I've done the manual upgrade and all went swimmingly. I've downloaded and sync'd about a dozen applications including Monkey Ball, Bejeweled 2, and Trism.

So far, I'm very happy with the update. MobileMe is still not up for me. Several of the apps that I downloaded have shown their "location awareness" with a prompt asking if I'd like them to know where I am. All have worked well so far, even without the GPS and just the triangulation.

Concerns I had about Monkey Ball's playability due to problems with tilting and viewing angle seem to have been unfounded.

I'm actually thinking now about holding off on the 3G and just enjoying this functionality, though I probably won't be able to.

I had a 1.1.4 16gb iphone that i used ziphone on, used the unlock all feature in ziphone months back, i have a o2 contract but NOT iphone one and basically i ran the download installed 2.0 fine, went through the activation in itunes etc, by logging in using my email/password from itunes account and it come up 'activated iphone'. Then restored all contacts/music etc from back up file.

Working like a charm, as i say i am on a o2 contract but not iphone so so far so good .......

Yes. I hit the sync button and contacts from my mail app got loaded onto the phone. Everything else is like the phone is brand new.

What are you missing? Did you have all of whatever is gone on your computer before you upgraded?

Yes, I also have the address book. I'm guessing it is designed to just make it easier to get to your contacts without having to two-click through the phone.

Working great. Just got used to all the nice apps being free on a jailbroken phone, now I have to pay for them... :(

how do I update it!!

i've downloaded itunes 7.7 and the link in the front and still nothing please help me

Wait

i've downloaded itunes 7.7 and the link in the front and still nothing please help me

Wait until tomorrow when it's more easily available. If you have to ask questions like this, you probably shouldn't be messing with it.

Yea I had everything on my computer before I did the upgrade. I synced my phone with iTunes before I did the upgrade.

Every time I sync, it doesnt put all my info back on.

Should I do a restore and see what that does?

Restore , and when it asks (after the restore of 2.0 firmware) to restore as a backup of "enter name of iphone here" choose the one thats the latest.

Also upgraded from 1.1.4 firmware to 2.0 and no problems (using a legit phone). May try with a jailbroken unlocked phone soon.

So I see a post in this forum that says "Downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4":

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/515929/

then inside someone gives this link on how to do it:

http://sleepers.net/news/?page_id=216

And in that link it says:

"Here are the steps for a successful 2.0 to 1.1.4 downgrade for those of you that updated to 2.0 and realized what a mistake it was."

Can anyone explain this? Why would that say "what a mistake it was". Are there going to be problems when the real one comes out? Are people running into problems now? I was going to go home from work in an hour and upgrade because I'm WAY sick of waiting....but now I'm thinking maybe I shouldnt....

I think he's referring to the ones who jailbreak their iphone then upgrade to 2.0 and consequently loosing their stuff

Works like a charm. It is awesome. thanks to whoever figured out how to upgrade early.

Updated successfully from 1.1.4 to 2.0, synched the iphone with a back-up which I did just before the update. Everything works fine except Mail. I use gmail (IMAP), when I open the mail program it crashes and returns to the home screen.

I tried deleting the account in settings and re-entering the details, but it doesn't delete the account, nor does it allow me to add a new account or turn off the Gmail account. Correction it lets me fill in the details, click the buttons etc, but with no results. I've tried turning off the Push settings. Nothing works. I also tried syncing selected mail accounts in iTunes but get the attached error message.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I had this. Ended up reinstalling and instead of letting itunes recover the backup, start with a new iphone - that fixed it.

I've seen this before with firmware upgrades.. when itunes restores the backup it sometimes isn't quite compatible and breaks stuff.

1. Anyone confirm if it's the final version of 2.0?

2. If we upgrade - and they release a slightly newer version of 2.0 officially - will our phones assume that they are already 2.0 and not think it needs to update to the official release? Or do you think we'll be able to upgrade if its different with no probs?

3. Where the hell is the official release!!! I figured I'd wait til I get out of work to do the upgrade, and I assumed that most likely by then itd just be officially released anyway. That NYTimes article claims Jobs said it's coming today....think that was legit?

I'm in precisely the same position.

I did the update and it seemed to go okay. However, EDGE is now unbearably slow with e-mail, and web pages either load fine or they don't load at all (it wasn't that way on 1.1.4) and I have a new icon occasionally where EDGE would normally be...a big dot.

I did a network reset and it didn't help. I'm doing a complete wipe right now, but does anyone have any idea what the dot is?

Thanks,
Ed

Roaming, I believe.

I have an iPod Touch, but I'm assuming the update process will operate the same as on the iPhone. Now I see something about iTunes offering a one time "Media Backup." The songs in my library aren't quite as clean as the are on my iPod, meaning a lot of my album names, art, etc. is better on my iPod, because I don't sync my music, I do it manually. I don't even think all my iPods songs are on my iTunes library. When I update tomorrow, will there be an option for me to backup all my music and videos from my iPod, and then load the backup when installation is complete (i dont know if this is what media backup means)? Or will I be forced to erase everything and sync with my library?

it's odd, now when i press the locate me button on maps it pinpoints my street. when i did the same thing a few days ago, and whenever i've done it before the 2.0 update, it's placed me at the other end of town! i wonder if this update has improved the triangulation somehow.

like some others i don't think i'll bother with 3G now. if i was to upgrade, the chances are there would be another iphone announced within that 18 month period, so i could end up upgrading mid contract again. i'm very happy with the 2.0 software, and have just had my handset replaced due to a hardware issue so it's in great condition. all in all i'm very pleased!

TOTAL success here... it's really fantastic. I'm TOTALLY enjoying Remote Control of my Airtunes!!! It's like I got a new cool techie device for FREE! DO keep in mind you MUST be running iTunes 7.7 to update to 2.0.

Truly, after dinking around with the new features, I've decided to skip the 3G iPhone. The 3G would be nice, GPS would be cool from a gadgety standpoint (don't have much use for GPS, have it in my car).... but I think it's really all about the 2.0 software. I'm loving it!! :D
