Updated, no problems what so ever.

2.0 is pretty sweet. I think I'm almost as excited as I was when I first got my phone. The remote makes the iPhone the coolest thing I have ever owned. I use 3 airports with airtunes and this just made me the happiest person I know. Pandora is another free app. I downloaded and it is pretty nice as well, works great on WiFi, haven't tried it for more than a song on Edge, not to bad though. Super Monkey Ball is fun as well, I can see myself getting pretty good at it on a long plane trip.

Many requested additional video's, here they are:

Part 1:

I downloaded the 2.0 software this morning and installed apps. Lots of fun!!! Success Story from the front page article.

First go into Safari Prefs and uncheck "Open "safe" files after downloading" under the General Tab.

Next Download. (From: https://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/10/...ailable-early/)

Next right click downloaded folder and go to "get info" - Or - Just rename the folder by deleting the ".zip" from the name. So that it's an .ispw.

Next go in iTunes. You want to click Restore while holding the "option/alt" key.
And click the folder you downloaded and changed the name.

That should do it! That's all I did.

My itunes still says my current (1.4) version is the latest version and doesn't bring up 2.0. Is anyone else having this problem?

3. Where the hell is the official release!!! I figured I'd wait til I get out of work to do the upgrade, and I assumed that most likely by then itd just be officially released anyway. That NYTimes article claims Jobs said it's coming today....think that was legit?

Patience. Apple will likely release it late tonight when Europe hits 8am Friday. Officially, there are no 1st generation iPhones in Australia since Apple never sold them there. They didn't sell them in Asia either. Germany is probably the first country that officially had the original, so the new firmware will likely go online when it is time for them to buy the 3G.

And on the the 8th day God said ....

let there be 2.0. When he saw what he created he was happy.:)

Before someone with a jailbroken phone/touch updates, SFTP into your phone and copy a few applications from Installer to your computer. Then drag the folder into the "Applications" section of Itunes. Upgrade to 2.0 and see if the applications can be added.

Mine show up in "Applications" (without icons - see photo) but I don't feel like upgrading to 2.0 because I love Orb and Mobile Scrobbler and others.

Is it possible to copy the "Installer.app" ???

Just installed mine successfully. There are some neat free apps so far (weather, news stuff, etc)

The one app that I was looking forward to (embarrassingly), was the AIM application.... and I'm quite disappointed so far, just with it's connection. It seems to disconnect after X amount of inactivity time... which is lame. They really need to contact the Danger crew and see how they made their AIM app on the Sidekick. lol.

So besides AIM, which I hope they fix, I'm pleased so far.

So Sweet

Version 2 is pretty sweeet! Everything runs very smooth. They tuned-up the locate me feature, it's so accurate. It locate me and it zoom-in to my location. That is so cool.

how are u guys geting the apps. on your phones?

i'm assuming you don't know that a build of 2.0 is available to the public.

you just buy it from the appstore and it downloads to your phone. when you plug in to your computer, it syncs into itunes.

Maybe i'm not public cause it's not available to me. I guess i'll continue to wait. I also don't see where to buy it in the app store.

By public, he meant that the 2.0 firmware was online on one of Apple's servers and could be downloaded through an internet browser. Apple never/still hasn't pushed the update. Once you download the firmware you have to manually install it using iTunes.

The buying in the App Store part was referring to how you get applications onto your phone once you have the 2.0 firmware up and running.

Download iTunes 7.7 from Apple's website.

Download the 2.0 firmware update from the link provided earlier using Safari, Firefox or whatever.

Run iTunes 7.7, and manually "restore" the 2.0 firmware (Shift + Click on Restore (for windows) and it will prompt you for a location to load the file).

Basically follow directions here:

https://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/10/iphone-2-0-firmware-5a347-available-early/

Probably moot at this point though.

Just finished installing 2.0 and so far, its all working just fine.

Love the new calendar on it - shows the appointments with a color dot or background (depending on if in month or day view) which correspond to the colors on the Mac's iCal.

The contacts list has a search feature, which is nice. And I like how the calculator works (rotate to widescreen for scientific calculator!).

I am now running the 2.0 firmware:D

I had a jailbroken/unlocked phone with O2 SIM.

Restored to virgin 1.1.4.

Activated iPhone with iTunes account.

Updated to 2.0.

Activated again with iTunes account.

And now playing with the App store.

Very happy.
