing... not as my main computer. I have a custom built desktop that does everything I need.... honestly.... overpowered because I built it for gaming but I no longer play video games.

If I just had money laying around that I had no better use for then sure, but this computer will serve me good for at least a few years.

Count me in for the new one. I'm lucky to have sold my less than year old UMB 2.0 for $1000. I know, I know. I lost a few bucks (bought it originally for $1249), but I can consider the extra bucks an upgrade to the former top of the line UMB (albeit a costly upgrade...hehehe)

This is what I am thinking also, nothing really to upgrade for not for me at least.

I like the idea of the battery the most. You do get 4GB of ram as well. I want to sell mine, but only if I could lose less than $200 on the sale. Otherwise its not worth it to me especially with the chance of dead pixels, etc.

Soon enough there will be something that blows all current models out of the water. It always happens. Imagine buying a new one now and next year they put out a quad-core laptop or something like that.

I feel like the quad core laptop is coming sooner than later too :D

CrackBookPro:cool:

I got the 13" uMB last Saturday. I will be bringing it back to Best Buy as I ordered the new 13" MBP from Apple yesterday.

I hate to flip-flop on stuff, but I did some serious thinking about my purchase.

-I've had my MacBook for 3 days now and I love it. Already upgraded it to a 320GB 7200RPM drive, and will get 4GB of RAM for it soon.
-I don't look at the keys when typing, so what good will backlit keys do for me?
-I don't make money with photos/video, so a "better" screen dosn't mean anything.
-I'm never on battery power for more then 1-2 hours, so that's a moot point for me as well.
-Anything processor intensive or time consuming like encoding/muxing/downloading/etc I can offload to my Windows Home Server box with an overclocked Q9400. With remote desktop, it's almost like sitting at the machine.

Now, I got mine at Best Buy, and they just lowered the price from 1299 to 1099, so I went in and got the difference credited back to my card. Plus, putting it on my Best Buy card got me 18 months of no interest which is a pretty good deal IMO. After all is said and done, I'm happy with my purchase, and if Best Buy gets the new models in in the next couple weeks, maybe I'll do an exchange, but if not, oh well. :)

Felt good to type all that. :p

i initially thought about it but then thought:

~ 2.33 vs 2.0 isnt going to be worth the upgrade.
~ same HDD/RAM
~ same graphics
~ i dont use firewire
~ screen doesnt bother me
~ ive never come across the situation where i have been left needing more battery time

so based on those conclusions it would be a waste of time for me to upgrade. These new machines are still excellent but not worth the upgrade cost for me.

Well, for me it was a no-brainer. I took my MacBook back to aafes today and although laptop less my iPod touch will get me through for now. The FireWire will be a blessed feature for my huge daily file transfers and the sd card is something I use quite frequently freeing up needed USBs. The added Ethernet port is welcomed as well for direct connection when at home for stability and saving me the need to use an additional dongle. Last but not least the added battery is something I need as the battery life now is too short for my tastes.

Eh I already spent the money and time to get an Invisible Shield full-body skin, moshi clearguard (keyboard cover), and Speck SeeTHRU Satin hardcase for my 2.4GHz uMB so upgrading to the new 13" MBP would be a pain (gotta buy all that stuff for the new model and apply it again). I don't use FW and i can live with no built-in SD card reader so I'm happy for now :).

Of course I have, and I still am simply to satisfy my need to have the latest and greatest. But I don't use SD cards, I've never used FireWire. The only thing that entices me is the new battery and location changes between the USB and MiniDP. The speed bump is far to little to notice, and those two I mentioned aren't worth the ~$500. I'll stick with my 2.4 unibody MacBook for another year.

I went ahead and bought one of the newer 13" MBPs and I'm now looking for a buyer for my current MB. I could use the SD card quite a bit as I think it's silly to have such an expensive notebook without one when my girlfriend's crappy HP has several kinds of media ports. A little embarrassing to say the least but she loves my laptop way more.

Ah well, I should be getting my new one on Friday at the latest.

This is exactly how I see the whole situation too. No point in upgrading as I was (and still am) over the moon with my Unibody 2.4GHz I got a month ago. No regrets.

Looking at the new case the kensington lock slot being on the right next to the superdrive would be a real pain for me.

Good grief...this Limited/Collectors Edition is nothing more than just a nice name for a machine Apple felt was useless to expand upon.

With a name like that, you people are going to make the general, uneducated public think that these machines are rare and valuable when in reality they are outdated machines with no FW or SD card ports. If they fill all your needs then that's fine but don't give them a name like that. I may as well call my Macbook a collectors edition as it's a Whitebook at 2.4Ghz.
