I always prefer to stay at home for Christmas. We've been having Christmas at home since I was a little kid and I don't like traditions to change :)

That said, we will be spending New Year's at our vacation home at Lake Tahoe. With the low snowfall, probably can't expect much skiing or snowboarding, but it's still nice to be up there.

Where are you? :)

Not at home.

And - for now - not returning there for another few weeks yet.

I'll grant that Christmas decorations in a climate that is anything but Christmassy is a little incongruous, but it is not the first - or second - or third - Christmas I have spent away from home, although it will be the first time I have done so in a number of years.

it's my first "long" trip on the bike and I am following my kids to the destination, both my kids are driving and this will also be their first trip this far behind the wheel

Sounds like fun. Don't know how much time you spend in AZ or what area you will be in, but if you have chance take a ride up the 17 into Prescott or Sedona. Great way to spend some time on the bike. Beautiful areas. Lot's of bikers on the road if you run into a mechanical issue and need assistance. Whiskey Row in Prescott is a popular destination for the two wheeled crowd.

Heading from Baltimore to family in Atlanta, well 'Hotlanta'. It should be warmer than home, which is a one of the reasons to go down there.

I have multiple XMas trips planned:

- In the morning, from my bed to my patio with my hot chocolate
- In the afternoon, back to my bed for a nap
- At night, to the kitchen, to pick up a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and a corkscrew
- ... back to my bed

Will be taking the scenic routes.

Remember to stop for food and rest on these journeys.

And check out this thread for a summary of equipment to take. Be prepared.

That I am! What gave it away or was it a lucky guess? Have you been stationed at Mildenhall?
My son was based there for 3 years (around 2005). We visited often, loved the area, in fact love most of the UK. I said to myself USAF stationed in The UK and... took a wild guess. ;)

I am retired. I was a pilot in the USN (1979-86). My overseas time (land based) was based in the western Pacific, ranged from the North Pacific to Indian Ocean, associated areas, in Guam, Japan, Philippines, and others.

The chair force doesn't have many places left in the UK
Aside from Mildenhall and Lakenheath we don't. There might be 1 or 2 smaller bases but I am not certain. There are rumors Mildenhall is closing and the refueling aircraft are going to Ramstein and the special ops aircraft are going to Spangdahlem in 2023 or 2024.

It isn't terrible. I have been here since January but I have also been deployed for about 6 of those months so I haven't had a chance to check out some of the places here.
What did your son do at Mildenhall? Thank you for your service! What did you fly in the Navy? How did you like Japan? I actually tried to go to Kadina in Japan instead of Mildenhall. Perhaps next time!

Thanks, back at ya! :) Answered in a private conversation.

Well despite our plans my family and me haven’t travelled anywhere. Our friend let her daughter play with my eldest daughter three days before Christmas and didn’t tell us she had a stomach bug. Both my daughters and my wife have had sickness and diarrhoea since Christmas morning. It hasn’t got me yet but has completely ruined our Christmas.

I can’t wait to return to work and get the next year out the way so I can see all my family again next Christmas.

NYC baby!

We had a __blast__ over the past week! Some old traditions, new fun, shows, eating, drinking, music, shops, celebrated our "at home" Christmas this morning (left main gifts for the little person here).

Taking the rest of the week off :)
